So, I wasn't sure where to turn with this, but I figured I'd ask here since ideologies align and all that. I was out today for my Wife's birthday, and while she was busy shopping I was checking the news. I found this story in my facebook feed about a coffee shop shutting down after the mother's daughter (as manager) made some anti-police statements that cost them business.

In the comments were people mentioning something about "Turtleboy Sports Strikes again!" I went digging and discovered it's a conservative online rag that promotes the 'real news' for the Massachusetts area (Basically news with a conservative twist on it.) That in and of itself is unremarkable. What has me more concerned is pieces like this that argue that Turtleboy Sports is actively engaging in mob harassment, which based on the coffee story, was likely fanned by the spin Turtleboys had put on it.

I know there's not really a lot to be done about online harassment, I know there's plenty of other online harassment groups, campaigns, etc that go untouched. But I guess this rag hits close to home, since I live in MA and feel like it's libel to attack and incite people to harass those around me. I'd like to believe I can do something against it since this is more local and targeted to my area than others. So I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts for what I can do to perhaps combat this disturbing group.

I've already reported it to Facebook (haha) and plan to do so for their Twitter account (haha) but I know neither will actually get anything done. I was thinking my best bet would be to perhaps dig up as much online evidence as possible and try to tip off some newspaper (NY Times, Boston Globe, more local outlets, etc.) in hopes that maybe they'd do a proper story and shed some light on this? If anyone has any better ideas I'm open. I just feel frustrated with the way things are in this country and I'd like, for once, to be able to do something to stop awful people from doing awful things.

Facebook harassment of coffee shops and galleries are more widespread than people think it is, although I don't know how well it is is coordinated.

Mia Love starts out with a 48-42 lead over Ben McAdams.

Gee I wonder if anyone is going to comment on why such a heavily GOP district is competitive or if pundits are going to ignore the racist, sexist Mormon elephant in the room like usual.

If you look at Matheson’s 2012 victory, he won by running up the score in Salt Lake City. McAdams being the mayor would probably end up with a similar map.

I always feel a little uncomfortable when I think about this race. I hate that we might win largely because the racists there can't stomach voting for a black woman again.

Well-oiled machine...

Blindsided Trump officials scrambling to develop opioid plan

President Donald Trump overrode his own advisers when he promised to deliver an emergency declaration next week to combat the nation’s worsening opioid crisis.

“That is a very, very big statement,” he said Monday. “It's a very important step. ... We're going to be doing it in the next week.”

Blindsided officials are now scrambling to develop such a plan, but it is unclear when it will be announced, how or if it will be done, and whether the administration has the permanent leadership to execute it, said two administration officials.
Trump’s off-script statement stunned top agency officials, who said there is no consensus on how to implement an emergency declaration for the drug epidemic, according to interviews with officials from the White House, a half dozen federal agencies, state health directors and lobbyists.
Trump had previously promised an emergency declaration in August, after his handpicked opioid commission headed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie made it an urgent recommendation. But the commitment quickly got bogged down in White House infighting and concerns about the order’s scope and cost.

I mean yeah, it sucks. But I mostly blame the Republican Party for actively cultivating racist, sexist voters and turning that into their party platform.

I think if I were Mia Love I would take it as a gut check as to whether supporting this party is the right thing to do or not. I can’t imagine how many of her colleagues in the House disrespect and revile her.

What the fuck is this 1a show on NPR?

They had someone on who said Rand Paul won't vote for tax cuts since they did not increase the deficit enough.

Not a caller, someone they actually brought in.
The host was surprised, but no one corrected him.

I thought NPR was better than that.

They have goofy ass right wingers all the time and usually just do the both sides opinion thing where they let them air out their talking point and yeah it's infuriating and I just switch to something else.

It's produced by Wisconsin Public Radio, which has taken a pretty sharp turn right recently imo. WPR as a whole is very big on roundtable discussion format and call-in shows, so they feel particularly obligated to bring in "all sides", especially since so many callers on air somehow call out the station for moving to the left. It makes me miss the stoic professionalism of WBEZ. Central Time is the only reliably strong WPR show and even it isn't all that great, compared to stuff like All Things Considered/Morning Update. I wish the NPR stations here aired more of the big national shows :(

Have no fear, PoliGAF--republicans have figured out the cure for the looming retirement crisis:

Proposals floating around Washington to cap the amount that Americans can contribute before taxes to 401(k) plans and individual retirement accounts are unsettling professionals in the retirement industry.

Republicans are looking for ways to generate revenue to support broad reductions in individual tax rates. One idea is to limit the amount of pretax money households can sock away for retirement saving. Such a move would likely generate significant political blowback but it hasn’t been explicitly ruled out, stirring worry among industry lobbyists.

Also, that Niger thread in OT is insane. This is way worse than Benghazi, and if democrats focus on this it could cause huge problems for Trump and republicans.

For SURE.

