Gamestop: Nintendo Switch Selling out in hours not days (Mario Kart Launch info)

Had a girl on my twitter post a Starbucks date with her and her BF playing MK8 on the tablet, thing has a very appealing quirk I can't explain. It's resonated with the crowd nicely

I bet sales will taper by Summer.

Doesn't seem there is much to keep it afloat between now and Mario.

I mean there is probably great games on it but they will never be as robust as other games on the other consoles.

I imagine the Switch will.be exactly like the Wii... It'll start of strong then plummet by the end. Nintendo still have not shown that they can maintain a console on their own with adequate timely releases.

Such a shame when it eventually plummets after 5 years of record-breaking sales and close to 100 million units sold.

Also, look into this little game called Splatoon 2, it's pretty popular.

I do think, actually, that Sony might have been ahead of their time with their vision of bringing home console experiences to portables. The technology just wasn't there to do that concept justice. Vita often struggled to run games at its native 540p resolution, let alone 720p or 1080p on a big screen. I also have no problem admitting that Nintendo might have taken some cues from Sony's attempts while designing the Switch.

You can credit Sony for dreaming the dream years back, and you can credit Nintendo for understanding that now was the right time and right opportunity to realize it.

Most probably Nintendo already have such vision, but they didn't did it because they know without trying that the mobile tech isn't there at the consumer price level (Sony has to separate the memory card and its price to make the main hardware look cheaper). They have saw first hand how Game Gear failed back then.

And yet everyone is begging Nintendo to kill the 3DS.

Splatoon sold almost 5M on dead Wii U, it's going to explode on Switch.

Well yes, that's a how product life cycle usually is...

Not like PS3 and Xbox 360 that their respective companies spent loads of money trying to rejuvenate their product life cycles to last 8 years.

Except this may be a different situation, as Nintendo won't have another handheld to release and support at the same time like Wii had with 3DS. They have stated one of their goals with this is to only have to produce a steady stream of title for one platform.

Hmm..what could be different this time around. Hmm. Something something unified software development something something.

So the other consoles will have better games, but the Switch will sell 100m.

Lololololol....some people seriously feels threatened or something when Nintendo finds success. People like to talk (shit) about Nintendo, but don't do any basic research about them.

Agree with you... Normally consoles keep selling million forever..... -_-

Still think it remains to be seen if Switch could pull off a 5 years let alone 1.

I think once supply starts to meet demand this thing will no longer be selling out.

The numbers for the Switch are in line with XBOX One and PS4 first week sales... And one of those is hugely successfully and the other a mild success so I think Nintendo still has to prove demand is there when they start to meet it.

EDIT: Seems I sparked something here with the Switch owners.

Thing is obviously a hit. You guys are so wacky sometimes. The PS4 was also a runaway hit. It happens, y'all.

I don't get the bet hedging.

Lol, are you for real?
Maybe you shouldn't post something stupid like this:

If I go into a Sony/MS thread and post something like "Nintendo games are way more polished and fun than any games Sony/MS made". How do you think people will respond?

FYI, I own a shitton of Sony/PS products. So spare the "Nintendo fanboy" crap.

I think that's the definition of catching up to demand.

Everything is still up in the air. I think it will depend on two things:

1. Nintendo maintaining momentum by releasing high quality games every month or two (and maybe getting a few prominent 3rd parties involved)

2. Whether another company comes into the hybrid market with a better design

Except I didn't say anything about Sony games being more polished or better than Nintendo games.

I also didn't say anyone was a Nintendo fanboy sooo?

Possibly, but I don't see the success of Zelda/Kart as being indicative of what ARMs and Splatoon will do, because they don't have the popularity and recognition that their other (older) franchises do.

Fair enough. I think I didn't expand on my initial point.

I was saying that once supply meets demand it won't sell out... But it will also give us a clearer picture of there really is a demand there as sales numbers will be able to meet that of other successes.

Who cares if they sell 80M in 4 years or 8 years? Especially now with gamers being ok with incremental upgrades every couple years. The faster you sell the better.

As for maintaining their consoles, they only have so many franchises. At least now they are expanding their portfolio with games like Snipperclips, Arms and Splatoon.

I must have been incredibly lucky because I walked into a GameStop, asked if they had a Switch in stock and they said they'd be coming in 10 minutes, I waited 10 minutes and got mine no problem.

Yeah people are beating their chests over launch window numbers. I don't think Switch is another Wii U but let's wait until after the holiday season to crown it a smash hit. This thing very well could be GCN 2.0 or Wii 2.0. Only time will tell.

Minecraft comes out in a couple of weeks right? I could see portable multiplayer Minecraft being a system seller. Not as much as Zelda and Mario Kart, but still.

It really comes off as sour grapes.

Meanwhile I'm over here having a blast with both a Switch AND PS4. 2017 has been gaming heaven

The Gamecube never sold this well, and this is handheld with pokemon on it. (have a look at what all Nintendo handhelds have sold) You people make no sense. Not to say it will do wii numbers but 20 million is far too low almost mocking the people in the bet thread that said DoA level.

Well I was one of those, but I'm not fully convinced I was talking fanboy dribble just yet. To be honest, yes BotW caught me completely by surprise by being a sprawling epic that you can play very well in short bursts. But at the same time, BotW is pretty unique in this regard. It really revolves around exploration and meaningful reward every five minutes or so. Going straight back to Horizon after finishing Zelda it struck me how turgid Horizon was, even though beforehand I was singing praises of its pace. So maybe I do want to play all big games on the switch, but maybe Zelda is also simply an outlier.

Xenoblade is the next single player epic, correct? We'll see by then. Maybe you are right after all.

Oh wow!!! Did you solve this equation on your own? Colour me impressed.

Apparently Nintendo having 4 first party major releases in the first 5 months isn't enough....
Also guys Wii U was easy to find after 2 weeks we are over 2 months in and it's still selling out(non holidays either).

You realize Wii U sold out initially too, right? Just quote me instead of throwing shade lol

Wii U sold well for literally like 2 weeks during the busiest shopping season of the year and was selling sub-100K by January. If you want to say its premature to predict Wii or DS/3DS success, I think that's fair- but the comparisons to Wii U are absurd.

No it didn't the the white edition was almsot always in stock even during christmas. It launched in CHristmas and sales had died off by jaunuary. Wre near the middle of the year hear and the things still sold out and is selling even more because of mario kart.

Your argument doesn't make sense.

You need to read this - https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017...h-into-the-switchs-successful-launch-numbers/

Edit: and I never compared it to Wii U I straight up said it probably won't end up like that console if you re read my comment

How did the Wii U perform at launch?

Consolidating the handheld and home consoles into one was a good decision, but how do we know this will hold up a year or 2 from now?

Local wal mart got 10 in at like 10pm last night and they were all gone by 8am. Who shops for consoles that late?

No, it didn't. I worked retail at the release of Wii U. The system was widely available the day after launch in my area. At our store, we sold our stock of around 20 pre-ordered Wii Us on day one. We received a shipment of eight units the following day. It took over a month to sell them. During the holiday season.
