Michel Ancel and Rayman dev team show up at fan(?) protest RE: Rayman Legends delay

rofl

I agree with this assessment. Really makes you wonder what the internal climate at Ubi is like.

With the lack of marketing, I don't think "casual" users even know what the WiiU is yet. The majority of early adopters tend to be gaming enthusiasts. Besides, you only have to turn on the console to see the comments about the delay in WaraWara Plaza. They're literally unmissable.

Really would like to know if they know about this and if it concerns them. The postings aren't stopping either. Majority of Wii U systems are connected online. Like said you don't even have to enter Miiverse now. You see these post automatically because the Uplay community is so active.

Everyone defending Ubisoft seems to not be mentioning the whole crunch time deal.

Either they are ignoring this to support their narrative because they are corporate lickspittles or are defending Ubisoft because they are unaware of the whole situation.

Ha, look who´s talking. How about be happy that many more people will play the game instead of being bitter that it went multiplatform. If WiiU owners wanted to buy the game because it´s exclusive and not because it´s a great game then that´s their problem. People who want to buy the game they buy it regardless.

Hahahaha, is this for real?

?
What does this comment even mean. Ubisoft has a very strong and profitable presence on Nintendo consoles. The Miiverse Uplay discussion is going so strong that comments from it appear on the screen you see when you start up the console. It's a valid concern.

I don't get the uproar, the millions of PS360 users will launch the game into the stratosphere, just like with Origins.

This.

Ubisoft bashing in the main plaza is now a "feature" of Wii U.

People are upset at the seven month delay of a finished product

Why won't people get this into their heads?

How about you guys get over the fact that nobody is angry about it going multiplat.

They are angry because the finished game is also being pushed back and the dev team is being forced to go back to work without the satisfaction of knowing that at least one group of players is enjoying their hard work.

No it´s not. Most people who buy just dance don´t even know who makes it. Don´t tell that the casual follow gaming news. This has zero consequence for Ubisoft. 0. And if WiiU owners stopped buying Ubisoft games because of this, then first lol, second there would be no Ubisoft games coming to the WiiU. The people who commenting on Miiverse do not represent everyone who owns a WiiU.

I think the uPlay Community's reaction showing up in the Wara Wara Plaza is a brilliant indicator of what Miiverse was intended for, and has the potential to be.

This is not realistic, as Woody is reaching out to the kid to be played with, and Nintendo doesn't. Nintendo has always taken the view that they want to manage their own information, and that means not cooperating with outside media the way that other companies do. Today, they do it by creating their own media. In this case, "games 'journalism'" (wow, scare quotes, I'm surprised he didn't prefix it with "so-called") is portrayed as abandoning Nintendo for the new and Shiny, which makes no sense. Nintendo isn't courting game journalists and failing, they're actively striving for epistemic closure.

The game is still coming to the console anyway, so suck it up and wait for it like everyone else. It´s not the first time this happens, and it won´t be the last. And if people loved the Rayman franchise at all they would not be upset because the game will sell much better to a much, much larger user base and it will guarantee more Rayman games for much less marketing costs since it will be marketed once. So stop acting like children and look at the big picture.

Actually, they kinda do. When your Wii U boots up and all the negative reactions appear on your TV in the Wara Wara Plaza, that means these posts are the most popular. Which would mean that the uproar is representative of at least a majority of people who use Miiverse.

A September release is the equivalent of sending the game to die.

Also, how many games get delayed just 2 weeks from release?

Well if wanting to get a finished product you've already purchased on a day in the same season it was promised is acting like a child, where's my diaper? I must need one for believing in solid business practices.

Yves is Marie Antoinette? *confused*

He was referring to this post I made:

Assistant: "Sir there are protests, even Michael Ancel is supporting it, twitter is going crazy, they are starving for games!!"

Yves looks down at the protest with a grin on his face "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche,"

And it seems Baconsammy is MIA

First time the Uplay appeared in Wara-Wara plaza was when the Rayman demo was available in e-shop and the community was full with positive comments and now again still Rayman is to blame. So, a lot of Wii U users are aware about Rayman's situation. Adding also how well are the eshop games (Trine and The Cave especially) doing during this period of drought I think this is a perfect situation for the game and it will be a pity to miss this opportunity.

The history of Origins does not really make an argument that launching in September for the 140 million users will guarantee success. In fact, I have not seen so much desire for this game outside Wii U. Even in these threads people are more trying to bash Nintendo fans than express desire of playing this game on other consoles.

