Destiny 1 losing Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner after August

This is probably the dumbest thread about Destiny on GAF, and that's saying a lot.

First of all, let's assume everyone complaining about this actually still plays Destiny (lol) and plays it to the endgame (lol)

1) If you play Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris for the competition, there will be none when all of those players move over to the sequel

2) If you play for the loot, they've made it so you don't have to play those modes to get their loot

3) If you play for the "content spaces that are only open when these events are active" like the Lighthouse with absolutely nothing to do but open a chest, then.... lol. It's barely a social space, one that is only accessible to people who get to 9 wins. I guess all the bad players were locked out of that content too.

On that note, playlists aren't content. Trials is Elimination and Iron Banner is Control, Clash or Supremacy. None of those game modes are getting removed.

What are we mad about again? I'm a big Destiny critic and beyond complaints about the "games as a service" model, this thread shouldn't even be a thing.

Quoted for visibility, since new people don't read the whole thread and just enter to rage on their favorite game to hate on.

But how would they do so? I mean, it's a game made for masses and masses even bought this game. Do you expect millions of well informed gamers out there, seriously?

Lol, all responsibilty is on Bungie to inform then? Your post is textbook irresponsibility.

To be honest I don't care if the modes go away. What matters is the unique weapons, armor, shaders, and emblem attached to the event. If the event goes away does that mean I won't be able to complete my kiosk and get those sets again. I'm gonna be fucking pissed if that's the case. Hide shaders and emblems behind RNG, when the event is about to go.

This is the shit that pisses off players mostly. Rewards behind events.

Shaders have always been RNG in Trials and Iron Banner.

Would be a kickass banner.
This is like when folks griped about losing the ability to run Nightfalls when they didn't buy The Taken King, saying that Bungie was stealing content from them-- Live events are not content. Live events have to move on with the community, or else they'll be wasted efforts.
Oh I have fond memories of those times. Everyone loved the Nightfall pool being so small for months at time. Will of Crota again? Hell yeah!

Got to agree with this. As stupid as Bungie is, I don't see the big deal about this one.

The players who buy d1 now because they are sold by d2 and they can't wait to play it, otherwise why players go to buy a dead game with new version coming out right now, just because it's 50% off?

The haters don't play the game, and they treat this like bungie removed d1 servers.

And for the loot, It has been there for such years and you don't get them, you pay no attention before, is it really matters for the last month to do or in the past 3 years you don't do anything?
Y1 book and Y1 emblems are gone, the loot are the same thing, As a TTK joined player I envy that, but I know there is something I missed. Something only for Y1 players. You don't try your best at the right time, why not blame yourself?
And you still have 1 month to accomplish that.

The last time IB is something I will treasure it.
And before that, get hyped for D2 beta

Wait, so because this doesn't affect you it's not thread worthy? It doesnt affect me and I still saw it as noteworthy info, considering the most popular (and only end game) PVP activities are coming to an end a month prior to D2.

Keep your thread whining on discord pls :p

How do you know? Do you expect all people buying the successor?

Bungie's been historically pretty solid at getting the vast majority of players to move forward to a sequel.

Halo 3 outright decimated Halo 2 at launch (and Halo 2 was unable to be dethroned by any 360 title in the 2 years between the 360's launch and Halo 3's release)

6K0EBGu.png

Reach knocked Halo 3 out of the top ranks once it released. It only dropped in rank once they had to walk away from the game due to the MS/343 takeover.

(Halo 3's return spike was due to them activating the Bungie Flames for everyone in the game as a one-off)

I don't doubt it, it's just irritating to me that a game like Destiny will be completely useless in, let's say, ten years. You have a game on a disc or digital tied to your account that isn't that game anymore like it used to be because it didn't get incremental updates but a successor that took content away from the game you once bought.

I see most these comments and think... are not most of these people always saying "destiny 1 is dead"?
So if no one is playing this content what does it matter?

Yeah, but in this case it's more or less D1 is running out of gas. Almost everyone I regularly play with has already dropped out of playing a while ago. IB search times have already gotten longer. I don't think D1 is going to have any other changes after this besides them adding in all the PS content for the 360 and One in October. This is a company that took over the Halo 1 PC servers and is running them right now to keep that game working after the Gamespy shutdown on their dime even though they no longer have rights to the IP. "Doing this to make people move to the next game!" doesn't really feel like it'd be part of their vocabulary. It's just run of the mill playlist consolidation. They could keep it up, but it'd stop working anyway, so might as well get people consolidated into the normal version of the modes

I would have thought everyone would be willing to drop Destiny like a bucket of hot sick once D2 lands.

But no, apparently the idea of being stuck playing the same broken ass mess is more appealing than playing the same broken ass mess but with some new bits stuck on.

I understand what Bungie is doing here in terms of not wanting to support old content and I'm split here. I don't mind Iron Banner no longer coming around but I agree with those who say Trials, at least, should be somehow automated and kept around because Trials was a key selling point of the House of Wolves DLC.

I've never been a fan of the way Bungie keeps moving content behind further paywalls. It's always felt shady. They're not a subscription MMO but they sure keep trying to act like one. Looking back on the various sub MMOs I have played, most of them weren't even as egregious as Bungie's been with locking out old content behind new expansions.

