Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

WOW, really? No way in hell are all those better than bloom mate. At least you learn bloom gameplay aspects so you'd be in front 8/10 times.

Against modders, aimbots, host cheating and all that you'd never stand a 1/10 chance in hell. You'd be lucky to get 0.1/10 chance.
You had to deal with bloom every match in every battle.
You had to deal with glitchers, modders and cheaters only 9 out of 10 matches.

Therefor, bloom is worse.

I can honestly say this COD's Campaign was better than Halo 4's. And Halo has one of my favorite story lines in video games. Halo 4's campaign really suffered from bad "story telling," terminals that NEEDED to be in the main story, shitty AI, terrible "new" enemies and terrible plot execution, including the "ending" up until the final CGI (post game).

There's something wrong with that IGN "vote" thing.

Also, having played both, the lag in Blops 2 can be bad, but it's comparable to Halo 4's atrocious lag, but Blops 2 doesn't have frame issues that Halo has.

False logic is false.

1 feature in 10/10 games for Bloom = 10 mechanics in 10 games.

10 fucked up things in every game for Halo 2 = 100 mechanics failing in 10 games.

Every single game of Halo 2 had a range of the issues present from the host was bridged, to players getting booted (appear to quit but we know the truth), had one player superbounce, one player button glitch, one player betray without boot option, one player being boosted, frequent use of standby, noob combo always, BR host fest etc

No way can you equate bloom to the absolute glitch/cheating/bug ridden piece of shit Halo 2 was before the TU. I don't usually call people out but your statement is just ridiculous.

Bloom was also there for a reason. To not turn the guns like the DMR into a sniper rifle which halo4 does.

Which in turn means that you shouldn't spawn with the DMR and it should go to semi-power weapon status like the Needler or SAW. It's like I said this years ago.

I cant believe I am saying this, but I was REALLY impressed by the Blops 2 campaign, the branching story was amazingly well done, I have never seen a branching story done like that before. When CoD rewards player decisions better than most RPG's do you know something is up lol. Gameplay wise I am tempted to compare it to Halo, because both games did feel fairly safe in terms of encounters and that kind of thing. Although the CoD Strike Force missions are better than Sparton Ops.

Also the developer made a throwaway comment like "I really like this map, its symmetrical but not to simplistic in terms of layout" - I personally think simplistic maps are better.

Calling the Halo 4 UI an eyesore is absurd. Its not ideal or a good example of great usability, but I don't think its ugly by any means. Too much extremism around here.

It's not absurd.

I usually play Halo 4 after work and before I go to bed and I'm a little bit tired. The horrible "cards" UI just fills most of the screen with junk information. I don't care what armour other players are wearing, not do I care what their favourite "stance" is for their virtual Barbie.

Meanwhile to even look at the gamertags of either team I have tilt my head slightly and even then the tags have been converted to all caps no actual reason that benefits me trying to read them.

It really is a strain on my eyes.

This is ignoring the jumping around the screen does after voting for a map.
This is ignoring the inconsistent stylisations of the menus across the various game modes.
This is ignoring the crazy amount of nestled options everywhere.
This is ignoring the flickering bug that happens almost every time I'm hosting a lobby.
This is ignoring the fact that I can't see my lobby/party anywhere in the UI without going check the roaster
This is ignoring so many obvious and annoying other issues the UI has, both in the menu's and in the gameplay.

But no, I'm being too extreme.

All good points I agree with. I don't think the Halo 4 UI is good, I think its poor. I do not think its ugly though, nor an eyesore. Just a poorly designed, too little info, not easy to use UI.

I still think you are being extreme when you call it an eyesore. :p

Halo 2 customs with honour rules to get rid of all the griefing is hands down a far better experience than Halo Reach. Halo Reach with honour rules still has all the gameplay problems.

Halo 2 had cheaters, but its core gameplay was great. Reach does not have cheaters, but the core gameplay was so bad I didn't care either way.

The inability to clearly see people's party deals is the dealbreaker for me. Having the active roster is useless if it doesnt convey much information.

