Trump: Trans Soldiers now barred from the military entirely

linkboy

so if you're currently enlisted. you just get discharged or what? do you still get benefits for your service?

It's not going to happen today, as the military will want to make sure all the legal aspects are taken care of.

Being as any separation that results of this, they would be involuntary, so there might be some type of separation payment that gets paid out.

Some of them, sure. Definitely.

Here we go. I am going to open myself up to a firestorm of hate from the Rep haters here, but here we go.

I consider myself a left of center moderate, with libertarian leanings. I fucking despised Trump. But I didnt vote because I didnt like Hilary either, and I chose not to choose between the lesser of two evils. However, I live in Texas, so my vote was largely irrelevant. Texas was going for Trump.

Now for the shitty part....

99% of my family are republicans. Including my highly educated parents. They are not racist. They are not bigoted. My sister is a lesbian and they love her dearly. So before I say anything else, FUCK ANYONE that acuses my family of voting for Trump because of being racist or bigoted.

My family, INCLUDING MY LESBIAN SISTER, almost all voted for Trump. They did it because they were gullible, bought into his charade, his cavalcade of lies. My sister was going to vote Hilary until she heard the deplorables comment. That single statement swung her vote to a man she otherwise wouldnt have voted for.

I get so goddamn sick and tired of this us vs them shit and everyone inthese threads accusing ALL republicans of the despicable nature that is so obvious in Trump, and by turning a blind eye to his actions, the rest of the Reps in washington.

So yes, fuck republican politicians. Fuck any of the racist bigoted republicans who voted for Trump for those reasons. But I draw the line there.

And people are so caught up in supporting their goddamn team, that they refuse to accept this reality. They refuse to accept the fact that there are good, hard working, loving, non racist, non bigoted republicans out there like my family that voted for this incompentent, blubbering, bigoted orange toad simply because they were so short sighted and gullible that they believed the lies of his that they cherry picked and chose to focus on, blind to the rest of what was so obvious about him to me and most other neutrals/democrats.

Yes my statement of fuck both sides is probably taking this long-winded response too far in the other direction, and obfuscating the fact that the subject matter at hand is most definitely tied to the evils of the republican party. But I do hate both sides, insofar as I hate the fact that we have "sides" at all.
I'm way late on this but piss off.

Own up to consequences. No one good, loving, and not a motherfucking moron voted for Trump.

I'm not talking about gaf posters, I'm talking about Americans. Where are the protests? The women's march was great, but then it just... stopped.
Aren't Americans known for their passion and love of their country?

The women's march was great, but it didn't have instant results, so people gave up.

don't see why any of these people would want to defend the country anyways when the country won't defend their rights.

Gay people got section 8 discharges. No benefits and "not mentally fit to serve" on their record.

No one's coming for my house. No one's raising my taxes. I got muh healthcare. Got my 401k. Got a job that pays me enough to play my videogames and argue on forums. As long as I say "yes sir, I'll do as you command, sir" when pulled over, I've got an okay chance of not getting keelt. I ain't muslim either, cuz that would suck.

America is awesome, yo. Whachu talkin' about?

More and more it sounds like you're just happily taking shots.

The women's march was the most ineffective protest if we want to make a comparison the the reaction from the Muslim flight bans and the protests that happened at airports.
I said it back then, and I'll say it now. The women's march was a massive facebook post for a lot of people. It was a reaction to disappointment, not a statement of intention.

The difference here being that transgender members were allowed to serve openly, and had that removed against their will.

Prior to the DADT repeal, gay military members were not allowed to serve openly.

Good point. But let's be honest. Do you really think Trump will allow them to get honorable discharges with benefits?

I mean my Step Dad is a great guy to me. He's done a lot for me. He's also a Trump supporter.
He's a racist, bigot, and a bit sexist. People need to own this shit about their family members. I'm sure they are fantastic to you but that doesn't mean they aren't shit in other ways especially to other people whom they don't give two shits about.