Honestly, I'm expecting Activision to kill off the Destiny 1 servers within a year. I set the over/under line at 12.5 months. I'd bet the under for last gen servers and slightly over for the PS4 and XBO servers. And because they'll be neck deep with Destiny 2, they'll gradually kill off D1 and it will largely go unnoticed until it's completely gone.

Glad I hopped off the Destiny 2 train a while back. Activision is a mess.

Edit: Spent countless time on D1.

"Countless" time, lol:

A lot of you guys seem awfully upset about losing two PVP playlists (not modes or content) in a game you either barely played years ago or never played, lol. I just picked a couple random negative posts, but I'm guessing I'd get similar DestinyStatus results for basically everyone whining in here.

The manufactured outrage in this thread is amazing.

At least someone is checking for the heavy shitposting, thanks. I haven't played for awhile but at least I've played Destiny to death and realize taking this away isn't a huge issue.

Just like Activision shut off older CoDs?....

Destiny 1, including the PS3 and 360 versions, is going to be available for at least the next ten years or so, minimum. They're currently still supporting Halo 1 PC, which will notch off year 14 this year.

Damn, proof is right there, granted some might be legit but most ppl use this game as their bitching post. It's like the Justin Beiber of videogames, ppl just love to shit on it. I had issues with the game like most did at launch but I can't deny its still one of the best coop shooters on the market. Already got my digital deluxe ready to go!

I'll skip it for the same reason I skipped Titanfall 2.
No mater how little story there was in the original game, "I haven't played the original game"!

However, unlike Titalfall, whose first installment got released exclusively on a failed console I didn't buy, I DID buy the Original Destiny as a bundle with my white PS4.
I Just hated it!
For all it's hype and full price it was an insult to gamers, offering the bare minimum for the maximum price. And feeling that the game owns me money I never finished it and skipped all DLC and "expansions" until they release some worthy deal later on, that has enough content justify a full price and the money I payed when I originally got it.
A few expansions later I was considering giving it another go, but with a full sequel being on it's way, it appears that the original doesn't have much life in it anymore to want to be played.
And since I won't play the original, I won't play the sequel.

Quick, let's start an outrage over fuckall stuff. Oh wait it's already too late for that.

Seriously, you are not getting locked out of anything. And if this angers you then I guess you should get angry at every game that drops support after the newer game comes out.

Wat. This makes me glad I still haven't bought the Destiny collection. I was so close too.

Good point. Okay, this is important. Please listen.

If you care about live/seasonal content in a multiplayer game, do not wait to start playing it until it's 3 years old and a sequel is imminent.

More common sense information at 11. Captain Obvious signing off.

Reads Ace as Lace. May God have mercy on their soul
some complaints here are ridiculous...anyway a friend of mine who hasn't played destiny since the the dark below DLC, has bought the collection back in march...and within a month hes already done the kings fall and wotm raids with challenges and reached to 400 LL in a month alone. right now hes tryna get the grimoire to 5000 for that extra emblem theme for D2

Also keep posting dem fake outrage posts from shitty D1 players, Wilde. lol...hardly play but they surely spend more time bitchin about Destiny than playin it. lol

Emerson

May contain jokes =>
I'm extremely more surprised that people are sad about this than I am that this is happening. Anyone who actually cares about Destiny will be playing Destiny 2. You seriously want them leaving a small live team working on the first game which is obsolete and will have no playerbase?

^

ToO and IB already have dwindling numbers playing them, ToO in particular is down to maybe 10% of what it once was, with nothing but streamers and paid sherpas taking people to the Lighthouse.

IB gear has been in rotation since the last expansion launched, and there have been multiple chances to get each piece. At this point, if someone doesn't have something, they've made a conscious effort not to get it.

This is just bitching to bitch and dogpile on Bungie. There are very few people even playing Destiny regularly now since the sequel has been announced. I've put hundreds upon hundreds of hours into it, and within 5 minutes of launching the game these days I'm already ready to quit, because there's nothing left to do. There's no reason for them to continue IB or ToO, because once Destiny 2 hits no one will be left to play them.

How about this I've played it quite a bit and I will tell you Bungie fucking over people removing content to blackmail them into a purchase is a shit-tier policy.

And it's such an obvious shit-tier policy that anyone can recognize and mock - but hey, since you require card-carrying member status to accept any criticism of your corporate overlords, here are my stats http://destinytracker.com/destiny/overview/ps/bitmapfrogs

Not a fan of removing content. Whether there is a sound defense to this move or not, removing content is never a good idea, especially if it has been established within said game.

For the arguments that state that it hardly gets played compared to when it used to...so what. If I have learned one thing from this site, it is that people here love options, whether they are popular or not. Removing modes is removing options for how people play the game, and is never a good thing/idea, no matter the spin.

But at least it will be in Destiny 2...../s

Bungie isn't fucking anyone over - those modes will be abandoned by the general population anyways. Also, stop being so edgy, you're not as intellectually enlightened as you think you are.

Their policy is fine: by the new game or be left behind. Destiny is a living product and Destiny 1 will eventually be taken out behind the shed.
