Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |OT| Deluxe Salt

Sorry, but the heavies are way too good in this game and need to be nerfed.

When you have stats that give combos like 3.75 ground speed(5 air and water speed), 4 acceleration, and 4 mini turbo, with 3.5 weight, 3.25-3.5 handling+traction, its way too fucking OP. Literally no other character class could beat it.

Bowser/Morton/Mii, Dry Bowser/Wario, and DK/Waluigi/Roy classes need to get nerfed asap.

Bowser and Dry Bowser's class should get -.25 in speed and -.25 mini turbo, or .25 in acceleration and -.25 mini turbo.

DK/Waluigi/Roy's class should get -.25 in mini turbo.

I actually think Rosalina/King Boo/Link should get a small buff. Either .25 in weight, handling, or acceleration.

All the light and medium classes should get buffed too. I'm thinking either .25 boost in mini turbo, .acceleration, or speed.

This morning I was in a room where everyone was from Japan (except me), and all the races were very pleasent and fun. 3rd place was my usual placement, and I was okay with that because the races were all well played and fair.

Cut to present time, I'm in a room full of Americans and Canadians - I get 1st place during my first race. Race two starts, and I get absolutely bombarded with items whenever possible. I fall into 11th place, 10th place throws a red shell behind him and hits me - I finish 12th. This pattern is similar for the six or so races that followed.

This post doesn't really have an agenda or anything. Just thought it was interesting. I wish I could have stayed in that Japan lobby forever, they were such a nice bunch.

I barely ever seem to have problems connecting with others online. If that rare occasion happens I just take the switch out of the dock and turn it off instead of putting it to sleep and it fixes the problem.

I spend way more time trying to fucking join a random race than actually playing. Fuck this shit.
It can be pretty infuriating. And when I finally get into a room there's inevitably lag issues like the item spinner locking up. :(

ARMS seemed a little better, but obviously a very different game.

Is there any skill to Baby Park? Even if you get far ahead you're constantly in the cross hairs.

A little bit, but it's mostly a track where even the weakest player has a chance to win given the chaos that can ensue there. So mostly noobs, or people that like seeing the world burn vote for it.

I only play single player, so there it literally just seems like a dice roll to win against the AI.

I think the host just ragequit in a game I was in... Just as I approached the finish line in 1st I got a disconnection error message.. lol

Is it possible to make a cup online and lock let's say 4 spot for friends and let the rest of the spots be filled up by matchmaking random guys?

Really should be able to replay single races in grand prix. Getting fucked into 2nd place on the third course is the worst. Had to toss my switch aside like a used tampon

No Grand Prix mode in any prominent racing game has ever allowed this that I know of.. That's the whole point of it being a Grand Prix mode

I'm actually failing to recall, but I'm almost certain I've played some racing games where you can retry a single race in multi-race events. I swear it's been done.

For what you're trying to accomplish, you guys would be better off simply joining a regular Worldwide lobby.

Technically yes, you can create a "cup online for friends" but they come with problems too.
Friend lobbies will only accept your friends and friends of your friends. No random people around the world.

You can create an open tournament but unless it becomes very popular, no one outside your group of friends will join long term.

If you want a constant stream of random players while playing with friends, a WW lobby would be the best option. That or a really popular tournament.

Yep that's Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's online alright.

And Nintendo wants to charge money for their shitty, barebones online service later this year.

I don't have a Switch yet, I still play on Wii U. But what do you think is the biggest contributing factor, netcode, or people with bad WiFi / no ethernet adapter? Both? Makes me worry about online viability in general tbh. They did the same on the Wii U. But I think before, people would pay up for that online stability as it was a rooted device. Maybe people embrace the portability now so see ethernet adapters as irrelevant to the way they're going to play most of the time and that's why people are having issues online. Idk.

Lol never seen that in-game. Maybe first player has been disconnected?

