First one to talk gets to stay on the aircraft!
Finished it and enjoyed it, one thing I don't really understand is
why is Ruth's dad so invested in Marty dying?
Kinda just seems like he's comically evil right now.

Finished on a binge watch last night.
preacher in the water with the baby freaked me out. Wasn't sure if he was drowning or baptizing the kid. Also loved the flashback episode showing back story on a few characters including the FBI agent and his drug addicted mom. Really well done. Hope this show goes on

He did both to that baby, I think he contemplated drowning it, but ducked and weaved into a baptism. That scene was mental though, I actually thought it was going to be the darkest thing I had ever seen on TV

Finished the show a few days ago, and thought it was absolutely incredible, but this plot line totally stood out to me as being unearned. Like, I have no idea why I'm even supposed to care about this character, there is absolutely nothing to set up their motivations or explain why they feel the way they do about Marty.

On EP 6 and really really liking this show, not sure how it has such low ratings on Metacritic and RT. I think its a lot of people thinking its too much like breaking bad.

But I really like Breaking bad so more of that is always fine by me.

Yeah. He had to have gone into there wanting to drown it and then changed his mind. No denomination would hold a baby down underwater for that long for a baptism. It would be insane.

Also, they way he was walking frenetically towards the shore when the scene starts. Yeah, he wanted to drown him at first.

Just finished episode 2. It's slow, bleak but extremely well polished and I'm certainly wanting to keep watching to see where it heads next. It feels like a segmented movie, and the soundtrack is interesting too.

My only issue is Bateman. Whatever he's in, I always find him so unlikeable, unbelievable and impossible to connect with. I'm sure I'd be enjoying it more if it had just about anyone else playing that part.

To be fair, the whole family is unlikeable in this. Perhaps that's the point, but it also leaves me not caring too much about their fate.

I never even bother with aggregate sites, they are pointless to me.

Friend tells me to watch Ozark: Curiosity- "Bah, this Breaking Bad wanna be. Oh well, guess I'll watch episode one."

Episode One: Intrigue- "Ok, I like this. I'm hooked!"

Episode Five: Confusion- "So creepy FBI guy
Is such the Casanova that he seduces a redneck with fly fishing romance? Sure, ok. What is he, like charming men with his poor nervous jittery voice and mock sincerity?

Episode Six: Doubt- "...Well I guess he can. Also, I'm not really feeling
how random bad fortune happens at the most inopportune moment to progress the plot.
"

Episode Seven: Anger- "
Did she just walk out into the road and get hit? I knew it would happen, and yup... it did. Ugh, I bet Marty needs to give back the investment money. I hate this show.
I quit."

Intermission for 3 days... Friend tells me to finish the show.

Episode Nine: Shock-

Oh wow... that ending.

Episode Ten: Acceptance- Great payoff. I take it back, I like this show. Bring on next season.

Best hour long drama on Netflix. Loved the whole series.

I never once thought about Breaking Bad when watching this show. It wasn't until I open this thread, and seen people arguing about the comparison. Don't you know

comparison-is-the-thief-of-.jpg

(I''m pretty sure Theodore Roosevelt didn't say this, but the point stands)

Can someone please spoiler with just a yes or no.

I am on episode 3 now.

The trailer trash storyline sucks and I hate that entire family. Especially the young girl. Does she die please? Or any/all of the trailer trash family?

I actually think the white trash part of the storyline was one of the reasons this show was so good. Instead of typical white trash characters they made them complex and smart. The best white trash characters I have seen since Winter's Bone. Also Ruth fucking rules.

That Ruth character is so good and complex
she is smart, resourceful and get things done. But, behind this criminal mastermind, she is a broken girl looking for acceptance from her father. She said she didn't want to kill Marty because he is a great businessman and a good man, but I think she found the father that she never had. I hope they continue to explore both angles next year, Ruth helping Marty run his business, but that fatherly figure she so desperately wants

This guy gets it.

