It's super handy, but it doesn't let you go reverse (to my knowledge) so I turned it off haha.

Full RGB range seems to make colors really pop for me in comparison to Wii U. The increase and resolution and texture filtering clear up a lot of the muddiness as well. Is much better looking all things considered.

Pixel count too if you're talking docked mode. Like more than twice the definition, which will look dramatically sharper and more detailed.
And AF does a lot for racing games because of the low camera angle on the track.
But it speaks well to what the Wii-U could accomplish at the time too.
Yeah I've been feeling this too, like brake drifting doesn't slow you down as much or something. Strange.

Tons of the players online have been playing these tracks for years, so that makes sense if you're just now playing MK8
Holy cow this game is GOOD! Controls are amazing and the controls are so responsive. Just wish they would give you the option of reassigning the item button to ZL instead of the L button.
I'm also pretty disappointed that you can't form a party with an online friend and jump into a random lobby. The code system seems extremely archaic for tournaments and it's a pain to play with friends online if you don't want to play with the CPU and fill the remainder of slots with human opponents.

Switch is 1080p docked and has better texture filtering due to increased resolution but according to DF's it's likely the same setting. Just clearer naturally.
Also I cannot get over how gorgeous this game is in handheld mode. This is the most beautiful handheld game ever made, and it's running at 60fps. It's stunning.

I've always been bad at Mario Kart (since SMK), but since my friends sucked at it, too, it was still incredible fun for us.

I saw earlier, but wasn't it something you could do in MK8 on the Wii U?
They probably adjusted it a little bit because of 200cc and the item re-balancing
200cc feels like you lose control sometimes, which I guess can't be fixed without re-designing every course.

You can't dodge them, if you're in first you need to try and make sure you have a shell or banana or horn to hand. A bomb works as well too, I think. If you only have a coin then you're out of luck. In first place getting a double item box is often more important than taking the ostensibly quicker route since a double item box in first place will usually give you a coin plus a defensive item, which is crucial.
Occasionally you're just going to be out of luck but that's all part of the balancing. If first place always had a way to defend everything it'd be too easy for them relative to the racers caught in the middle of the pack. It's the whole reason the blue shell exists, much as people hate it.

Um...Isn't ZL the item button?
When choosing a Kart, press +/-. Then L to turn it off. You can also do this in the pause menu.
Hang an item behind you to block. That's what you should be always doing in first place.
Hmm I could have sworn ZL didn't work when I tried it, but that's great to hear, thanks! Will make things so much easier for using items. Now I just need to learn how to play with auto accelerate because 200cc seems almost impossible without it.

I think a general tips thread (or post) would be helpful to newcomers to Mario Kart.
Stuff like always try to have a banana peel or shell behind you when in first place, and try to drift round every corner and do tricks on every jump, etc.

You can wall/gap dodge them, but you need to have those areas nearby when the shell comes, and then be able to execute it properly. See a red shell being dodged without any items around 50 second mark:

Try exiting and reentering.
Not quite like those platforms. On those you can deactivate through a website, no need to have your console on hand. With the Switch, if your console is stolen or breaks down the only way to get your purchases back is to call Nintendo so they can deactivate them from that console. Very similar to 3DS/Wii U in this scenario. Also why I would not recommend buying a console from outside of your home region.