I think it's just the Link player has a very bad connection, and there was a refresh tick at an unfortunately timed moment that lead the blue shell updating who it should target, as it realised that the character behind was actually the one in front.

Didn't you have to retry the track on Mario Kart 64 if you got below 4th place? (possibly the SNES version too but I'm not sure off the top of my head)

Yeah, Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, and Mario Kart: Super Circuit all forced you to retry if you got 5th or lower. You had a limited number of retries in SMK and MK:SC, but MK64 allowed you to retry an infinite number of times.

I finally finished the singleplayer content a few minutes ago. After a few evenings struggling with 3-starring the last 200cc cups (especially the special cup's rainbow road) I finally got a lucky break. Clocked 60 hours or more but did some local play and online play in the mix. I think it's time to pick Zelda up again but I will surely miss this game. One of the best games of all time and the best launch window game any family focussed console could have gotten. If it had Birdo it could be the best game of all time.

And btw Waluigi in Smash please!

I'm thinking of buying this game today, but are you guys still playing with each other on the Discord channel or is it dead around there? I would just like to have a group of people to play with occasionally.

The Discord channel has its moments where a bunch of people will play at any given time. It mostly happens during the weekend.
Some of us play almost everyday but it's usually Worldwide or tournaments outside of GAF.
If you're planning to get the game based on the community's activity then I wouldn't recommend it tbqh.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has an option for one or two players on a single system over Wireless Local play.

If it were one person per Switch, max connections I could have is 8. This may be a dumb question but what is stopping me if I have 6 Switches in vicinity, and two people per Switch, I could have 12 player Mario Kart that doesn't require a LAN connection?

I'm not 100% but I belive they're capping player count due to controller signal interference.

The maximum number of Switches that can be connected is 8, but the maximum player count is 12. Yes, you can have 6 Switches connected with 2 players on each one.

Got the game yesterday. Any tips for newcomers?
In case you are interested:
Blue sparks give you 0.7 seconds of boost once you let go of the R trigger.
Orange ones, 1.7 seconds.
Pink (actually, they're supposed to be purple?) sparks net you 2.7 seconds of boost.
Don't be too greedy though, especially in the beginning. A safe blue spark boost is ten times better than a pink one that sends you into a mad dash off the road.

Read up on drifting and sparks in the help menu. It's well hidden, at the bottom of the main menu. Also contains tips on jumps and the start countdown.
Turn off auto steer by pressing + on the kart selection screen.
Oh gawd, this so much. I was despairing about my suddenly terrible Kart skills until my friend accidentally stumbled upon that option. Would it have killed them to make this feature a bit more obvious.

Anyway. Another newish Switch owner with MK8DX, reporting in. Already harvested a lot of tears at a Biergarten. Even managed to get a tiny tournament going between one server, me, my friend, and two fellow guests. Two switches, lots of fun, I think I won. 10/10, will annoy other guests again.

Also:
An odd oversight is that "wireless play" aka local wireless multiplayer doesn't unlock kart parts. Your coins are still counted towards the unlocks, you just do not get the "new part unlocked" animation at the part selection screen and thus no new parts unless you back out to the main menu and unlock them one at a time by entering another mode until the part selection screen (to get one piece), then back out again (to get the unlock message for the next part), and so on. ... I had 900-odd coins, so I had to do the main menu dance eighteen times. Bleh.

Wait...spectating my friend as I clicked join...and it didn't disconnect me...

Since when did I do this? Usually it Error Messaged!

The past couple of nights I haven't even had full rooms in just standard Regional races.

This game seemed pretty short lived, guess it was inevitable with most having played it already on Wii U.

I think I just experienced a different kind of salt. I was closing in on 10th place on a track list, with a slight gap between be and nr 12, now I'm pushed down to 19th with a better time than I had before. Did everyone just decide to beat the track over the last hour or is there some weird motivational thing of not showing all the ghosts on the tracks? And if this last one, where can one find a reliable ranking list so I don't needlessly brag to all my buds the next time I think I'm getting good...