Saw it a week ago. Really good stuff. I recommend it to everyone that enjoyed Breaking Bad. It's kinda similar, but Ozark skips a lot of the stuff Breaking Bad built over several seasons and jumps right into it. Amazing.

And holy shit that ending on season 10. My jaw was dropped in utter disbelief.

One of my favorite scenes is when the Bar Owner is reading through Bateman's books and confronts him about how bullshit it is.

Normally, she would tell him to leave and he would just get up and go. But in this he GETS FIERY! He is screaming, she is screaming, and it was incredibly realistic.

Yup, that reaction was really well done.

Finished it last night. I agree with everyone's views of the last episode. My wife walked in right before THAT part. She yelled "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!" and started crying. We have a new-ish baby, so I get it.

Great show overall. I really feel that the reviewers got this one wrong. I look forward to season 2.

Finished it.
Holy shit the final episode and that scene I was like...
they can't do that, no way they're going there.. baptism, that's what it is..oh shit, they're doing it. totally doing it. I can't..oh, thank fuck, how long was he going to keep him underwater
.

I really enjoyed it.
Great performances. Bateman was great, Linney was great. The rednecks, the FBI guy. Ruth was stellar. Rachel I thought was very good too.
Situations and dialogues were decent and often developed in unexpected directions. Both clever and dumb.

I am not sure I want a
season 2 though. I quite like how this ended. No real loose ends, most stuff wrapped up, bittersweet... they would probably ruin it trying to escalate things through one or two more seasons, no need to
.

I agree but I also need more of my girl Ruth :(

Finished this one up last night (binged it over a 3 day period). What a great show it was.....I really hope they renew it for a 2nd season and beyond.

My only fear is it could be like Bloodline though in having a fantastic opening season and having it peter out to nothing over the next couple

I really enjoyed every character and Bateman was superb in the lead role along with Linney. Julia Garner as already mentioned here a few times was also fantastic.

The pacing of this season was just spot on and I cannot really say there was a weak episode (even the flashback ep was strong imo and gave context to everything we had seen up to that point)

This show is so good. I completed it about a week ago and have recommended it to all my friends. I genuinely think that it's far better than Breaking Bad and that's a tremendous compliment because I loved that show. This was the perfect combination of suspense, comedy and drama. I will say that I hated Marty's wife and daughter. They were both entitled assholes, the son I went back and forth with but at least he understood what his father was doing and why. Marty was a much more likable character than Walt.

This show was really good at realistic reactions from characters. Like Marty's wife just punching him in the face in Episode 2

I think this is why I liked it so much, many of the characters we're relatable. The kids processing all the stuff like that. Marty and Laura Linney as a couple dealing with relationship issues while also dealing with the criminal aspects

I loved the show but this was probably the worst FBI agents I've ever seen on a TV series, dudes were being incompetents.

I don't know is this is a spoiler. Just my thoughts on Ruth.
I loved Ruth by the end. I hope they expand on the father daughter like relationship that seemed to be developing between her and Marty.

Episodes 2? Maybe watch some more.

Finished it tonight and thought it was superb. Just read through some reviews and critiques of it and I was a bit surprised by any criticism of the actors not being given enough story, the lead not carrying the viewer or characters that are wooden. Also was a bit surprised it wasn't more broadly praised.... My first impression or guess was that maybe some sort of failure to get hooked in the first episode or two because I think for a drama so reliant on tension or reaction to tension breaking, if the viewer just never believes the tension (or the characters from the get-go). then I think the soft middle of the season will lose them pretty quickly. I'm probably biased to the setting/theme but the characters hooked really hooked me.

Anyhow, who knows. I thought it was very good though.... Intense start and end. The first two episodes, in particular -- a lot of the story set-up in the first, and some of the emotional fallout in the second. Felt it got a bit soft in the middle and for a while I felt like it was doing too much setting up the Langmores but by the end I was pretty fond of their role in the story. Episode 8,
I usually don't care much for flashbacks, but it confirmed for me my favorite pairing was probably Marty and Del
so I ended up enjoying it a lot, too. But for me it mostly shined and was by far the most tense during the first two episodes and the last 2.

