Hi guys. My grandma is (was) staying at an hotel in orlando, today they kicked her out. She is a foreigner and we do not have a home in the us

The power was out and there was no water today at said hotel, they kicked every guest out and all they offered was a list of other hotels around.

Is there any legal measure she could take against the hotel chain?

What exactly are the grounds for legal action? If they kicked every guest out, it's not discrimination.

I'm so confused. I stayed in the hospital in fort Myers, came home and we didn't lose power. No flooding. We were some of the first people hit but we seemingly got spared. I'm so sorry for anyone who lost anything

Probably by law they have to. It's unsanitary and you can't have guests in a building like that.

I once worked at a company that tried to make everyone work with no running water. The maintenance came in and forced everyone to leave.

So, in other words, they closed the hotel for repairs?

It must be scary to have that happen in a foreign country, but she just needs to find another hotel. Maybe up north?

Drove around with my family looking for a place to eat that was open around Kissimmee/Orlando. We found a place called Pizza A Cone. They make pizza...as cones. And also regular personal pizzas, and lasagna. And tons of frappes.

Still no power, it's been out since 10 pm or so.

Not even some flickers like some others have gotten in he thread. It's not often I have to go out in Florida because it's cooler than the inside.

Lost power at around 9/10 last night. Still no sign of it coming back.

Any gaffer reports from Northern Naples / Bonita Beach area? My aunt has a condo around there off of Vanderbilt. She's home in Indiana at the moment but we're all kind of wondering how that area fared.

No, they're required by law to shut down after 24+ hours of no power/water. As long as they refund her for any future nights, there's nothing she can do. Hopefully she finds a place to stay

It's for her own safety. Now if she was a guest at the hotel and had reservations for a duration longer than the impact of the hurricane, then I could understand asking for compensations on the unused days. Most hotels have been giving automatic refunds for guests. But she needs to move, and the hotel/staff need to focus on their own needs. Evacuating non residents always goes into effect days before resident evacuations. She didn't heed their warnings.

Problem was that she used a travel point system to stay there (no refunds),so she would have to spend money she didnt bring with her to that trip. Luckily she's staying at someone's house now.

Picturing a pizza in a cone is making me want to puke lol no wonder it was accessible. Do you have pictures? If not, I gotta know if they shove ingredients in a cone shaped crust

I've heard that Doc's Beach House survived just fine and it's right on the beach where Bonita Beach Rd takes a turn to the North (NW corner of this pic). But it's hard to say for sure since there's definitely some waist-high flooding in areas of Bonita Springs and Naples.

My power stayed on all throughout the storm and into today when it was completely clear. Then it just got turned off randomly and been like that since about noon. I would guess they are repairing something but damn.

Thanks. Her Condo's in Bay Forest, close to Audubon on that map.

Doc's looks pretty good for as close to the water as it is. I found this tweet with some pictures.

I was checking out the house I lived in for two years as a young child on Google Maps. I didn't really pay attention to geography back then, but I'm surprised how close we really were to the beach. We lived in a town called Wellington, which is just about half an hour west of West Palm Beach (why is it on the east coast?) and I do remember we went there a lot. There is a canal system not far from the backyard, and though I'm not sure if they were being serious, my parents and others told me not to venture too close to it because there could be alligators. I wonder how bad it got down there with the canal so close.

I also was surprised my elementary school was so close to my house. All the familiar permanent buildings from when I lived there are still there and quite nostalgic. However, when I lived there all the regular classrooms were crappy modular buildings. Now they seem to have a series of odd looking pentagonal buildings scattered about.

Edit: And jeeze, it seems like almost every single house EXCEPT my old house has a pool now.

Have had no power since about 2:30 in North Druid Hills GA, but things don't look too bad outside aside from raining all day

Circumstances like this usually have greater flexibility than if she had to cancel for a personal emergency. She can still contact them about getting points back or transferring the points to another hotel stay. For some one not accustomed to hurricanes, she should've gotten out of dodge than worrying about some lousey points.

In laws place in Marco (near tigertail) survived with little damage (besides stuff that always breaks in hurricanes like pool cages, etc). They just had new windows and a metal roof put on and they held. The lower than expected surge definitely saved them.

I heard verizon and at&t were upping people to unlimited plans in affected areas for the month.

Can confirm Verizon changed me to Unlimited as well.

Power is on, in Lakeland for about an hour. I heard an audible cheer from everyone in our apartment complex when it came back on.

This was my first hurricane and I'm not looking forward to the next one.

Still no power. No ETA on fix in Longwood. Been driving around all day since there is no cell reception in my neighborhood as the cell tower blew. Haven't seen a single power truck

Power was out for nearly 20 hours in Windermere. Was a bit worried since the utilities company said to plan for an extended outage of up to a week. Can't imagine what that would have been like.

Other than that, a lot of downed trees in the neighborhood and the nearby conservation area is completely flooded.

Cousin talked with the power company and was told it could possibly take a week to come back. Tavares seems like it didn't lose power, said that every restaurant there has crazy long lines.

Reporting in from Orlando.

Stayed with my in-laws off Chickasaw Trail. They never lost power but internet was out most of the day. Some shingles gone but otherwise no structural damage. Massive tree uprooted in their backyard that fell into the neighbors yard. Fences down.

Same news from my parents house in Conway.

When the Orange County curfew lifted my wife and I went back to the house we are selling (supposed to have closed this past Friday) near Sea World. No damage whatsoever, thank god. Power was out but it's an empty house so whatever.

When driving down the 528 saw tons of trees down. Quite a few of them pulled up the soil with the roots. Lots of billboards and business signs blown out. Also noticed a car rental place near the McDonalds off Tradeport had a collapsed awning.

Lots of traffic lights still out and people being idiots driving through them without stopping. Many friends still without power and some have home damage. We were lucky.

At my in-laws in Baldwin Park, brought the kids here to sleep cause they have power.
Got a Duke Energy call that power may be out for days.
Gonna go back home to Avalon Park soon to check if power is out. This sucks but if this is the extent of it I'm cool with it. My workplace in Research Park doesn't have power so I'm not going in tomorrow...
