I'm genuinely surprised to see Disney bringing back Mickey in this way. Disney always has Mickey cartoons on TV in some form, but it's usually cartoons trying to cater to a new audience (similar to Warner Brothers and Bugs Bunny) vs trying to appeal to fans of the older cartoons.

The quality is really nice too.

That was so damn awesome. I actually laughed (out loud) a few times throughout. I especially like how Mickey's little scooter has a voice and vocalizes the motor sounds. Too cute. The whole French thing killed me!

Really love how they went with a 50's style design

WOW Just saw this in 1080p and its fantastic! After the chairman meeting the other day where Iger said all that shitty things I felt kind of down with disney, but watching this and hearing some of the commets of some gaffers that know things, im happy again. Cant wait to see the other 18 shorts.
Love the Mary Blair style backgrounds.

Also was surprsed to hear about the buddy cop movie of Roger and Mickey. Koping that gets greenlighted at the end.

We did the animations for these at our studio. Been waiting for them to come out since they look fantastic.

Thanks for the amazing work guys! This is a dream come true.

Its like we are entering a new age of American cartoons now. So much quality cartoons that we could pick from. MLP, TMNT, Adventure time, Gravity Falls, Korra...

They wanted to do exactly this before the crisis came and fuck it all. Yeah, theres some really good things going on right now, but see also how many cancellations of good things are happening. They need an stable economy so they can crank the good stuff instead of only doing the crap that gets them money.

I saw production art for this in November of 2011 and I have had to keep my mouth shut for a year and a half and it has been TORTURE. Every few months I'd Google "new Mickey shorts" to see if they'd been announced yet so I could talk about them. I am SO FUCKING EXCITED for these. They nailed everything.

FYI guys, they don't mention him in the press release (probably because nobody knows who the hell he is still) but Oswald is going to be in these shorts too. I'm not going to spoil them for you all but I've heard the plots for a few of his episodes and they sound hilarious.

I think I recall seeing art for Horace and Clarabelle too, but I can't remember. But I am just so insanely happy that they've finally announced these and that they're as good as the art looked. Can't wait to go to the movies and see one of these playing before the feature.

REALLY hope they get some kind of home release, via iTunes, DVD, BluRay, whatever. I want them all in the best quality possible.

Thanks WordAssassin for all the info you are giving in this thread, some of it may never come true, but it still gives me hope hearing all this. And I cant wait for the Oswald shorts!

Heh, so Disney was lying when they recently said they had no 2D projects in production.

Edit: Never mind, I was thinking of this article which just said they weren't doing any films right now.

Iger was lying or didnt have a clue at some of the projects becuase the company is too big (he said exactly that last part during the meeting), he actually said there was nothing about Oswald in the pipelines (he said that like he was a one thing for epic mickey, something that made me really mad), while just last week some new merchidise of him appeared in world of disney and DCA stores, and WordAssassin has just said some of the shorts are going to be about Oswald.
That could mean there are really some 2D feature films in the future, even if they are in the far future.
That chairman meeting fucked lots of things, and is good to know not all of it was true.

Its not 50's, its a blend of 20's and 30's with color. Fantasia, that is from the 1940, already changed Mickey to the character we know today. The background style is really Mary Blair, so you could say that those are very 50's.

Also the part with the goat after Mickey is not a parody of Mickey Mania game, is a tribute to Oswald's Trolley Troubles and Mickey's Plane Crazy shorts, that have exactly the same scene with different objects.

Yeah I hadn't read up on that talk Iger gave but he has no idea what he's talking about if he says they're not using Oswald further. He's totally in the shorts, unless they cut him at the last minute.

Only read if you want Oswald's involvement in the shorts spoiled:
Oswald is Mickey's friend from college. He never talks, there's a running gag that whenever he tries he gets interrupted or, in one case when they're at a concert, he's shouting but the music is too loud.

I don't know if he's in multiple shorts, but he's absolutely in at least one of them.

I also have a really hard time accepting that they would go through what they did to get Oswald back, to never use him outside of the games. He has his own store in DCA. The Oswald hats were HUGE. He's in the new shorts series. They're not going to just stop using him.

Can't wait for this fucker to show up in these shorts.

This is kinda cool but on the other hand Mickey is lame. When will Disney make 2d animation show based on works of Rosa and Barks!?

Always pleasant to spot gentlemen with impeccable taste here at GAF.

Bertram, here's hopin' they do the Duck of old justice. Sans a few exceptions, modern animated incarnations have watered him down horribly (that Muskeeters movie being a noticeable big offender). It's about time they remember there's more to Don than being the universe's punching bag.

Fuzz, as much as I'd love for that to happen in my lifetime, I think Donald's animated voice is one big obstacle toward such a thing. You could suggest Disney just gives him a normal-sounding voice specifically for such a venture, but do you ever see Disney actually forsaking one of Cartoon!Donald's most famous characteristics?

Crossing my fingers for this shorts' program. At any rate it's a relief to see Disney hasn't forgotten their roots.

Great stuff! Loved that first short so looking forward to seeing these too. Will they get posted online somewhere like the first one did?

Forgot this was happening until I noticed a commercial for it during that new Pac-Man show. Can't wait to check them out.

I wish Disney's player didn't pop up and cover the last five seconds of the video.

Seconded. I wanted to see Donald's expression when Daisy said he was naked (though it's weird because Minnie's topless and Daisy's nude from the waist down.

I love the spelled out soundeffects and use of color. Some of it is a little busy but for the most part the animation is really smooth. Donald's a dick but sometimes Mickey can be the bigger jerk

I liked the first one. But I still notice some horrible "this is animated with flash" type moments that kills most new 2D animation for me. The stretching and skewing looks really unnatural and kills the mood when I see it.

Other than that though, it was great.

So this is going to be a series on Disney Channel? These shorts are so classy and well done--perfect reboot of the classic characters.
