Yesterday I played online and there was a person with just 349 points...so weird

I fully believe these are trolls that try to ruin score gains for higher levels with their 0-level scores ...there was one of those in vanilla MK8 online too.

I just refuse to believe they would play online but NEVER win a single game and always place last for weeks and weeks to lose this many points.

You might be right cause she really wasn't that bad

After getting my feet wet, I was wondering if any of you fine folks are still playing the game?

Here is my Friend Code, if you want to add me to your friends list: SW-1525-9128-0223

Yes. I almost just bought it, so I would be happy to play. Don't we do GAF races sometimes?

For the first time I gathered with a group of friends outside where everybody brought their Switch. We wanted to play Mario Kart outside for a change. At first it was amazingly easy to set up a room locally and to make every switch join that room. But after some races we always had the problem that one of the Switches lost the connection and was forced to exit that room. There was no option to rejoin. Were we doing something wrong?

so my bro bought this game for his switch, we played some split screen (HH mode) and gotta say game is so fucking good

first thing i will do is get this game when i buy a switch for myself (again)

Sometimes I really wish I could bring myself to pick this up, but my Wii U is right fucking next to my Switch and buying the game a second time doesn't make sense. :(

I had a similar issue, and it was with just one other Switch.

Newest patch supposedly improves the WiFi on the Switch since it was pretty awful since launch (might still be? Haven't tested it fully)

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's online is inexcusably poor and Nintendo should be catching tons of flak for it.

It shouldn't be a nightmare experience to matchmake with an online friend. I shouldn't lose my ability to quick item select in every second match. I shouldn't be getting double coins for the entirety of several races because I happened to match with a regional player with a terrible connection.

Today I noticed a strage difference between docked and handheld: The loading screen.

In docked mode it is just a plain white screen (plus the car icons trucking by at the bottom). but all the designs are missing. In handheld mode they show though, just like on Wii U.

Has this been talked about?

You sure your TV is correctly configured? I'm pretty sure the loading screen looks roughly the same (minus some new icons) between the versions of the game.

Something is wrong with your TV

Since the logos and designs are very light grey, I'm guessing your tv settings are such that the grey is getting lost.

Here's a docked mode video - you can see the designs, but they're very close to being lost in the background here, too.

You might want to go through your tv settings, as you're losing a lot of detail if you can't see the designs.

Yeah, had to dial down the brightness quite a lot. Here was me thinking my TV was calibrated quite decently. Thanks for the replies.

Man, I love this game.

This is my first Mario Kart after being an Xbox/PlayStation gamer the last few generations and it's just so fresh and fun. Even recreated the Nintendo advert when I brought my Switch to work and I played in tabletop mode with a friend. People who aren't used to playing games are certainly impressed by the technology.

I notice my Mario Kart played time is @ 45~ hours can anyone confirm the counter includes offline hours when you have no WiFi access?

Everytime you start a game, every second will go toward your total playtime, even if you leave the console idle for too long (as lon as the game is still being used) so yes, offline hours count.

This game still makes me laugh so much during messy races. Just did a lightning strike while like, five people were gliding in the Hyrule map. Caught up with them on the other side and it became a huge cluster in the hallway, items popping off everywhere.

I can't wait to go back to school in September and play with friends irl.

Sounds like you've set HDMI RGB Range to Full on the console and TV is expecting limited.

Thank you for further input. I'll investigate...

on second thought the brightness setting shouldn't cause it, since it wasn't an issue on Wii U on the same TV.

RGB range has nothing to do with brightness. It's about the range of shades possible for a color, and if you have it set to full but your TV expects limited detail will be lost.

Agreed, it's very fun!
havent seen you in the popgaf thread for a long time sis! :)

Baby Park online is literally like one of the best experiences in my MK history lmao! Way too much fun! Even at frantic 200cc!

was in that same boat and I had a limited edition version for the wii u that came with the blue shell plus I bought the DLC on there. But the fact that you have portability and play around friends and family homes was a seller to me. Global match making still glitches sometimes where I end up waiting quite a bit before I reset the game.

Is there a guide on what equipment to use to beat the staff ghosts on each course? It's actually more challenging to me than 3 starring the courses and it's the last gold part I'm missing.

I beat them all with the same loadout.

- Sport bike
- Slick tires
- Cloud parachute

A couple were pretty difficult to beat without changing loadout but I wanted to make a point of doing every course with the same thing. It's definitely possible.

So let me get this straight, 200cc mode is not really the "correct" was to play Mario Kart, right? As somebody relatively new to this I find 200cc mode races very frustrating.

Also, what does CC stand for? :)

150cc is what the tracks were designed for. 200cc was added in the last DLC and can be a pretty crappy experience on some tracks.

Not sure what CC stands for. It just governs how fast the karts go.

Old? Saw this on Twitter and thought I'd share.

My friend and I tried playing local wireless multiplayer but kept giving us communication errors after a few minutes into a match. Had this ever been addressed? Any fixes? It was super frustrating and honestly a little embarrassing watching my non gaming friends get frustrated with something that is sold as a portable couch co op / multiplayermachine.

Disappointing.

This has happened to me too. Sitting closer helps a lot (or seemed to) but it sucks that it isn't super reliable.

For what it's worth I just played 3 player wireless today between 3 switches for a few cups and it worked without error. This is the first time I've played local wireless since the new patch.

Just started playing this yesterday - I love it! I went into all the GAF tournament lobby's and they were all empty. : (
Yeah. Nobody plays gaf tournament anymore but some of us still play together on worldwide 200cc and battle mode. So keep an eye on Mario kart discord.