Really great show.
First and last episode were fantastic, the rest of season was also really good but as many other Netflix shows had a bit of a problem in terms of pacing. Some events would IMO be dealt with too fast psychologically speaking, so some of the reactions from the characters seem believable but happen a bit too fast.
The kid going First Blood was over the top.
HUGE props to the show-runners for ending the season without cliffhangers.

Petty is plain psycho.
Not sure how the local police
sacked agent Trevor in episode 10
. That did seem a bit out there.

Also, i just learned that the name of the actor playing Jonah is...Skylar.
Coincidence ? I think NOT !

I fucking loved this show. Just finished it last night. Jason Bateman surprised the hell out of me (and daaammmnnn he looks good, aging like a fine wine) with both his acting AND his directing. Laura Linney was perfect as Wendy. Only downside is Charlotte, and I think that was mostly the actress. I think Charlotte's reactions were totally normal given the situation, but the actress really, really bothered me.

Same with Petty. I've seen Jason Butler Harner in a bunch of other stuff and I've hated him in everything, too. Not sure if he just always plays assholes or I just don't like his face, haha.

Ruth (and Julia Garner) was the standout. That's how you do character development. She's the perfect example of a *strong* (I hate to use that word) female character. She's flawed, but she's smart, tenacious, and her character grows and develops a lot over the season.

Like a lot of other people, I absolutely loved the realism. People reacted like you would expect them to, which was at time frustrating (vague later season spoilers)
like Marty telling people what was going on, telling them to not say anything and them then blabbing about it - the situation with Sam and his mom comes to mind
. It's a very human reaction.

I hope there's a season two. I'm curious to see where things go with Rachel. I'm awful, but I was totally rooting for
her and Marty to get together
, haha.

That's what I absolutely loved about this show and Marty, he actually told others what was going on. So many situations in other shows and movies can be avoided by just taking the time to explain things. Like him telling the preacher what will happen to his wife and baby if he stops going out on the water, flipping out when Rachel wouldn't listen to him when he wanted to explain what he was doing and why it was so important. Doing so had a whole different set of consequences though, just as they would in real life.

I think I'm at episode 5. The pilot episode was insanity. The subsequent episodes never quite quite gripped me like that. I'm pegging it at 7/10, so far.

Kinda just seems like he's comically evil right now.

The guy is in prison, which means he's probably not that smart at the end of the day, so it's not hard to envisage him thinking the solution to all their problems is for Ruth to kill Marty, steal the money and sit tight until he's released. The impression I got was that he is simply physically dangerous, given his brothers feared him, not that he's some criminal mastermind.

More praise for the writing and dialogue between characters. Good decision making, so rare in drama shows. Liked it.

This show is so good. The only thing I dislike was.
JUST GO TO WITNESS PROTECTION!
Like good god guys. Also I feel like the hispanic guys
who were with the main guy, didn't pull out guns and shoot the red-necks at all?
Okay.

Okay.

They stated that the cartel he was working for was the 2nd biggest. You can't run from that shit and they will be on the run for the rest of their lives. Remember when they finally got their fake idenities at the end? They weren't willing to start a new life. As for your 2nd question the body guard guy got shot too. And he got shot because he called them red necks which they weren't. They were hillbilllys. Red necks are ruth and here people if I'm understanding the story correct.

Why isn't there a Star Wars RPG? And wouldn't James Bond make for a pretty good FPS?
Episode 7
I wish the daughter drowned. And her brother too somehow.
God, the kids are annoying as hell.

Just finished episode 5, loving it so much.
The pilot was one of the best I've ever seen.
I hated Ruth at the beginning, but I'm starting to like her.
Still hate Charlotte tho.
