I think that's definitely going to happen, yes.

Really?

I think it's still worth using a number/model naming system if they are actually going to do significant changes to the body and appearance. With the iPad and iPod Touch it seems more natural to go to a more generic naming convention since newer models still look the same as older ones and are mostly just upgrades to the internals.

I suspect the next iPhone will probably have a pretty significant redesign, so they may want to call it an iPhone 6 or an iPhone 4G or whatever.

Just in time for my girlfriend's birthday. She spends two hours travelling between classes on trains each day, and has wanted an iPad for a while now.

Hopefully she doesn't mind me "borrowing" it in the evenings!

I don't know what's going to happen EVER with naming. Apple have shown me time and time again, that I'd be wrong.

Point in note:
1st iPhone: iPhone
2nd iPhone: iPhone 3G
3rd iPhone: iPhone 3GS

When they announced the 4th iPhone: iPhone 4,

I SWORE that they'd never call the 5th iPhone 4GS, under the assumption that the whole use of 'S' was to bring the hardware in line with the actual generation, as well as the iOS version.

Then they brought out:

5th iPhone: iPhone 4GS.

So in what sense is the next iPhone an iPhone 5? It's the 6th iPhone. With the 6th major iOS version. Why would it be called a 5?

It makes no sense. Which probably means they'll do it, and that there is no logic or system they use other than what they feel like at the time.

Besides, they refer to the iPad 3 as the New iPad (3rd generation) in both the store and the promotional video. This is just like back in the iPod days.

I think the numbering has used up it's usefulness, and become more of a hassle than what it's worth. Look at all the handwringing over the 4S/5. They could have avoided all of that by just calling it "iPhone".

Surprisingly enough, he was nowhere to be seen! I like the guy too, but whatshisface (the fit guy who presented iPhoto, forget his name) was really awesome I think, seemed very genuinely excited in demoing.

Interestingly, Scott Forstall was not even in the promotional video. Bring back googley eyes!

Maybe it was just that the stuff announced wasn't in his area...

Maybe.... but he usually presents/leads in the 3rd party app devs to come on stage, so...

Wasn't there supposed drama between him and Tim, or am I remembering that wrong?

I would guess he'll be there for iOS 6 at WWDC, as that's his project. If he's not there for that, then maybe something's up.

the hell?

it's not called 4GS, it's 4S

Does anyone here use the Apple TV?

I'm considering ordering one in addition to my iPad 3. What I'm wondering is how easy it is to Jailbreak them as I'm primarily wanting to use it as a streaming device. I'm in the process of moving my entire DVD and Blu Ray collection to my PC as a project and that'd be great to have in another room.

Never jailbroken anything as the extra features for the iPad and phone dont really interest me, so I'm very clueless on it.

Should I be worried my order is still processing. I saw on my bank account my "available funds" amount has decreased, but my actual funds amount hasn't changed.

Mine is too, I'd imagine most peoples are they're probably so swamped, I'm not particularly worried, took me a couple damn hours to order the things though.

What is the best way to do this with iTunes compatibility? We have a large blu-ray collection and it would be great to be able to play it back on the iPad while in the air.

I'm unsure about iTunes, as I just rip to windows then use an App on the iPad that lets me play any format.

Loving the new touches in 5.1, my aging iPhone 4 feels like a new device in ways. The camera unlock actually made me smile when I found out about it.

AVPlayer HD, it cost a few bucks, can't remember, like 3-5, but it's been a very good app for me. Not sure if there's better but I can't imagine what else I'd want out of a player.

Only complaint is I love its little gestures and I find myself trying to do them when I watch Youtube and the the like to no avail. :lol

Thank you very much; I'll bear this in mind :)

iOS 5.1 Q: How the hell do you delete an photo-stream photo? It tells me the photo will only be deleted from the phone..so what's the point? How is this different than just deleting it form camera roll? I thought this update will let you completely remove individual photos from the cloud?

Handbrake is what I use. Requires a bit of fiddling, but you get precise quality.

Also, can anyone tell me when the 1080p content hits the iTunes Store? Only announcement I cared about.

I still wish Apple had made a new cover for the new iPad. Something between the iPad 1 cover and a smart cover.

I really don't like the smart cover :(

I dunno, I'd say it was expected. People guessed the resolution before the iPad 2 even came out. That's how expected it was. It's no surprise that the iPad was going to get a resolution bump at some point. It was highly expected that it was going to be something that Apple could push as Retina since the iPhone 4 and now the 4S push that feature. The iPhone doubled its resolution for 4x the pixels when it went from 3GS to 4 since it's an easy scale factor. Doing the same for the iPad seemed natural so I don't see how such a high resolution was unexpected. That's not even looking at various leaks such as icons and other stuff that got released over time. People called it a year ago but it came a year later.
People 'guessing' were mostly non-techies spouting Apple magic.

The point is there is no device with this level of screen. Moreover, no one has even shown a screen at this level with any sort of claims regarding consumer level pricing/yields.

The Garageband update wouldn't happened to have added support for USB microphones via the Camera Kit on iPhone would it? I know the iPad can do it with my Blue Snowball Mic, but my iPhone can't. It'd be great if it could now. Anyone able to test?

No way man, I think making it backwards compatible and not giving everyone yet another thing to worry about, was the better choice.

If they had come out with a new case, I guarantee you most people would not know that the old cover is compatible.

And what's there not to like about the covers? They're so simple. But hey, aren't there a bunch of really great 3rd part covers that take use of the magnet?

I don't like that they don't cover the back, I don't like that they are secured to the iPad just by magnets (as cool as it is).

I do like the open/close cover to unlock/lock feature but that's about it.

Gotta do my homework and check those 3rd party covers out...

I was thinking about this as well, but there's no reason you can't use a smart cover WITH another back cover. I'm thinking of getting something like this, just for extra 'protection' when I got out with it;

All the pre-orders were gone in like 5 minutes where I am, Hong Kong, while I was asleep. Sucks.

It's going to launch 13 hours earlier than in the US here, and it has the cheapest Apple products in the world (next to Delaware and Oregon and other sales-tax free states).