The basketball card thing would have been better if information like favorite gun was displayed on the card, at the moment its just a spartan pose and armour, and once you have seen all the poses and armour once you kind of dont care anymore.

I think this is a poor idea. Think about it, one players gets the DMR and just destroys while the clip lasts. Then that's it. It's doesn't even rack up the same amount of potential kills as a sniper or rocket or shotgun clip etc.

It also doesn't really have a viable long range counter by other player. Honestly the DMR is countered by teamwork, cover and map movements. Not trying to out pistol or BR the DMR at long range.

When you're in close quarters the BR and destroy a DMR user. Two BR users or 2 x DMR users destory one DMR user at any range.

It's really not that bad. If you have a host carbine against a hitscan non host the carbine will win with a skilled player or light rifle needs only land one scoped in shot then can beat the DMR as well.

My issue is all of those weapons should have been hitscan and then we would have seen more precision weapons in use with respect to the sandbox balancing.

Absolutely, I edited my post too, but basically Halo made a mess of itself.

The MP suffers from "bad" game mechanics that are abused and make the game unfun at times. The frame rate drops BADLY in many maps. There's already indications that there's going to be a load of playlists that are going to fragment an already small population resulting in poor "good host" retrieval. There are many games with atrocious lag.

Coop - Absolutely sucks for campaign, some spots like the Ghost segment that are broken in coop. Spartan ops absolutely sucks. The enemies, stupid AI, and waves of 1 shot weapon enemies only exacerbate the shittyness of this mode.

Campaign - Incoherent storyline, terminals NEEDED to be in the game. Stupid implementation of QTE and atrocious "boss battle" at the end. Then there's the combat. It absolutely sucked. AI was terrible, weapons were terrible, Promethians were terrible and the vehicle segments were terrible. There was not a single "memorable" moment from campaign.

The only redeeming value of the "coop/Campaign" is the CG cutscenes. The only redeeming value of MP is that there are game modes that can be fun, and if you don't take the game seriously at all there is fun to be had.

good evening

this is your daily reminder (december 5th, 2012) that in the most expensive game microsoft has ever produced, people are taking screenshots of their TV to share cool moments with their friends, and having to layer announcer commentary on top of video clips because the game won't capture it when they record a video

thank you

Ill give you that. But to me, noob combo lock-on weapons and useless guns that are only good when paired up with another one are decisions that are just as bad and broken. Everyone in halo2 at one point used that noob combo. Everyone. That isnt any better.

You seem to have totally flip flopped on your original statements on the game. Both games. Hmm.

Both games? What's the other game? And what opinion changed?

And "flip flopped" is a bit absurd. I WAS having fun with the game until shit got abused and I've been complaining about those campaign issues since I beat the game.

Halo 4 is still fun, and one of the best games on Live, I'm just listing the issues.

Eh, a lot of people's feelings about the game have drastically changed since launch. For the first couple days, I had a blast. And then it all went downhill.

I think we just like very different things. :p Personally I hate weapons like the AR SMG Needler in multiplayer, and so the game revolved around BR's was great.

Didnt like the noob combo all that much tbh, I did like lock on rockets and think it worked far better than the laser does.

I wonder how much of the budget went towards the CGI.

I would honestly have been fine with in game cinematics, its not like they have used the CGI for anything interesting yet anyway.

I think Reach had the ideal solution to the lobby/virtual Barbie combination. It recognized that the most important thing about the lobby was to tell you who is in it - a list of gamer tags. If you wanted to see how their Spartan was decked out, you scrolled to them (which tilted the screen slightly to make room) and you could look at armor. But it was hidden unless you wanted to see it.

Halo 4 flips this. It makes the Spartan pose the dominant data in the UI, filling the screen and pushing other more important information out, and information like "who the fuck are these people" are secondary. Names down the side, gamertags in all caps, to facilitate the trading card format. It's actualy an apt metaphor for the Halo 4 UI as a whole.

Remember when 343 said they wanted to create "water cooler moments" with Spartan Ops? Great co-op experiences players would get together and talk about? I think it turned out to be literal. Because we can't share the experiences any other way. Huddle round the virual water cooler, something awesome happened last night. You shoulda been there.

