It should say on the box whether the game saves to a memory card or to the Vita game card. If it saves to the game card, you can't backup your save file and thus you would have yourself a "Pokémon situation".

Yeah, but it seems that it can be disabled in some parts, according to the manual:

You can capture and save screenshots of many screens, including scenes during gameplay. To take a screenshot, press the PS button and the START button at the same time.
You can view the captured screenshots in (Photos).‎

- To take a screenshot, a memory card for the PS Vita system must be inserted in your PS Vita system.
- It might not be possible to take screenshots in some applications, or in some parts of applications.

You press the PS Button and Start together. It apparently works across the system, in apps too (although the manual has a caveat that some apps may not allow it in certain contexts - e.g. ones with privacy concerns, perhaps)