Yup. This is what's making me shaking my head. Everywhere I look on the internet, everyone acts angry and fed up. Yet, no country-wide protests, no riots, no show of the people that they disagree with these policies - the racism, the transphobia, the desctruction of the earth by denying climate change - by going out there. And I'm not talking about a few thousand people here and there. I'm talking about a show of force, every week. That the Women's March would be the start, not the end.

But I guess almost 40% of the US are totally fine with everything going on. And the other 60% are just not really...mad enough? Even though I don't understand how that's possible.

If calling terrible people deplorable was enough to swing her vote despite all the much worse things he has said and done, then your sister was just looking for a reason to vote for bigotry in the first place.

Legally, there's probably not much he can do.

They did nothing to receive anything other than an Honorable discharge and if he tried anything like that, it would be in court faster then you can blink (not that the moronic decision he made today won't be).

The military is going to take their time to ensure they get everything right if it does get to the point where they have to discharge anyone.

The last thing they want to do is deal with any legal ramifications.

Calling people racist is worse than being racist.
Calling people sexist is worse than being sexist.
Calling people homophobic is worse than being homophobic.
Calling people transphobic is worse than being transphobic.
Calling people bigoted is worse than being bigoted.

This is widely believed on a subconscious level. It's why it's a bad campaign move.

Not american, but can relate. My Grandpa - on the surface - is a nice guy. Cheery, pleasant and has obviously done a lot for me over the years. But he's also super racist and misogynistic. And doesn't think the British Empire did ANYTHING wrong.

That's actually meant to be more of a compliment really. I've admired how passionate Americans are about their country all my life. That's why myself and I believe others around the world are shocked at how America seems to be doing very little publicly to stop this debacle.

Maybe not. There are plenty of people who vote on emotion or a gut reaction. That's why Republicans are in power. They take advantage and manipulate these people. They tell them what to believe, and what to get fired up about.

Here's the obvious thing people shouldn't have to tell you. Only one side of the "us vs them" is stripping rights away from the other to satisfy false Christian narratives they manipulated to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. We are allowed to voice loud complaints online especially when the opposition is destroying our lives in the real world.

Your sister doesn't get brownie points for being lesbian. She voted for an awful human being. Nothing Hillary said changed who Trump is.

If you enabled this system of hate and human rights abuse you deserve to be lumped in with every racist and whatever other deplorable Republican who also did.

Why do you fall for that? They're selling you a picture that does not reflect the reality of how those people are really treated in the Canadian forces.

Because the difference is that it is allowed, not that they are treated perfectly. In 1860 you could say that Canada treated black people better than the US...but that doesn't mean they were treat well.

When he starts fucking with people's money and quality of life. Until then he's just telling it how it is.

No seriously, that's how it is. Y'all have friends who are on the conservative side, right? This ain't shit. It' really isn't.

Let's look outside the liberal bubble for a sec.

Unemployment is low. Stocks, while having an occasional dip, have been on the rise. Housing market is crazy good. Most middle class have a health care plan through their job. We're not having any food shortages. Other than the occasional blurb about Syria and those damn ISIS muslim bastards, Our military haven't been in the news killing people, so we must be doing well there, too.

And that's it. Fuck you - got mine is a pretty tired cliche, but well... it kinda fits. Many people just don't care about politics, and don't have empathy for folks that they don't see or interact with. If I'm able to still go to work, get paid, go have a drink, get laid, and basically enjoy myself, the fuck do I care about some transgender being able to get in the army? Hell, he's probably doing that guy/girl a favor! I'm not poor, and got health care, so why do I bother about this whole Obamacare bullshit? I follow the law, and don't do dumb shit if I ever get pulled over, so why worry about cops? My kid goes to a decent school, so no need to worry myself over all this mess about educational vouchers and shit.

He'd be able to make America great, if it wasn't for you meddling kids...

This is the realest post I've seen on this board in a long time.

I don't really think a person gets to set the standard of "my family isn't racist or bigoted" that's a judgment left to minorities that they interact with.

As a Black person in this country, I never felt like I was choosing a side. Police reform is vital to my ongoing survival, those who are opposed to that or vote for individuals in power who increase a threat to my and others lives aren't those I can sit down and reach an agreement with.

