I realize it's a lost season season and all but the fact that Cespedes seemingly cannot play back-to-back games consistently and has a million issues with his legs does not bode well for a $25+M per year player over the next 3 seasons.

It's not even really that. It's that he somehow hasn't learned when to pull a fucking starting pitcher. Lynn gave up 2 home runs (almost 3 if not for Fowler) and 2 triples in one inning before Matheny pulled him. And that's after Lynn was doing shaky earlier.

Same thing with Waino yesterday.

Carlos Martinez is the only thing about this team that's worth watching and that's only because it's harder for Matheny to fuck up.

It's a shame one of these NL West teams won't get to be represented in the playoffs this year. MLB might need to look at their postseason structure if the 3rd best team by record gets ousted in a single win-and-in game.

I still expect the Dodgers to win the division. The Rockies have been great, but I think the youthful pitching will have a hard time remaining this consistent through 80 more games. I hope the DBacks keep winning. Every game this week has been a nail-biter.

Nah, the new wild card is still a better solution than the old way. This'll make for a more exciting battle for the division anyways with the threat of needing to play a one-game playoff.

Forgive me. As a DBacks fan, October baseball drama is not traditionally of import to me, so I wasn't aware. Have the second and third best records ever met in the wild card game? It's just such an awful way to lose. As if 162 games weren't enough to determine who the playoff worthy teams are.
