ROBOCOP Remake script leaked? "Total Recall seems like a masterpiece compared to it"

To be fair there's no way it could be worse than 3 in any case.

Would be interesting if the focus-group'd Robocop was functionally shittier but I don't know how they'll handle it.

Modern redesign?

Fanart btw.

Also some movies should not be remade, it can only do damage.

I feel the same way then.

Damn that 'non-child killing' policy Robo has.
It should have been the point when Murphy would have to make a decision that could turn back the directive and get over his former life and his connection to his own little boy getting in the way. Anyway, after Robo 1, it's all downhill.

Isn't outsourcing Robo's construction to China suppose to be funny? Like all the funny commercials from the original.

I mean, the original Robocop wasn't ALWAYS serious.

This is weird. I read interviews where the director wanted to do his take on Robocop as he is being put together, with a whole existential treatment on a personal level.
Like Verhoeven, Padilha is a non-us director that has thematically dealt with police and criminals, and the system that feeds both. It could be that, like Verhoeven's apparent anti-americanism, Padilha's outside view could make for earnest and unabashed criticism of current american society (reality tv, cable news, social networks, tea party and libertarians, the Oil Wars, etc). But for that to happen, like the original, he has to work closely and co-write or approve the script with the screenwriter. That probably didn't happen, and the studio only got him because they only got the action bits of Elite Squad 1 & 2.

Yeah that might've worked if Hob (that kid) held Lewis hostage or something. Then Robo had to shoot him.

This one is tricky. If they can pull off the satire it could be amazing, but if not then obviously it'll be shit.

I don't think I trust Hollywood enough, so...

This can't be real. I remember reading interviews that this was going to be a serious and non-satirical take on Robocop. The "leaks" don't sound like either.

What? Robocop is one of the best movies from the 80s. It is certainly better than "good" and it is no shit fest.

I believe the description I gave it was "Awesome 80's shitfest".

It's a description used only for the best of 80's and even early 90's over-the-top balls-to-the-wall action cheese-fests.

When it comes to the 80's, there's two kinds of shit. There's just godawful shit like 'Troll', 'Mannequin', and 'Garbage Pail Kids: The Movie'.

And then you have fucking awesome shit movies like 'Rocky IV', 'Big Trouble in Little China', and 'Escape From New York'. These aren't good movies in the traditional sense, but they sure are a lot of fun.

Robocop isn't a cheese-fest though. It's a smart film.

I guess that depends on how you choose to define 'cheesy'. I agree that the film is definitely smart. It isn't unintentionally bad at all, it knows what it's doing. However, it's insanely over the top and filled to the brim with the type of funny one-liners usually found in 80's action films, intentional or not, and it's often shockingly excessive and ridiculous, traits associated with camp. Maybe that's a better term for it - campy, though the terms are pretty interchangeable.

This is a big reason why I feel that Watchmen, despite being a faithful adaptation, failed to have emotional resonance. Taking a story about nuclear paranoia and the absurdity of silver-age heroes, and showing it to modern audiences - who already know that we aren't going to be nuked any day by the Russians, and are well accustomed to heroes who swear and kill and fornicate - and lots of the drama just doesn't work.

I'm glad they changed the film's ending for just this reason. It honestly made no sense that anyone could possibly be fooled by a prop for long.

It's not his skin dude, remember part 2 where his wife touched his face and she said it's 'Cold' ? Yeah it's artificial, like a terminator for example. His eyes aren't human either, it's 'Good as money can buy' artificial 'enhanced' eyes.

Plus from my sources and a tidbit of the script before the finalized one, he was going to be shot in the face during the 'dismantling' scene in part 2 which would reveal his metal jaw, thus metal face.

Is this a retcon from Part 2? I don't think they ever explained it in the original, but I have the impression that some of Robocop is still Murphy. Otherwise, why not just build one from scratch?

Why didn't they just rerelease the old Robocop on the big screen remastered in HD (hell even 3D seems like less of a sin than a remake). It probably would have made them more money.

I wish they'd do this with movies. There's a lot of classic films that should be seen in theaters every so often.

Omar comin', yo.

Padhila won the Golden Bear for Tropa de Elite, made one of the most acclaimed documentaries of all time with Bus 174 and directed the highly praised Secrets of the Tribes. He is not exactly Len Wiseman. Add a cast that includes Oldman, Jackson, Laurie and Omar and I remain hopeful that this will do justice to the original, but in a new and hopefully just as satirical way.

This script sounds harrrrible. The original Robocop wouldn't have stayed with so many people for this long if it was as 'cheesy' as some of you seem to think it was. Just because it had moments of humor doesn't mean it was some light hearted forgettable fluff. This isn't Supergirl or Xanadu or He-Man and the Masters of the Universe or Gremlins.

Actually, Gremlins is a lot like RoboCop. It definitely has the same dark sense of humor.

Well his brain and spine are intact.

Not sure what else is though.

So was his face and stomach (why he needed to eat baby food). The metal face thing is a retcon and considering it was cut from the script, makes it non-canon

stomach? You sure? Cause he was cut in half during the second movie and there was no stomach there.

It doesn't matter how good the director is if the script is dogshit. See Prometheus.