I also have trouble empathizing with, people were so called misled or they thought Trump would do well to them when the majority of Black people didn't vote him and don't vote for Republicans majoritively speaking. We have lives that are just as difficult as working class white people and we don't vote that way. Why is that? Why didn't we believe in Trump's populism?

I dunno, there are some things I just won't debate about. Banning trans individuals from the military is one of them. I have some respect for a reformed Trump voter but so many of them still support him. Like, what evidence they need more of until they have a change of heart?

I love how whenever this blatantly horrible shit happens, out comes the people who didn't vote, or voted R to tell us how "terrible Dems are doe". And how they just couldn't vote Hillary because "reasons".

It's always as a response to some hateful completely ridiculously dangerous and damaging legislation or change made by the fucktards they helped get into office. I guess the closest they can get to admitting they fucked up is to lash out and try to blame shit on everyone else.

"Fuck you for calling Republican voters bigots" ain't the shit to try to pull as the Republican party LITERALLY enforces bigoted rules on the nation bruh. Take that shit on elsewhere.

I mean my Step Dad is a great guy to me. He's done a lot for me. He's also a Trump supporter.

There was a great post last year or so, don't remember who made it or if I could find it if I tried, and I absolutely won't do it justice here, but it was basically along the lines of "You can't just be a 'nice guy' or do good things X, Y, and Z to earn 'not a racist' tokens to exchange as necessary." That concept expands to everything else as well, not just racism, and yet so many people have trouble with that. Like, a person couldn't possibly hold absolutely despicable beliefs have detestable character traits because they were a kind and caring parent or they did charity work or whatever. It doesn't work like that.

I served in the us military during three periods: DADT, the transition between allowing gays and transgender people to openly serve, and the New Normal of gays and transgender people openly serving.

Fuck every last Republican who is in support of this shit. Including posters on this board. These people have sacrificed just as much as anyone else in the military. Some did it while they were forced under specific and direct threat that if they ever revealed who they truly were they would be summarily deemed unfit to serve any further an discharged. People who wanted nothing more than to serve their country openly and freely. Those motherfuckers are far more brave and openly show more courage in their pinky then any fat pasty ass Republican who never served.

One of the best medics I knew when I was in was kicked out because she mistakenly, in a moment of needing comfort and emotional support told the wrong person that she was transgender in the era of DADT. That bigot told another bigot, and that bigot made sure it went up the chain until she was left with nothing and thrown out. She wound up fucking prostituting herself afterwards just to survive.

Who the fuck is someone like Trump, a draft dodger, able to tell someone that they can't give back to this country? Fuck you you miserable orange piece of shit. You don't care about our military, you don't care about our citizens, you probably barely even care about your family (but you will still throw them under the bus when it comes time to save your own skin, if you don't die of a cholesterol problem before it comes to that).

So again I say fuck anybody who is ok with this. Fuck any neogaf poster, fuck any red Piller, and fuck and Republican living who it's ok with this.

You will all answer for this you merchants of human misery.

Excellent post.

That picture tells me that if they had a picture of armed forces sipping tea in uniform they would have used that.
Why do you fall for that? They're selling you a picture that does not reflect the reality of how those people are really treated in the Canadian forces.
All countries have issues of abuse and treatment in their forces, no doubt. But today's actions need to be roundly denounced by the rest of the developed world.

Yep, and human nature sucks. I did read your post. I think I agree with a lot of what you say. My feelings on the matter at hand are covered above. I will probably step back from this thread because I am sure my family is about to be shit on and I dont feel like getting banned defending them.

You and your family would garner more sympathy if Trump was a normal, flawed candidate during the election that revealed himself as a terrible person during his presidency. But from day 1 (Mexicans are rapists), all the signs were there. Trump was always a perfidious human being, with a personal character so obviously terrible even his supporters secretly know it.

Exactly, none of this disgusting shit is surprising at all if you were actually paying attention. People either knew what they were voting for, or weren't paying close enough attention.
