You can only choose one system to play for the rest of your life, which one?

Emulation is already "not allowed" but people do it anyway :p (well it's really proprietary code and rom dumps that are the issue).

But the clear and obvious answer is PC though.

PS2, 3, or 4...I could probably live with any of them. PS2 GOAT though so that's top billing.

Sega Saturn could work

SNES or Genesis I could also live with.

Even without emulation, this is still PC by a country mile. A gigantic back catalog of games and continual access to new ones.

I probably play more PS4 than PC these days, but I'd still have to say PC if I had to choose. Multiplayer games like MMO's or shooters can last you decades (literally for me in the case of World of Warcraft or Counter-Strike), the backwards compatibility is endless and most new games these days are getting PC versions.

If I have to choose a console then maybe the PS2 or PS4.

honestly i think the parameters of this question is kind of stupid.

its dumb to include PC as a choice since its not a static platform.

all other platforms/consoles have a finite library of games that will only span at most a decade.

if you even want to make this an actual question with choice limit it to PC games from a certain decade.

Even with emulation off the table, PC without a doubt.

Now that it's even getting more and more of the best JRPGs, it's the best platform by far, outside of wanting Sony exclusives.

Looking at the rate the 3DS is getting games vs the rate at which I'm finishing 3ds games, I will probably die before I can complete every game I want in its library.

Throw DS backwards compatibility in and I'll be busy in the afterlife too.

pc for its range of games that are continually updated like league and steam games. Outside of pc probably wii u since (with mods) you can use it to play gamecube, wii, wii u games and it has virtual console as well.

I'm not sure I understand why we would just exclude one of the major benefits of PC gaming from consideration just because consoles don't share that unique advantage.

Saturn

Fantastic fighting games, shmups, exclusives that never made it to anything else, and an import library that makes me weak in the knees. I would happily play nothing but SEGA Saturn for the rest of my days.

PC -I will increasingly have access to the majority of games ever made at the option to be played at the best possible spec. Free online, cheap games, any controller I want and of course in this theory world I cannot emulate almost every single console ever made at highest spec available, but I can use things like PS Now. I can stream it to a tablet, play it on a couch, and do 1000000 other things with it.

boxing myself in, since in this world I can't emulate,...SNES. all day every day. The gens past that the graphics will look considerably worse and worse for a lot of games where as.. SNES is mostly timeless..except for things like Star Fox. etc..anything "cutting edge".

My favourite platform is the PS2, but I'm gonna go with PC. The vast library of PC games available + the ability to emulate any console game makes it a no-brainer.

Outside of PC, its hard for me to say. I missed out on a lot of good games because i was too busy playing the same games for hours on end (CoD, runescape, garrys mod, etc). But...i'll go with the PS4. I'm still playing catch-up with it's library, as i'm very late to the party. But my god the few games ive played are phenomenal.

Pc easily, mainly because with a pc you'd have endless variety and get a TON more choice and everything from old games to brand new ones.

If I had to pick a console, probably ps2.

Am I the first person to say GameCube? Five pages in?
Literally the third post.

Anyway... WiiU and it's not even close.

Even if VC isn't allowed for emulation reasons it natively plays Wii and also Gamecube games (no emulation necessary) and supports controllers from all 3. No hesitation, really.

BC compat 60gb ps3 is choice #2.

PC. Been said a million times already, but I mean, you get access to the biggest library, so..

Even if it excludes emulation the PC library is just way too massive compared to other systems. If I had to pick a console I'd go PS2 probably.