The game was delayed two weeks prior to release. If they had done this a few months back, I bet you many people, including myself, wouldn't be upset. The fact is the game is done, they aimed to release it in a few weeks, and now it's delayed. If this were GTA V or any other big game, I bet you people would be just as angry or upset.

And why is that? Nintendo Direct didn't exist 10 years ago. Yet the bias in gaming media sure as hell did. And the problem is that, except for a few exceptions, gaming media has been little more than fanboys "blogging" about their favorite pastime. The term "investigative journalism" doesn't exist in this alternative form of, sure, so-called journalism. Basically it's either ragging on platform/game X and praising platform/game Y. And offering a platform for publishers to share "press-releases" to the public. In 99% of the time, that's all there is to it.

What if, two weeks before Grand Theft Auto V releases, the game gets delayed in order to release simultaneously with a Wii U version seven months later?

I didn't read the entire thread yet, but considering the flippant attitude from some people here, I'm fully expecting to see someone to tell him "It's just business", "Rayman isn't important", or my favorite, "Get over it."

I mean, seriously. Ubisoft looks like shit here. This is ridiculous. I'm trying to think of a way this could be worse, and I can't (yet).

A completely finished GTA V being delayed to launch simultaneously with a Wii U version. You bet your asses that people would rage over this.

Like Origins right? 140K user base = 50k sales. ;)

Then it'd be completely cool for everybody looking forward to GTA5 to get upset about the delay if the game was ready to go.

This article says everything I can possibly say about this atrocity. It's just such a bad business move.

Not necessarily. If they'd release the Wii U version now, they'd have to make the price of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions cheaper when they release in September, as the Wii U version would probably be priced off by then. They'd also have to spend more money on marketing if they'd do two seperate launches.

I still think they should release the Wii U version this month out of respect to the developer's efforts to get it done on time though. (also because I want to play it. :p)

You do realize that the JD demographic (or even the bulk of the Wii demographic) aren't the ones who own Wii Us atm, right? Otherwise the hardware would selling much better than it is right now.

Precisely. That's why I don't buy the idea that everyone complaining is only doing so because they can't stomach the idea of an exclusive going multiplatform.

Meh. Comes across as trying to hard. We get it; the decision was made by higher-ups, not you guys. "We didn't have anything to do with the delay, guys! We're just like you."

I like the soft release option. Put it on the Wii U store. Dont do a retail release or advertising until September. Call it the special preview version, or whatever. If sales would be miniscule, so what. Itd be great damage control. Better than forcing the devs to make another Wii U demo.

Chuck

Still without luck
Should have never been a WiiU exclusive to begin with if Nintendo never gave them money to make it exclusive. No stupider move in the publishing biz than releasing a sequel exclusively for an unestablished platform.

Not if they launch the Wii U version just in the eshop.

Plus, they anyhow need to take out the Murphy levels and add some new ones for 360/PS3, so it won't be the same game. :))

And with this whole thing going on right now they can keep the marketing budget for September launch.

Games websites, twitter and Wara-wara plaza will ensure enough coverage for it now.

It would be amazing if they did this. Even more amazing if the game didn't fit on a basic Wii U.

It would be a combination of the Bayonetta 2 reveal + the current Rayman Legends fiasco.

Basically NeoGAF would explode.

The race is already a lost cause by competing with GTA V when it comes to marketing. Sales numbers is one thing, competing with ad space is another. No way is Legends going to succeed battling that.

Why won't people get this into their heads?
Yeah, seriously. If they could port quickly and easily and get it out multiplatform in May or even June I don't think people would be half as upset (though the two weeks before release thing is STILL very offputting.) But until September, when Wii U titles are probably kicking up anyway?

Actually, even this month would still be best for filing a void, next month we'll have Lego City Undercover and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, so those will give the Wii U purpose quite easily in and of themselves.

EDIT: And for the record I don't think many Wii U owners would've been SERIOUSLY upset if this got ported to 360/PS3 later on, maybe they'd be upset they got the system for Rayman Legends only for it to be pointless, but it's naive to think Ubisoft wouldn't eagerly port if an opportunity arose. It's delaying the whole damn thing that's offputting, and makes me wonder if Microsoft's got a stricter policy than Sony (as in "even with extra content we won't accept it"). If Microsoft IS to blame for their policies it'd just be another reason I'd want them chased out, but it seems possible they would rather not make the new content to justify ports to those two anyway.

Are you serious????

Because of the higher ups, they wont earn the bonuses, which are normally promised, if the game sells well.

And dont forget how they worked their asses off to releases this game in February.

Now everything is fucked up....

i totally sympathize with Ancel.

He is quite a formidable guy....

I dont get it why people like you, are taking sides with some CEOs
