Sadly missed out on the signature edition but I was able tosnag a collectors edition today, just get the guys to sign it at comiccon this year. With that and the guide coming now its just the wait that's sucks.

I do think I may switch my build plan to might/fineese though as I'm really diggin the greatsword bow combo and the arrow storm and multishot skills look awesome. I did not like bows at first but the more I use it the more I like it. Compliments the GS well imo. Plus the fineese skills are pretty awesome. Saw a vid of the gambit skill and it looks really useful against groups and doubles as pretty boggart exploding fireworks.

Gambit is the primary reason I want to play a stealth class first.

Yeah it looks pretty damn sweetn as do many of the finesse abilities, going to be tough to make choices the first gobecause I think all of the trees offer some cool/useful stuff. I don't want to go the jack route though because then you can't gain the abilities I really want.

I finally got the demo to work. Had to do some crazy VPN stuff, but I was able to get the PC demo and play it to unlock the PC ME3 gear. I swear, these companies really make us jump through some crazy hoops. It's all good, though. The demo is awesome and I can't wait to play the actual game. The main story is looking pretty cool as well. Yep, only two more weeks to go.

In terms of best classes in the game.

Warlord and the Jack of All trades class look to be the two most broken.

Is that reallyaccurate though? I mean with the jack destiny you get all the weapon masteries except bows I think but you lose out on a ton of abilities, also depending on how the loot requirements are could end up with the least useful gear overall. The last stand ability sounds alittle broken I agree but I think its a chance based thing because I don't think the abilities from top destinies are activated manually, except blink for sorc and sorc hybrids

I think it's simply awesome that you can diversify and get buffs for it. Most RPGs make you insanely weak if you diversify your points too much.

Played the 360 and PS3 versions again tonight (on different inputs). 360 version definitely appears to be running at a significantly lower resolution. I hope we get some early reviews that point out the differences before I finally pick a copy to pre-order from Amazon. Right now I'm leaning towards PS3 simpyl because it looks much nicer.

As for class I'll begin with, it's in my avatar pic - Arcanist.

I have followed this game for a few months now. Was planning on getting it just for me but after playing the demo I decided that I can't hog all of this goodness to myself. I loved the demo so much that I reserved a copy on the 360 for my girlfriend, a copy on the PC for me and a copy for my friend on the PS3. I think I may gift it off of Steam for another friend of mine. I just have to wait until I have more money. Blowing a good chunk of my gaming budget on this game alone. I just wish there was more on youtube showing the game off. It seems I have seen everything though. Hype is starting to get a bit higher than I like it to get.

Just go online and they will ship it to you for free once you pre-order.

I don't think they ship to Canada. Even so, I doubt it'd be free internationally.
It's all good, though. I don't really want to wait for it to ship here. It tends to take a long time, way longer than it should. Ordered a book from Barnes & Noble, and it took near three weeks. Same thing when I order games, too. I got Xenoblade from the UK quicker than I get games from the US.

Hyper overwhelming. Only 11 more days!

I always start RPG's with Paladin type characters. Even though there is no Paladin character in the game (Guardian will have to suffice), I still plan on going with a Might/Sorcery build. The problem is, should I go more might or more Sorcery?

That really depends on your play-style, but don't worry about it too much. You can pay a fateweaver to redistribute your skill and ability points.
It seems magic in this game is quite powerful, so if you prefer that over melee, then it's a viable option.
Personally, I'll likely do a sorcery/finesse build, with the focus being on sorcery.

Like I said, if this is true, then i'm interested if the PS3 version will get the added post-processing effects (depth of field/motion blur) that the 360 version carries in the final build.

Last week I started the demo and got to that Hueghes guy before I had to quit because I had to go. Was pleasantly surprised at that point and it pretty much sold the game to me, out of nowhere.

Yesterday I "completed" the demo, but I'm afraid it isn't really for me after all. Doesn't appeal that much to me once you get into the "open world", and the story and quests were pretty dull. I think I'll wait for some GOTY version if I'm ever gonna buy this. (Though I said the same thing about Skyrim
which I decided I'm not buying ever
.)

I've never been interested in spells/Mage abilities in games, but Reckoning actually manages to make magic attacks satisfying. It's going to make my character build choices much more difficult than in other RPGs.

Yeah, I've never quite seen a mage class handled this way. It'll refreshing actually, since I tend to go the mage route in RPGs.

Having said that, it's a bit ironic that I'm tempted so much to go with might or finesse as well. They all seem like viable options, and most importantly, incredibly fun to use.

I think my decision will ultimately come down to the weapons I want to use, which at the moment seem to be the greatswords, faeblades, and chakrams. Crap, that didn't narrow things down at all. :\

I'm loving how you can build the class that YOU want. I've always wanted to play a plate wearing, 2-handed sword wielding warrior that can heal himself with spells AND have an arsenal of offensive spells.

So many things you can do with your character. LOVE IT!

You get one main story quest in the demo and you can't even complete it. 99 percent of what you're seeing are side quests.

Penny Arcade posted about this yesterday:

It’s perfectly fine with me; that means we can talk about Kingdoms of Amalur, which I had more or less decided wasn’t in the schedule.

That’s worth unpacking, actually: If I determined it wasn’t in my schedule, and my time is in some ways much more plastic, how many others were under the mistaken impression that they could avoid this game without consequence? This is what a demo does, publishers, if you were wondering: sell games to people. Offering a demo creates the first stage of rapport. In effect, it elicits response.

