Just got back from a 11:50 showing. Theater was about 75-80% full. I didn't really have a good time unfortunately. And I love Joss Whedon's stuff (except for Dollhouse). Not sure if I just spoiled myself too much or if the Nolan Batman films have made it really difficult for me to enjoy the traditional superhero flick. Everything just seemed really cliched and tired, even
Colson's death
.

Wait. What? This was actually in a comic? What the hell point could she have possibly been trying to make?

Not baiting, just hurtin' cause its true. He knows it too and hence no response.
He knows it's true, but given that it's a stupid-ass comparison, he's chosen to ignore it. ;)

While you may not have enjoyed the Avengers, you might be a huge fan of the Film Stage podcast discussion of it, which, despite lamenting the length of the film in question a number of times, is roughly an hour long itself. There's something for everyone!

I couldn't get through five minutes of those hipster snobs bashing the movie and giving each other reach arounds.

The Film Stage is really horrible. When Expendable/Plainview went on Slashfilm's podcast, it somehow made it worse, and the slashfilmcast is pretty bad by itself.

I really didn't mean to be bashing those guys with my comment- I legitimately think it's best intended for people like luxarific who are for better or worse unable to escape Nolan's Batman films coloring their enjoyment of any other movies that involve comic book characters.

I listened to the whole thing... I expected it to make me a little angry and roll my eyes a zillion times, and while this happened at first, it just goes on for so long and gets so... well, I ended up feeling a lot of things I did not expect. I was thinking about putting my thoughts about it down here, maybe I will do so after I take EviLore's advice to do something interesting today.

I found it difficult to listen to because he would say something and kind of if I remember right end his sentences with like "...so yeah" or something like that but it was often not a complete thought. Been a while since I listened to it but I definitely remember something about the way he said stuff always adding up to an incomplete thought.

Does he still do that on The Film Stage podcast?

No offense to him as I do find his thoughts on films generally interesting but that shit was driving me bonkers on /film.

I don't understand why so many people seem incapable of enjoying both Nolan's darker, grittier, more grounded superhero vision and Marvel's big, fun, colorful superhero movies.

Why does it have to be an either/or?

This question is particuliarly vexing when, from my perspective, it's like multiple massive childhood dreams coming through as an adult. I got goosebumps watching Nolan's Batman for the first time and RDJ as Iron Man with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury on screen together for the first time. Not only did I not have to choose, the fact that both exist makes both better for me :(

Has anybody actually been making the argument that the difference is tone rather than quality?

fanboys and the sense of 'true maturity' seem to drive it. It's ridiculous.

Because Capcom wasn't about to redraw that sprite to compensate for it. Much like how Vega's Claw switches hands or Sagat's eyepatch switches around depending on what side of the screen he's facing.

Holy fuck this movie was awesome, everything I wanted it to be. Just one thing so,
the fuck was with that song near the end. RIIIIIIISE OF THE SUUUUUUUUN!
Also, screw Scarlett Johanson, Cobie Smulders is waaaaaaay better.

Because people are idiots. The comparisons are getting tiresome. There was one earlier on this page which surprised me because I thought after the initial hype died down we'd be pass that.

I hold on to the opinion that if the directors were switched between these two movies, both would suffer as a result. Two different directors, doing two different things with two different styles trying to convey two different tones. They are impossible to compare. It's like trying to compare taken and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (both amazing films).

You know, if I could excise one line from this movie it would be Nick Fury's "they needed the push". Its been bugging me since I saw the movie, it felt really heavy handed.

Saw it last night after trying to find a showtime that wasn't sold out. Ended up traveling to three different theaters at various points in Manhattan. Man was it was all worth it. Great movie.

I loved Nolan North Deadpool, when they're being chased by the Hulk, "Hey I think we lost him"

Here is the article I referenced.

HuffPo said:
Disney reports that the record-breaking superhero film grossed $29.1 million on Friday, putting it on pace to top $100 million for the weekend. If that happens, "Marvel's The Avengers" will become the first film in history to cross triple digits during its second weekend of release.

As for "The Avengers," the records just keep falling: the film will top $300 million at the domestic box office on Saturday, after just nine days of release -- making it the fastest film to reach that total. "The Avengers" will also break the record for second-weekend gross, besting "Avatar" and "The Dark Knight." All told, "Marvel's The Avengers" could be at $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales by Sunday.

Just watched this! The Thor half sucked, the Wolverine half was great. Not sure of my point, but hey!

Saw it again today. 80% full with a lot of older people that were 50-60+, I was shocked by that. Means only good things for this movies legs if the older crowd is into it.

Nothing new to say about it, still as great the second time around for me. My wife did enjoy it more the second time around though she said.

yeah, i thought the thor part was pretty lame but i was pleasantly surprised how much better wolverine was. were they done by seperate teams or something? the animation also looked a little different too