Pentagon/Army gave faulty intel to the team, did not have an armored vehicle transport, no air support and no evacuation plan. All the while going to a known militant hotspot. Contractor forgets LaDavid's body. This is a scandal.

Jesus Christ, I just read it after you pointed it out. If this really doesn't hurt them with voters it's only that much more infuriating that even the death of a man like David Johnson can be politicized into nothing because everything is just fucking sports teams now. Doesn't matter who lives and who dies, just who gets the gold cup of victory every 2-4 years.

Niger is what Trey Gowdy wished Benghazi was. But watch that motherfucker slink into a gutter hole he crawled out of.

The fact Mia Love hasn’t gotten the memo that her party’s fucking racist after so many closer than wanted elections makes her an idiot. Like you can’t be that self hating to not get the message by now.

This morning a senior Pentagon guy was asked, bluntly after he said la David was "absolutely not left behind": "Are you saying US troops remained on the ground for the entire recovery operation?"

His response was HORSESHIT:

"Yes, US troops, sometimes French< Niger, and sometimes the contractor were on the ground at all times, sometimes all three."

Um. Yeah so you did in fact leave him behind.

Allegedly having some people hang out with your body for 2 days while your friends were evacuated is sorta a literal application of what "left behind" means. I guess that sounds marginally less awful than saying that just forgot about him and abandoned him in the field.

She knows. Tim Scott knows as well, so does Will Hurd. But they're in so deep now and being in Congress is a ticket to making a lot of money down the line, especially as one of the token minorities.

Bad enough that Trump is literally everything the GOP claimed Obama was, now we have event that's everything they claimed Benghazi was? JFC, their projection is affecting the very fabric of reality now : /

A win's a win when you're in the minority. As long as McAdams doesn't embrace it for his campaign strategy. Same with whoever runs against Scott in D.C. in 2020.

South Carolina, damn autocorrect.

They probably have the mindset of changing the party from inside. Never works out I bet. I personally think that if and when the party swifts further to white nativism and white supremacy minority Republicans of many groups will be one of the first causalities.

Or are they trying to walk right back up to controversy again, in a more defensible way. Don't give them credit for backpedaling back to dog whistling.
The person tweeting is talking about holocaust denial, their personal history as a Jewish kid, and trying to get at "6 million killed" being over a third of the living Jewish population at the time.

The person tweeting is very bad at understanding how to use twitter, he's unironically recreating that Patton Oswalt bit from a few years back where he'd pair two statements together, but one half would be absolutely horrible without the context of the other.

Scaramucci isn't tweeting this.

Bingo, stop giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Sun Sentinal obtaining video of Rep. Wilson on the 2015 ceremony is the oppo we needed. It directly contradicts Kelly. He is in deep shit now.

Well look at that! Kelly is just another fake news peddling Trumper Enabler!

And he did all of this while letting Trump politicize his dead son. I am sure his daughter in law appreciate honoring him in this way.

The timeline is a jumbled mess w/ self-RTs all over. They legit don't understand how to use twitter- normally you would thread something like this, but instead it's a bunch of scattered thoughts with one really awful easy to RT out of context tweet.

I'm not playing Devil's Advocate here, anti-semitism doesn't make any sense w/ explaining this.
#DidYouKnow that in 1939, the core Jewish population reached its historical peak of 17 million (0.8% of the global population).

#DidYouKnow that more than 35% of the core Jewish population was killed in the Holocaust?

While most people know the six million number very few know the 11 million and 17 million numbers.

In case you aren't following this is Lance Laifer tweeting.

I grew up w many men & women who had numbers on their arms. I named one of my children after a family member who perished in the Holocaust.

I am Jewish. This picture from kindergarten was taken when my dad served in the @usairforce https://instagram.com/p/BJB4oCGgPpA/ and we lived in Ohio.

For homework we strongly suggest the book "Buried by The Times" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buried_by_the_Times ...

Trump doesn't like apologizing. He's going to toss Kelly if his office come out with "Gen. Kelly misremembered the events.." bs line.

Yes it does when put into context. This is actually a Milo tactic. You bring up a subject in a defensible, above board way. It serves a couple of purposes. It gives you cover, it gives you attention, and, most importantly, it carves out a little arena in the public square for deplorable fucks to slither in and show their asses.

He gets to grow his audience with Nazis without sticking his neck out and as a bonus, he gets to have people like you defend him for it. Stop giving a twitter account that denied the fucking Holocaust the benefit of the doubt.

But he was sure about what he said the first time and that was something different.

So he said his first criticism without any proof and now is 'stunned' by the video?
No, he was "stunned" in the first time he brought up the incident, that Rep. Wilson somehow bragged about securing funding for the FBI building - which never happened.

Now its a shift toward kelly being stunned about Rep. Wilson correctly mentioning that she obtained approval to name the building after the slain FBI agents. Something which every Republican in Florida as well as Comey applauded her for.
