When do we get ratings for Sky/UK?
I think they were already posted. Lemme dig them up...

- Guardian: Game of Thrones outplays Mad Men
It seems that UK audiences have more of a penchant for swords, sandals and sorcery than slick Madison avenue suits, as the series two premiere of the Sky Atlantic import attracted 522,000 viewers on Monday 2 April.

The fantasy drama, which attracted 743,000 viewers when the show launched on 18 April last year backed by a massive ad campaign, peaked with 633,000.

The average live audience for the first series of Game of Thrones was about 365,000 viewers.

I didn't mean skipping S1 and getting into S2, I just meant does this show have he legs to make it worthy of jumping into this late? Serious question.

That sounds familiar but when i recommend the books they usually respond with : nah reading is boring! WTH.
Lol, this is true a lot of the time. Yesterday someone told me they found it hard to believe the book is better than the show, in response to me saying I prefer reading the books but the show is also good.

Nope, Ros.

Anyone who thinks either of them are fat need locking up in an institution.

You'd be surprised. There are people I know that if the ribs aren't showing she's "fat". I don't get it but I just know their wrong and speaking nothing of it, lol.

Hm, that's somewhat of a drop from last season's premier. Sky is like a HBO equivalent for the UK though right, and therefore can't be compared to a "basic cable" channel like ITV1 (Downton Abbey) I'm guessing.
I'd imagine sky is a lot more popular than HBO (relatively speaking). a very significant percentage of the population have a subscription. Sky Atlantic however is a relatively new channel and isn't exactly front and centre in their portfolio so it doesn't get as much exposure as it might if they put it on Sky1. Doesn't explain the drop off though, especially since they had a pretty big ad campaign.

No Sean Bean, no watch.

Well you only have 11 episodes to catch up on. You could watch them all in a day.

Each season is only 10 episodes long.

It has probably has a bigger proportion of subscribers than HBO as AngryMoth says, but the majority of people have it for Sky Sports (which has a monopoly on football) and Sky Movies. I don't think people pay much attention to normal TV shows that are on Sky apart from Simpsons reruns if they need something to watch lol

I know they are fairly shallow points, but I must say my piece:

Carice Van Houten did not look the part for Melisandre at all when I was seeing promotional material. But she was so damn hot in her scenes in Episode 1 that I was completely won over on her.

Also Lena Headey is looking a lot better this season, as I predicted a year ago. And she continues to have great scenes. Haters be damned.

edit: ^ ahaha

Ros looks exactly like a Renaissance-era painting in that gif. She has a bit more body fat than a typical 21st century swimsuit model, but she isn't truly chubby.

I thought the second season primere was better than any episode of the first season. They are doing a nice job of distilling the key scenes in the book, quickening and intensifying the story, and then adding a few choice scenes to drive their points home.

"Power is power."

What I found interesting is how the Lord of Light cerimony was so hokey looking. It looked like bad theatre with wooden dialogue, crummy costume for M. and phoney looking magic sword. I imagine that was intensional, so that the witches claims to power can be easily dismissed.

Even though i loved the premiere, i actually felt that the premiere was one of the weaker episodes, mainly because they had to juggle so many new character introductions. The best scenes were easily those involving Cersei not in the book (Littlefinger/Joffrey scenes) and I actually really liked Robb and Jaime's scene (Love the size of the Direwolves! Even bigger than I pictured them when reading!) but I feel like new comers unfamiliar with the source may need at least half an episode devoted to Davos, Stannis and Melisandre over at Dragonstone for instance
before they leave to parlay with Renly at least
.

I am sure this will be remedied in future episodes as they just had so many new characters to introduce.

Aiden Gillen finally has a scene where he actually conveys some subtlety in episode two. Yay.

Bronn is indead amazing and I can say that without posting a Youtube video of him from the 80s singing 50s songs in his musical duo...or how most Bronn comments end up devolving into. :p

But yeah, he's an awesome actor.

I have never read any of the books. Just bought "Clash of Kings", but I am a little apprehensive about starting it without having read the first book. Even though I saw season 1 of the show, should I still read "Game of Thrones" or will I be able to follow book 2 pretty decently?

I think you will be fine. You will be missing out on some stuff, but I think the show pretty much covered every major event from the first book, and there were no major characters missing from the series. I still recommend reading it, but you will not be lost by skipping it.

I've read all the books. When reading them I never think about the characters accents. Why do people have so many gripes about this with the show? I'm not trying to be a dick, just trying to understand.

Yeah I don't really get caught up in that either.

I will say though (haven't watched ep 2) that Melisandre's voice didn't quite connect with me in episode one. She looks the part, carries herself for the part, and delivers the lines for the part, but her actually voice is unimpressive to me. I think she should have a deeper, commanding, almost majestic voice to fit the character. She did not really have that in the first episode.

I guess the quote above is about Emilia Clarke? If so what you have been smoking?

I don't think it's possible to think that about Emilia.

I told myself I wouldn't watch ep 2 until Sunday, but my resolve is weakening.

@Shamrock and everyone else who skips the first book:

1) The first Arya chapter from A Clash of Kings was the last Arya scene in Season 1.
2) When A Clash of Kings opens, the Night's Watch hasn't ridden out beyond the Wall yet. They moved that scene up to the Season 1 finale.
3) Some of the dialogue from the Catelyn/Jaime conversation in the Season 1 finale is from A Clash of Kings.

Remember these things, and you won't be confused. #2 especially might be very confusing for someone who just picks up the book after watching the first season. "What? Why are Jon and Sam still in Castle Black? I thought they rode out at the end of the first book!?!"

I'm surprised it hasn't been announced by now. Either the Luck debacle has affected how HBO announces renewals or HBO and the showrunners haven't reached an agreement on details like money and number of episodes yet.

Season 3 announcements for Boardwalk Empire and Treme occured a few weeks in their second season runs. So maybe this is similar. But given how long it takes to produce the show you'd think they would want to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

I think it might be the episode count that is holding things up. This wouldn't be a typical Season 3 announcement if they do 3+4 together which would be the way to handle things. It's guaranteed to be pretty much their next True Blood at this point. I don't think anyone should be worried about renewals until season 6/7.
