Need For Speed Most Wanted U |OT| Burned out, Upshift

Just how bad are the lock-ups? I see some comments on NeoGAF and a few other websites suggesting they can be pretty damn irritating. Are there any previous cases of Criterion taking the time to patch in a fix for something like this with other games, or is it most likely something we're stuck with?

I have a few wii u games but never seen in game miiverse alerts until this one. Is that a system wide thing or just game to game?

What in-game Miiverse updates? I know you can post from in-game, but I'm not aware of any updates.

Has anyone tried playing the game with the Wiimote's tilt controls? How easy and effective is it? I'm hoping to let my GF play this game and while she'd be willing to brave its learning curve, I'm not sure she'll be able to handle it if the Wiimote method of driving is fundamentally problematic.

The game won't let me use the Wiimote's tilt controls, even though I turn motion controls on. I can only steer with the control pad.

I've already had 2 lockups when playing last night.

I've played for about 5 hours with no lock ups. But I haven't had problems with lock ups.

Why does the Wii u version have no car shadow? I am guessing it's because the time of day.
Those are bad pics. Check out these ones I posted a few pages back. Textures are clearly better than 360/PS3.

This game is beautiful. Textures are clearly better than the 360/PS3 versions, as is the lighting. Everything looks sharp and the frame rate is smooth.
.

Based on what? Do you own it on the other platforms and have loaded the same spot in the pictures?

I don't have the game but a guy on miiverse said the controls are completely mapable including acceleration/braking to the right stick.

While I haven't played this on the 360, it certainly looks better than the PS3 version.

Such a fun game. Took a while to beat the first Most Wanted car, but I eventually got it.

Considering that EA made it $60 for everyone in the first place, it seems kind of crappy of them to cut their own price in half for themselves their to boost hits to their network. I was certain that doing that type of thing is illegal in this country. Like how Apple got sued for selling Iphones from their store cheaper than what resellers could profitably sale them for.

Its not like I had any respect left for EA to begin with though. They have no shame. I refuse to support them on any platform.

I feel bad for Criterion though. I wish there was a way I could see the money delivered directly to them instead of EA.

This game hits home for me that next gen games have to have that resolution bump. just adding better assets to 720p isn't going warrant a new console.

if this game was just like it is but in 1080p it would be wow worthy.

Has anyone else who's played the PS3/360 version noticed differences between the U version and those versions?

I just got Best Buy to price match Origin. It took a little coaxing, but they finally allowed me to. Now I'm just second guessing my decision even at $30, because if the analog steering does in fact behave different than the previous versions I'm going to be really unhappy. Several people have mentioned it already.

Also, watching youtube videos of the U version there does seem to be some noticeable pop-in. This was not a problem on the 360 version, at least installed.

Next gen games should be rendered natively at 1080p without question. Based on rumored specs for both consoles it seems that is the plan.

I headed in to my local Best Buy today to pick this up, and amazingly, they price matched the sale price on Origin when I showed them the webpage on my phone. No hassle either...the Bes Buy guy just checked with a manager real quick and I was good to go.

Really excited to get this and curious to experience a Criterion NFS game. The last BO I played was for the GCN, so I missed all the open world hoopla. Screens look pretty amazing.

Analog brake/gas using the right stick?

I've never thought of that.

That actually sounds like it would work quite well. I'm thinking inverse Y could be even more fun as you pull the stick back to take off.

I tried the game a bit last night but I saw a ton of graphical errors and artifacts sometimes and other times the game was just gorgeous. I haven't noticed any of the graphical errors in videos for the game so I'm worried that my Wii U may be borked :/

Ok, you definitely can do analog acceleration on the right stick, just change it in the options. Can leave brake on zL too. Yesssss.

Just to make sure I am reading this right, that means you can press forward slightly on the right stick and accelerate slightly, or press all the way forward and rev up to top speed?

I went to best buy earlier today and had a horrible experience. The guy didnt even know what the wii u was first off. And then they said the game was in stock only to find out it was missing from the back.

Lucky me I guess.

I'm starting to think lock ups are purely hardware specific(ie some systems are prone to them for whatever reason)

Anyone whos having them, do you have them in other games?

I've had one lock up since launch, and that wasn't even in game I don't think.

Yep. Not as sensitive as I hoped, but there is definitely a range. Was cruising at like 35mph, pushed the stick up all the way and hit 115.
Just change it in the options. Did that and then switched nitrous to zR, and I am doing much better.

If the Wii U version is better looking, it's a marginal increase at best. I could care less. The game looks good and plays well. I may try out the analog stick for gas.

Higher res textures, improved lighting, more geometry, better framerate, to me it sounds like its improved in almost every way. Lets see what a proper side by side comparison shows before assuming things based on youtube videos (which show about as much detail in games as a SD LCD TV).

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
I really need to stop browsing through the game's Miiverse American community. That doesn't make the game come out any sooner here.

Just booted this up. Playing on the Gamepad only so far. Liking what I'm seeing. Unfortunately I don't have access to my main HDTV at the moment, so I can't truly compare the graphics to the other console versions, but it certainly runs and looks very nice.

My NIND is the same as my Neogaf username. Send me a request so we can compare some times!

I'll likely pick this up sometime next month. Is this game friendly to people who don't play racers often, besides kart racers? Haven't played a NFS or Burnout game since PS2/GameCube era.

lack of reviews is too bad. are major websites going to pretend it doesn't exist, just like Crimson Shroud and numerous other games?

Reviews really aren't necessary, are they? Just read the reviews from last November. It's the same game, but now you've got some Gamepad and Miiverse featured added which you can see demo'd in various videos.

Technically speaking it performs very nicely. There are framerate drops during the most intense races, but they are brief and that happened on the 360/PS3 versions as well.

why are people who are not playing the game trying so hard to downplay the obvious graphical increases?

I've played the 360/PS3 versions extensively and I got the U version tonight. I can tell you that the graphical improvements are rather minor. The textures have been improved, but beyond that I'm not really noticing much else. More intense motion blur might be the second more obvious tweak while boosting. The game moves fast, so it's just not that easy to pick out small details sometimes. The game looks great on all platforms.

I've also had no lockups after 2 hours of play, and I haven't noticed any steering differences that others have mentioned.

so, just played a couple of hours more. no lock ups this time thankfully. it's a really solid port. graphical differences aside... i'm not having any trouble driving without analogue acceleration or break. it's quite possible to never let off full throttle, and use a little break to throw the corner into drifts on any corners too tight to take at full speed. in Hot Pursuit that was the ideal way to do things, and I'm seeing no evidence that that isn't the case here in Most Wanted. I love this mix of Paradise and Hot Pursuit. I'm starting to learn my way around town somewhat and enjoying the constant flow of things to see and do.

I'm sure everyone picking this up on Wii U is going to be pleased. I know I am. It pushes all the right buttons for me, AND has off screen play which is a massive bonus for me. I picked up Hot Pursuit on PC, and being unable to get it to play at a locked 60 fps, the tearing / stuttering bothered me quite a bit, so I locked it to 30 fps and played it that way anyway. Having a seemingly rock solid 30 fps is preferable to me than not being locked at 60 fps in a racing game, and I know on PC people were having trouble keeping a consistent level of performance.

And I love the Caterham. my dream car finally in a video game :)

Because Wii U cannot have better graphics than the Xbox 360 as some twist logic in some brains do not understand that the console is more capable that previous gen consoles.

Anyway the game looks fantastic and by the looks of things it will be my next purchase for Wii U.
