Wow at the posters clambering over themselves to get a dig in against launch titles on a new system.

Not up to par with a PS3? ...... the fact that its being compared against a home console rather than the rival handheld gaming system speaks volumes.

I don't know if anyone's necessarily doing that. I played it and it was honestly that bad. It kind of reminded me of Peace Walker. I've seen gameplay videos on Youtube where it looks a lot better so I was caught off guard. I wouldn't exaggerate because I was looking forward to this title the most...but I was really disappointed by the amount of jaggies and aliasing on it. :(

Take this video for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utByf7I0IoM

And imagine it looking just more muddy and with aliasing all over the place.

I think if you go more out, it plays that sound last. If you're reading this on the stream.

nvm maybe you figured it out.

Allow me expand on my earlier statements and give you some personal context. My background is a relatively shooter oriented one. I've played all three Uncharteds, 1 and 3 on hard and 2 on Crushing. I however didn't notice the aiming problem in 3 but I also knocked the sensitivity up to max before I started playing. I also have a background in other shooters.

The graphics seem to be full of aliasing. This is especially apparent when in motion and on the character models. The few cutscenes I've seen aren't up to ND's standards also. The texture work is pretty good for the most part. This however is not the equal of DF. It's somewhere below mainly due to the previously noted aliasing. Character models aren't up to PS3 levels also.

Now on to the aiming. It's a mess and that's with all motion controls disabled. I'll try tweaking it to see if it gets better but the fluidity of motion, speed, and overall crispness is not on par with the Uncharteds on the PS3. It honestly feels worse than DF.

DF feels much better than unpatched Uncharted 3.

Got all that I wanted at LABI on the Shinjuku station - no lines, Vitas without preorders and Amazon prices (got my 16gb card for 4980 yen)

You can take screenshots and upload them here

Someone posted this screen on another forum

That's sub native res for sure. Resistance Vita is sub native res (based on the screenshots) too as is probably Uncharted Golden Abyss.

It's a shame that Sony are allowing this to happen because upscaling stands out like a sore thumb on a handheld fixed pixel display (even more so than on a HDTV, since everything that's full 720p is upscaled anyway)

I would've rather have seen them use a lower res screen if they couldn't pull off quality visuals at the Vita's native resolution. 3DS games look sharper than this :(

Revelations is always compared to RE5, and it handles the comparison pretty well. That's a second gen 3DS game though.

Damn, when Vita was announced I was hoping this kind of shit wouldn't happen on a handheld. I can tolerate it on the 3DS for BC purposes, but on native games it's quite annoying. I'd prefer a lower resolution screen (800x400) if all games ran at native.

That makes no sense. A launch game, especially considering a game like Hot Shots Golf, shouldn't be running @ a resolution lower than the native one. I think that maybe aliasing is the problem here.

look at the square and circle button displaying on the screenshot though. that couldn't be aliasing, could it? i'm no expert on the subject though.

Please, now that there are som JGaffers here. Is 11:00 in Japan and we still don't know how the different accounts are managed. I know that all of you only want to play with the games that you already bought, but, please, it will be very useful if you check the account.

With clear steps:

1.- Download anything from your main PSN account (free game or demo). Factory reset (taking out first the memory cards). Login with another japanese account (because the Vita is not activated for other region PSN). If you have a HK account, even better.

2.- Check if you can download a demo or free application in this new account but with the same card. Check if it's working. If not, use another card to download the demo / free app and check if it works.

3.- Factory reset again (taking out first the memory cards) and login again to the previous account (and the initial card). Check if you keep the saves and you are still able to play the demos / free games that you already have without download them again.

4.- Post the results :)

I never get salty cause I'm on the winning team :)

ugh so many vultures circling Vita threads -_-;

I miss the Gamefan levels of enthusiasm for gaming these days.. I <3 handheld gaming and this system looks to me like a childhood dream come true.

Edit: wow that native Hot Shots screenshot looks bad.. is it the PSP version? I am confused.

Super Street Fighter 3D holds up very well against its console counterparts as well (and that was a launch title)

The only major downgrade (aside from resolution/AA) was the lack of background animations (which has also carried over to UMvsC3 Vita, so it probably wasn't a technical limitation so much as rushed development if the Vita game suffers from the same issue)

Could we get some screenshots of various Vita games in here? (that way we can see if they're sub native res or not)

Eagerly awaiting battery tests too!

Someone should feel bad about sending dev kits as late as April. Oh wait, first parties had them before. Terribad looking third party games, incoming.

Did you play any other games? Were the jaggies/aliasing thing only noticeable on Uncharted?
The only game I've played on the Vita was Little Big Planet, and I thought that looked fantastic. I don't remember noticing jaggy/aliasing issues with that game, maybe I'm not too sensitive to that kind of thing. I guess what I want to find out is if the jaggy complaint is something consistent over all PSvita games, or if its just Uncharted having this issue.

Probably the demos - videos that we already saw of Uncharted are done with debug machines that may have better specs (specially memory) than the retail machines.

I think this is just the case of PowerVR's makes-consoles-obsolete mobile GPUs not being all mighty as promised. Hot Shots Golf at least uses 2X MSAA which dodges most of the aliasing.

So, one thing that I'm still in doubt... is the Vita region locked? If this comes with so many languages and if I can tie my PSN account and download US games on the JAP unit, importing looks tempting... right?

Pretty sure it isn't region locked unless they changed something that we don't know about

No one reads my OP :( It's region-free for game cards.

I'm hoping that it's just the screenshot rendering that's making HSG look like that.

Nope, the image is full of green which is the color that gets most bits in a JPEG. However, remember that the Vita has a higher DPI than most computer monitors, so the image should look much smaller than you're probably seeing right now.

It's not quite the same, but try viewing it in a high-res smartphone like the iPhone 4 and it should look closer to what it looks on the real thing.

Could this mark the first time a Sony system over-promises only to under-deliver graphically?
