Lol watch this blatant sarcasm go way over this guy's head.

If you're referring to me, I got the joke. What I'm objecting to is people acting like Rockstar is turning down this insane amount of $$$ by not releasing a PC port on day one, and trying to make it seem like the PC is a way more viable platform than it is in reality.

They don't need to put it on PC (though I'm sure they will!)

It definitely doesn't need to be there day one.

Don't get mad!

There is no way any one can tell me with a serious face that a console can pull this off, even with touch ups, it is just not feasible.

These are PC shots if I ever saw them.

Touched up console shots. I am telling you with a straight face.

edit or console dev kit

The dirt bike one I believe.

GTA has always looked great in-cutscene, especially in IV.

If you want to talk bullshot, go watch the trailer. It's a minute-30 long bullshot.
Yeah right there's all of those effects in game.

I like GAF logic. Game comes to PC first then console later? Pretty nice since they will optimize one version at a time. Game comes to consoles first then PC later? Greatest injustice in the world.

Wait, what?

What's the logic here, that PC port begging isn't port begging, but Wii U (or other console X) port begging is? What's the difference?
No. He said it's not fair that in this thread, when people suggest Wii U SKUs, they're not taken as seriously as people who think there will be a PC version. This makes sense for many reasons, the bigger ones being a user base of around fifty million versus maybe six/seven by May? A Wii U port would cost notably more, it requires some redesign for the gamepad, and greater optimization work than the PC version does, every console debuted GTA has been on PC, none have been on any Nintendo system, T2's CEO thinks the Wii U is for children.

Ha. That's awesome. And it really is insane.

What games? Where was that said by anyone on Gaf?
He's just pointing out GAF logic. Basically if a game is on PC first then ported to console everyone think's it's okay. If it's on console first then comes to PC then it's a dick move. It's ridiculous really.

Eh, it's just what the audience is here. Lots and lots of PC gamers. I'm sure there are other sites/forums where you see people equally upset about console version delays.

Its not that simple either, really. Typically, games don't release on PC first and come to consoles later in this case, however a lot of games come to console before they release on PC.

Then you have to look at a game like Sleeping dogs, where the game takes advantage of the PC's capabilities, and includes the options that are standard. You wouldn't put a game on console without XBL or PSN functionality, so why would you shortchange PCs?

Maybe that is a bad example, but I think you get the point.

In what dimension will there be 50 million gaming PCs capable of running GTAV by May 2013?

How about we get day-and-date releases?

That's as fair as you can get.

When are multi plat games ever released on PC first?

Stuff like The Witcher 2 for example were never announced for console originally.

Comparison makes no fucking sense, if it's a series that's always been on console and no PC version is announced then nobody cares. And if a PC version is announced then that's always been welcomed with open arms

Yeah. I get it. But to stay on topic GTA V will eventually come to PC. People just need to calm down imo. This is something R* has been doing with the GTA series for years.

Red Dead Redemption never came to PC :(
There was a reason for that. I think it was posted here somewhere. Idk all the details. Also, like I said this is a trend with the GTA series. Since GTA 3. The console version is released then months later the PC version. It's happened with every single main GTA game since 3. The fact that people expected any different is kind of baffling. The fact that they're furious because of this is ridiculous.

I think after Max Payne 3 released day and date, people expected better from R*.

Doesn't mean it shouldn't change

Rockstar did a great job with the Max Payne 3 PC version. They redeemed themselves only to fuck it all up again.

I'm buying it on PS3 regardless, it's just disappointing that this still happens.

Edit: actually I might not buy it just to deny them one sale for their neglect of my preferred platform

Wow this thread has turned into an even worse hot mess.

I don't think some people are going to be able to control themselves in that GI thread.

That's why it's ridiculous. People have this expectation that Rockstar needs to change their ways. Maybe they should, idk. There's a reason behind their decision I'm sure. But people shouldn't get upset when they announce something that's been following a pattern for the last 10-11 years. I get the GTA games for every console and PC regardless.

Remember what Rockstar said about RDR coming to PC:

"All we can say is that whenever it is viable (technically, developmentally and business-wise) for us to release a game for PC (or any other particular platform) – we will and we usually do; unfortunately, that is just not the case 100% of the time for all platforms."

The post adds, "To PC gamers, we hope that between the Grand Theft Auto titles, and the forthcoming L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3, you'll have plenty of great Rockstar action to enjoy." Just, you know, no cowboy action. Which is like, the best kind of action.