Not a "hater" but I can see how you would take it that way. Halo is still one of my favorite franchises, but I think anyone who's objective can see this Halo as a whole package is a shadow of what it used to be.

It should have been a lot better.

Honestly, i thought Reach did weapons balance very well. Which is what Halo2 does not do well at all to me. Most weapons in Reach worked well and had a purpose. There was a reason to use them. But in Halo2, the guns that locked on and are unavoidable (like the pp or needler) took no skill to use at all, the fact that banchees, tanks and jeeps where all vulnerable to the lock-on rockets made the vehicles way to easy to kill and putting guns like an smg that's useless unless you use another gun with it, to me, is fundamentally broken gameplay that makes shitty players think theyre good at the game when it fact the weapons (and not the players) are doing all the work. Reach (or Halo4 for that matter) doesn't do that from what i noticed, and i prefer it that way.

Having rockets, somewhat lock-on weapons or noob combos in Reach or 4 for the most part takes some skill to get kills with them, it doesnt in halo2.

True. I liked Reach's a bit more. I always liked the sense of scale and space that are in most Halo Lobbies. It was cleaner too, imo. This one seems a bit clumped together, especially when your playing BTB and all the player cards are layed on top of each other. It's fine I just prefer the older lobby set up.

Hehe, the issues listed in your post: AI, enemies, weapons and vehicles are shit ;p

You think they are great?

Promethians just stand there, and do jack shit. Want to know how to beat an elite? Walk in front of them for a second and waste them while they go into plasma grenade throwing animation (this is when they don't act like the promethians and just stand there while you brain them). Crawlers simply charge you. Grunts are grunts and jackals are jackals. Watchers are simply an annoyance with no substantial addition to the sandbox. Hell, you can just dance around hunters again and melee them to death.

There's a reason this was the easiest campaign on legendary even despite the lack of ammo and weapon controlling to limit the sandbox in an attempt to "bump" difficulty. The AI was absolutely terrible.

Promethian weapons suck (light rifle is a DMR/BR hybrid) Binary rifle is OP in MP and is broken in campaign, same with Incindiary cannon. Covenant weapons suck (all are simply boring with the exception of the beam rifle). UNSC weapons are the best in the entire game but the AR is a little too powerful in MP.

The only good vehicle is the Mantis both in campaign and MP. Vehicles in Campaign are not fun, nor are the segments they are in memorable. Vehicles in MP, including the Mantis are simply death traps.

No, just think those are some bad issues to have if you're, ya know, a shooter.

Did you even read what I posted? What the fuck are you even talking about?

Also, Dbag move editing out the rest of the post.

Hmm..I wonder what kind of forerunner/promethean vehicle would they create to add to the sandbox if they wanted too. Prometheans could teleport so it would be useless but man would it be interesting.

No you're actually right. A lot of CoD fans are busy playing Blops2. A lot of Halo fans are online bitching about it.

There's a lot of Blops fans bitching too, but there are more of them in general. Having played both, Blops 2 isn't perfect either. Still a bunch of fun though. I need to get in those matches Heckfu was mentioning the other day.

Have yet to even find the ranking system though...

Semi-power weapon like the Needler or SAW. It's purpose isn't to rack up kills like a full power weapon like the Rocket, Sniper, or Shotgun. And I don't even know what you're rambling on about it having a single clip.

The long range counter is the sniper. The long range counter to every weapon is the sniper. The DMR is countered by teamwork. Yep. Just like every other semi-power weapon. A 1 on 1 against a competent player using the Needler will result in the Needler user winning. A 1 on 1 encounter against a SAW user will result in the SAW user winning. Guess what? The DMR is the same way.

Come at me with a BR. I will dong upon you at any range with my DMR all day until I run out of ammo, which is surprisingly more than 1 clip.

And if you're bringing host/offhost into this, anything can happen. You might get a Halo 3 bloodshot, you might be teleporting like crazy.

And again I don't even know or understand what the last paragraph is rambling about.

I had more written out, but I think I'm gonna save that for another post on sandbox design.
