Go into the settings from the launcher and turn those off? You'll also lose tessellation, though.

Nah, if you turn those off it just runs in DX9, and if you enable DX11 through the ini file they turn on automatically. I tried setting all HBAO/MVSS settings to 0 in the ini file, and my framerate was still in the 30s, too, so I have no idea.

Using BoobPhysics101's tweaks and setting tessellation down to Normal just improved my FPS substantially. Highly recommended.

The Patch is out:

Release notes:
We have just released a patch for Batman: Arkham City PC that provides fixes a variety of DX 11 issues, as well as fixes for a few other non-DX 11 related issues. The DX 11 fixes will apply for the majority of players, however, some specific Steam users will experience issues when running under DX 11.
With this latest patch, Steam users with the following Windows Operation Systems should avoid running the game under DX 11 until further notice:
- Windows Vista 32 bit
- Windows 7 32 bit

Users running Windows 7 32 bit or Windows Vista 32 bit should ONLY use DX 9 settings until a future patch that addresses this specific issue is released. We are actively working to address the remaining issue tied to DX 11 for users running 32 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7.
Major fixes that this patch addresses are listed below.
- Performance / hitching issues have been greatly improved for running in DX 11.
- An issue with players running out of Video Memory or encountering a Rendering Thread Exceptions has been address. This was primarily affecting 32-bit Operating Systems.
- A progression block after defeating Ra’s Al Ghul has been fixed. This was issue occurred primarily on lower end computer setups and described as Batman not readying his Reverse Batarang.
- A crash that occurred when scrolling between the Character Bios and Arkham City Stories has been fixed.
- A crash that occurred when selecting “Press Start” immediately when available at the Title Screen has been fixed. The issue was described as crashing/hard locking around the DLC (Downloadable Content) check.
Thank you all for your patience.

I hope the next patch is already in the pipeline.

I should really OC my GTX 460 1GB and 2500k but the patch helped immensely with DX11.

Everything maxed save for FXAA(high) and physx(normal)

Nope, Steam.

I'm downloading it now, really hope it fixes the issues I was having. It was completely unplayable at single digit FPS pre-patch.

Well at least I found out I can reuse my GFWL CD keys on my US account for some reason while trying to update the game.

Did you know Halo invented the FPS?

sigh i was having that issue too.....and it still dips to single digit FPS when I get to harley quinn at the church. I guess I'll gamefly this for 360 :/

edit: wow now it makes freaking sense. I looked at MSI afterburner and the game is only using 20-30% of my GPU.

Turning AA to be 16x rather than 16xQ made a rather significant framerate difference for me. Try that if you don't already have it set for the other.

Great, means I should be able to play the game now, because before it crashed with that error every 5 minutes.

With DX11? If tessellation's on High, it'll knock my framerate right down to the single digits near brick walls. Normal fixes that. Dunno if that'd help any.

My performance was significantly improved, but it still didn't feel.... right. Along with patchy audio, out of sync audio, the poor performance and the game crashed on me twice in about 15 minutes.

I've e-mailed for a refund, I know I won't get any response but at least they'll realise it's a big issue to release such a shitty port. I'm tempted to nab it on PS3 now.

Tried pretty much everything I could, and the only way I can get 60fps in DX9 mode is by turning of triple-buffering and V-sync in the Nvidia control panel. Turning on DX11 to normal drops me to 35FPS, adding PhysX drops me to 20ish fps.

Also now I'm getting random drops to the desktop at start-up, sometimes it crashes with a render exception error.

Yeah, not what I was expecting here. Go fuck yourself Rocksteady. I might come back to the game next year after this shit is actually fixed.

Use FXAA with DX11. It nets me 30fps more over 8xMSAA.

Very glad for this one. That happened to me far too frequently, very obnoxious.

i still apparently hit a minimum of 4 fps but it happens during the transition from the first area of the benchmark to the second. my average in DX11 is way up. this is with FXAA and everything on high. i'll probably drop tesselation down to normal if i run into the brick wall issues, but at last, now i can start my play through!

SO anyone know why the game won't see that I'm logged into GFWL, thus keeping me from actually playing the game? None of my other GFWL games do this. It is very annoying...