GTAV will come. We'll just have to wait like we have in the past.

They'll get the ax swiftly then.

If anything I'm looking forward to finally being able to talk about the game instead of talking about wii U and PC versions.

Gaffers, what is Rockstar's track record lately with PS3 versions compared to 360 versions? My 360 is on its last leg (and a 20gb no less), so I'd rather play it in PS3 as long as they are very close in performance, etc.

RDR was awesome on PS3. I haven't played MP3 yet.

Max Payne 3 is mostly the same, as is LA Noire, one is open world, one is RAGE, it's hard to say what a new open world RAGE game will be like though, RDR was the last one, and was much better on 360.

Their open world games are noticeably worse than on 360, which is the important thing for this game.

People say Max Payne 3 ran great but that was a dumb on rails game.

So I found something someone pointed out over at the Rotten Tomatoes forums.
Things like health being damaged after car crashes, cops going after you for speeding, the police looking out for you days after a rampage...if all that's true, it just seems like more of Rockstar not wanting you to actually do anything in their big city aside from play the story - like the game's penalizing you for going and doing your own thing. I was hoping for GTA V to be basically like a 360 San Andreas, or continuing what they did with TBoGT which was clearly so, so much better than vanilla IV - this indicates that won't be the case.
Idk where they got this information since I'm at work (a lot of game sites are blocked). It could all be bullshit. Anyway, thoughts, opinions, go.

I call BS for now. We had similar rumors months ago, specifically about the cops coming after you for speeding. Rockstar would be insane to do that.

I agree. Running red lights, speeding = wanted levels? Sounds like a little much. Although I would like to see a wanted level be attained from drive-bys. For example, in GTA IV if your AI buddies in the car begin shooting (not during a scripted mission), the cops will do nothing, but if you whip out the gun and fire a shot all of a sudden they're after you. Kind of pulls me out of the immersion when your driving by a police station and your AI buddies begin shooting someone and the cops do nothing.

Those are unfounded, likely wrong speculation. GTA will never penalize you for speeding. Although I do have many complaints about the wanted system from IV... or in general, the response of police, discouraging you from discovering and exploring the game. There no chance that they'll penalize you for speeding. Being hurt for crashing your car though, well, they sort of do that if you drive high speed and crash into a barrier, and I Think that it added a lot to GTA4. I have a lot of criticisms of GTA4, but some of the best times ever were crashing your passenger through the window of your car as you try to escape police.

Having played RDR on both ps3 and 360 (and owning both consoles) i hope they'll do a better job on ps3, for GTAV.
That sub-HD resolution was simply too much for me, couldn't play it.
360 version had plenty of aliasing, but at least it wasn't that blurry and washed out.

EDIT: The thing about the cops coming after you for days, was in one of the countless bullshit leaks i've read, i wish i could remember which one.

I kind of liked it that way. The buddies in 4 caused enough problems without getting the cops on me all of the time.

That's based off a "leak" awhile ago, I don't think it was 4chan but it was around that time. It's bullshit though.

I'll look around in a minute for source.

I loved cops pulling over over in IV I'd like to see more stuff like that to flesh out the world (a working police station, with booking, prisoners being transferred on the regular, etc.).

My biggest is the pigeons. 200 was WAAAAY too much. I think they should just get rid of the hidden package thing altogether. However, the pigeons thing, making you fire your weapon out in the open to kill these things made it take longer than it did because many times it would alert the police. And I wanted to beat the game 100% without cheating which I did. But that had to be the most tedious part of it. That and that stupid, infuriating, QUB3D arcade game. Awful.

Raptomex

Member
Stunt Jumps were a pain the ass in IV too but yeah pigeons were the worst.

Don't hate on QUB3D!
Don't even get me started.

Anyway. I would love to see more varied side missions. Keep the gang wars, keep the vigilante missions but hear me out. Varied locations. Many of the locations the vigilante missions in IV took you to were always the same, I want it more varied, like homes, crackhouses, offices, etc. Same goes for gang war type stuff. Think about it, the vigilante missions in IV, gang wars in TLAD, and drug wars in TBOGT, were all essentially the same. You activate the mission then drive to a location and shoot a bunch of guys. I like that but I want more varied and random locations to do this. Maybe a bank robbery side mission. Bring back the burglaries from San Andreas. Also, I want a huge arsenal and customizable weapons.
