People are pleased that they are not forced onto developers meaning pointless achievements are in theory a thing of the past. If a developer wants to put them in there is nothing stopping them from doing so. Even Wii games had achievements.
They are only pointless if you make them pointless. If they are not system-wide they are completely meaningless by default.
Also, "forced" on developers? Do you know how much work it is to implement these achievements? Don't act like it's somehow a massive burden on developers to implement a few lines of code after a certain chapter or after a certain in-game "achievement."