I'm getting this message when the game tries to patch:

Failed installing title update. See log at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\GFWLive\Install\Logs\titleupdate.log for details

So I check the log and see this.

This property must have been set using a custom action. HR:0x00000000
Could not find game install folder
To manually set folder, run: "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Updates\57520fa0\Content\Setup.exe" /f "<path to game folder>"

Clicking on Setup.exe from that folder gives me the first error message, failed installing the update. What I'm confused is /f "<path to game folder>" How do I do that?

wait, the game has problems in DX9?

Yes it stutters a ton when I fly around in the open world, though it seems to be a UE3 problem.

Also you guys should test how it runs now in the actual game and not use the game's benchmark tool. The benchmark used to say I get 59 fps average but it never took into account all of the crazy stuttering I was having.

Run that command line in start->run or with a command line prompt (aka dos window).

You'll have to replace the part after /f with where the game is. If it's installed with steam, it should be something like this:
"C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Updates\57520fa0\Content\Setup.exe" /f "c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\batman2"

A variant might be:
"C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Updates\57520fa0\Content\Setup.exe" /f "c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\batman2\binaries"

I have the green man gaming version of the game. I found the install path and everything was going smoothly, the game patched, clicked Finish on the wizard. I was then greeted with this:
BatmanAC.exe - System Error
The program can't start because steam_api.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Once again, I have the green man gaming version of the game, this sucks.

Yup I just experienced what I was talking about. Benchmark said I get 57 average with DX11 on, I get in the game and it's constant stuttering this time. Fraps was saying about 35 average.

Back to DX9 I guess. Hope some of the stuttering is gone there.

Oh yikes, that doesn't sound good. I can remember there was a mistake with the Lost Planet 2 patch where the steam got securom added while it shouldn't have that and that broke everything. Would it pretty bad if something similar has happened here.

i agree, i finished the game a few weeks ago and loved it overall, but for a game called Arkham CITY, the city parts were sorta broken due to the stuttering. I could effectively get from point A to point B, but all the stuttering took me out of the experience and reminded me that i was playing a video game. It certainly made those sections significantly less enjoyable than they should have been. The levels (caves, buildings, tunnels) mostly felt fine though.

I've been waiting for a patch or 2 before starting new game + and doing the challenges.

DX11 is still shit for me, with or without tesselation and with or without MSAA. Whatever they're doing with DX11, my HD5770 doesn't like it.

At least they fixed that crash that happens at 'checking for downloadable content'. That was kind of annoying.

Finally figured it out, I was missing one more folder path. This has taught me a valuable lesson: Only buy games on steam and only buy games from other vendors if they're steamworks. Fuck this manual patch bs.

alright I have a problem, when I click play, it says this game is unavailable at this time, please try again at another time???? what the hell does that mean? I have the steam version.

Yah, I haven't tested it yet but I was hoping this patch was going to fix the stuttering in the city. The game is still playable, but it's extremely annoying. I never go below 30 fps, but when flying around the city it stutters when loading in new areas. I might just rent it on 360 and beat it there, and then come back and play it on PC sometime in the future when hopefully it has been patched and maybe I have a better PC.

It is so absurd that this is an issue on PCs and not on consoles. And it is true for a lot of console ports these days. I think it's because they're just not taking advantage of the RAM available on PC.

So after the patch I'm getting around 40fps in the city and 60fps in-doors. DX11 with tess at normal, 1080p, 2xMSAA, and boob's config.

e8400 with a 6870.

quick edit
I can't quite make it out but the game looks so much nicer in dx11 and it's not the tessellation.

I don't know, but mine crashed 5 times in a row yesterday, 3 times it didn't even launch before it gave me an error and the 2 last it crashed as soon as I "hit start". Had I not finished the game already I'd be really pissed. Fucking game.

Oh nice, got the same cpu but different card (560 Ti). Can't wait to try DX11. Did you have to do Boob's config over again after patching?

Sounds like UE3 PC issues. Did disabling level streaming help at all? That solves it in other games with the same engine that had it much worse in many cases, i.e. Alpha Protocol.
