Second ARMS Invitational Tournament April 29-30 in Japan [Streaming Now]

Just watching the footage now, I didn't realize they showed a 2nd alt for Ribbon Girl. Nice to confirm there is more than one, but I guess expected given 2 vs 2 mode.

Exhibition match with MOV using Helix is here.

The slow punch (phalanx?) seems really annoying and obscures your vision like a hanging outstretched arm would in boxing. Look at it from Minmin's point of view.

Also you get your vision obscured ala MK8 squid when you get hit by the blue water arm.

I'm really fascinated by the lionhead shield and what you can do with it using various setups. It seems like it lingers out there until (I assume) you do another punch input, at which point it charges in to try and get a hit. But in the meantime it partly obscures the opponent's view of what you're doing with your other arm. Varying the timing of when to advance the shield or not is going to make for some really interesting setups.

The variety this game's going to offer in letting people create and alter strategies is going to be fascinating.

There are some more I believe. The Eagle/Phoenix, Fire Boomerague, Ice Glove.

I just got up to the ice-glove. I wonder if there's really "only" 30 gloves in the game. Feels like we've seen a lot of them if so.

Someone help me understand something. Can you select your starting glove sets before the match or does each character come with their own?

You can select a set of three before the round and during the round you can select between them before each match.

Oh, OK. So kinda like Splatoon where you have pre-set weapon packs. Would have been nice if we could choose what goes into a set ourselves.

You can, I believe. I think you pick the three to be the set for the match and then can swap them out for each arm between rounds.

Catching up on what I missed since I had to sleep.

Damn, this looks fun. Ninty looks like they got another hit on their hands.

You can. They made a big deal about it in the direct that anyone can use any type of ARMs, but you can only take three into a fight.

The question is can we save our sets like an Anti-Ninjara/Ribbon set or Anti-Mummy/Mechanica set so we don't have to re-pick each match.

Do you guys think ARMS should have teching? I think I'm so used to it in most fighting games it seems odd seeing the full fall down + get up animations play every time

Totally agree. Lot of low level play right now sadly. Few are even bothering to charge their arms or use character skills like Spring Man's deflection. Ninjara's teleport is just a dash action so players using him are already at an advantage at this point because other players are rarely using their character's actions and options.

I liked that Min Min from a bit ago who, right out the gate, charged her dragon arm to improve the left arm's effects and got a 2-0 victory for it.

ARMS sounds like it has depth, but Nintendo needs to have some sort of tournament where high-level play is encouraged. Maybe give the game to members of the fighting game community for a week, and then have them convene at a tournament?

Day 1 was public tournament for a novelty prize. Day 2 is the actual professional rounds.

You can't copy text on niconico.

I'm assuming it's based on the katakana for "o"?

I don't think it was that one.

if katakana then オ. the one I put is hiragana for o. also, you can copy chat text on nico, but need to be fast since the chatlog limit isn't much