Electronic Arts has done things keyed off of purchase before: they got their “Dead Space” in my “Dragon Age,” to coin a phrase. But tying material benefits for Kingdoms and Mass Effect stuff directly to the demo, which has no cost other than the time you spend with it, and the net widens. There’s even a demo for the PC - the PC, friends! - for whistle-wetting purposes. It’s also a demo that sets you loose after its initial tutorial payload. You don’t have access to everything, but you have forty-five minutes to explore, which is interesting. I’m waiting for the retail game that absorbs my progression from the demo, but I am sometimes called an optimist.

Kingdoms of Amalur is fairly audacious, in that it tries to find a midpoint between Blizzard “lush” and Skyrim “breadth,” with combat that is immediate and kinetic and substantially less SCA. It’s a smart-ass, upstart maneuver that should have resulted in room temperature dogshit, and it didn’t. Check it out.

Also, I got my preorder in at a local store today. So hyped!!

Is the PS3 version the one to get? I usually get everything I can on 360, but the comment about lower resolution has me wary.

Did they tweak the way the char moves to be a little more 'natural' (for lack of a better term, it just feels a little off)?

Has the UI (menu, font, etc) in the full game improved from the demo?

From the EA live chat the other day, they were playing the game and the UI looked the same. Other than that, I believe the only things different between demo and release, are all of the bugs in the demo are gone.

Well, I guess the look of the UI is a step above Too Human and Divinity II. It's the garden variety slam dunked 3rd rate WRPG UI.

The way the char moves I'll have to live with, but it's pretty jacked up.

I was reading something about there being some freebies for Mass Effect 3 when you play the demo to completion. Do I have to be online to do this? Also, what is the freebie?

In theory, the game should be the same basically on every platform (well, the PC should be better, but it goes without saying), even though one of the developers said he's going to be playing the PS3 version.
I'd personally say go with the one you prefer to play on.

Yes. You have to be connected to EA servers. You get Chakram Launcher for completing the demo and watching the trailer at the end, and a special armor just playing the demo.

Yes, you have to be online. The freebies are a medieval fantasy styled armor set and a chakram gun unlock (which is sort of like a bladed disc launcher).

I thought the faux fae quest with the unique hood item was fun.

Yeah, as far as quests go in these types of games, I don't think there were any - Go kill X amount of guys or go fetch 20 of these plants in the demo. All the quests in the demo are actually kinda cool. Personal favorite being the one that
has you join the House of Ballads, turning the man back into a wolf, create a potion to help the dumb guy stop getting dumber, and recreating the ballad that summons a troll.

I don't know what game he's playing that has more interesting side-quests than these, but I'd like to play it. I love Skyrim, but the sidequests more often than not amounted to "go into cave and kill guy, bring me back item".

Well said lol

I tried running the demo the other day on Steam, and when it loaded the entire screen was black other than the minimap...Any ideas as to what the issue is here?

Guess I should probably check Steam forums, wanted to see if anyone had issues here first.

Turn off post processing and you will be fine. Ran into the same problem. Its an ATI card issue. They said it will be resolved for the final release.

I can't believe I have played through this demo 5+ times. I can't wait for the release.

Anyone know if there will be more advanced graphics options or .ini tweaks in the full version? I would like to see if I can get more out of it. There is no profile for the game in nvidia inspector so I haven't been able to mess with anything.

Audio was a mess for me on the 360 demo as many have already said. I couldn't hear what anyone had to say until 30 minutes into the demo. Also enemy encounters were very quiet & smashing boxes was just the noise of my sword.
So strange, while the 360 demo has its issues you could see so much polish in other areas.
I'm a fan of the artstyle as I think it looks fantastic.
Not a fan of the camera and character movement though.
Will probably wait for reviews but looks pretty promising.

In other words: To everyone whining about getting free stuff from merely playing a demo of two hotly anticipated games, shut up.

I really love how much steam this game has picked up over the past week or so.

well with Curts late night appearances, the Superbowl, and reviews coming up it's just going to gain even more. I'm just glad that the game is not being ignored at this point anymore, even if it's just because Big Huge Games, and 38 are amazing with their community, they deserve to be successful imo. It helps that the game seems like it's going to be pretty fantastic of course.

How long is the demo? (I wish these questions were answered in the OP.)

Over an hour easily. The first time playing you go through a tutorial section that takes around 20-30 minutes if you listen to the dialogue and watch all of the cinematics. Once you get out of that section, you have a small area to explore before you get a warning for a 45 minute timer. From there, you have that much time to play but it doesn't take into account browsing menus and dialogue. You can skip the tutorial section once you hit this spot for the first time as well.

So, PC gamers, how did you think the demo controls better? Did you prefer a xbox 360 wired gamepad or mouse + keyboard?

Mouse and keyboard for me. Since the camera isn't locked on directly to player movement, the more-precise mouse is easier to handle. This is imo of course.

I like the 360 controller more. The KBM isn't bad (and fixes problems with the camera), but I don't like the way you have to click two buttons to use a hotkey ability. You have to press "2" to highlight spell #2, and then hit RMB to actually use it.

If you could use it by just hitting the hotkey button, that would be far better. For that reason, I like the 360 controller more.

Tried the demo on the pc at my brother's place, but was unable to find the mouse so I couldn't even start my game after I created my character. Probably that black screen issue everyone's having.

Anyway, have not played this game yet, and since I am secretly anticipating diablo 3, which for me is emotionally ambiguous as it can get (addicted to diablo 2 10 years ago, but still mighty curious... you know how that goes. It's actually a good thing that I won't be able to play it on my shitty mactop) this game seems to be able to give me the diablo fix without being diablo. I hope reckoning receives straight 9's and will give me the fun without the addiction (no online helps at that). Anyone else feels like this?

Not really. I'm pretty sure I'll be addicted.
