Defensive shivs can kill clickers if they're already damaged. But fresh clickers take a shiv to the neck and just get really pissed off.

Shiv is a OHK on any unaware enemy.

It is realistic if your skull is turning into fungus, don't you think?

Also the gif is repeating something brutal. Will probably not feel as brutal when you're trying to make it out of there alive and it doesn't loop forever.

Oh, I didn't know about the turning into fungus thing. Makes more "sense" then. Still not the biggest fan of explicit violence and gore.

That's a reason why I loved the demo. Each kills were so visceral and violent that I was taken aback each time. I'll probably play the full game by choking everyone out if I can.

It was what I disliked about Uncharted. The characters were so likeable but each enemy death felt meaningless. It lacked gravitas and made Nate seem like a mercenary than a treasure hunter. The deaths in this however felt so personal that I can see many avoiding battles just because they felt it wasn't right.

So are people thinking this will be he replacement for Uncharted? I have not played this but it looks very nice but Uncharted is one of my favorite games this generation and I hope it continues.

TLOU network strings (tied to MP mode) were found in demo files, looks like they have some fresh multiplayer mode inside

I thought I didn't damage it before using the shiv but maybe I did.
There's supposed to be another type of infected besides these 2 right or am I making that up?

Actually, the rain and blood on the screen is slowly starting to bug me in games. It makes it weird that their is some camera following you and not you playing a person. Devs need to stop using it as fancy eye-candy.

I agree with you, those effects(and things like lens flare) are annoying, overused and can have a negative impact on the gameplay. The blood coming out of that thing's head after the knee strike is what pleases me.

Edit: It bugs me that there is no blood on the wall, fix this shit ND.

It actually plays nothing like uncharted really. Very very slow paced... This isn't high action Indiana jones.
 
Excited for this game for so many reasons...I'm forcing myself to stay away from the demo right now. Which has made doing other things more difficult.

Yeah same with me. Since I haven’t downloaded the demo I’ve been F5'ing this thread like every 10 minutes for most of the day. Must. Remain. Strong! o_O

Personally, it should be off by default IMO, especially if you choose to play on Hard or Survivor.

I dont feel anything since I turn it off by default.

I dont need it at all, but some people will want to use it and that's fine.

I personally think this IP will top Uncharted. I just enjoy the extra gameplay elements and challenge of the genre over Uncharted's casualness of having a fun romp through the story. I like how my actions affect me in the longer term of the game (health and item management), I like feeling that the game doesn't hold my hand, and that it remembers my choices. In Uncharted, the only concern was blasting through enemies with some consideration to how I approached enemies, but for the most part it was what you expect from action games. The story moves forward, and what I did in the past section didn't matter as I was given a new scenario to take on. With LoU, there is more freedom and less funnelling in that sense. I think it makes for a more engaging and personalized game. I'm so glad ND went this route. ND combines excellent cinematics with far more enjoyable gameplay mechanics to really blend the best of both worlds.

So, assuming TLoU has the kind of success to become a franchise, that ND is still interested in continuing it, and assuming Joel and Ellie's story beings and ends with this game, what other type of protagonist(s) would you be interested in seeing in the post-apocalyptic world?

They have done the father-daughter thing here... and in Uncharted you got the quick-witted quipping everyman guy...

If you want to keep the melee brutal like it is, you'd have to have a physically strong protagonist. This is why playing as Ellie is unlikely, since it'd really limit your options for combat. Guns or nothing, run away, basically.

So I wonder what they'd do in another game with a different protagonist(s).

That's strange, could it be that demo was so limited that some code couldn't be implemented? Because that feature was in the 2nd gameplay trailer.

Oh. And 3 more days before embargo lifts............ I'm keeping expectations relatively low anyone else joining me?

wouldn't that'd be a bit too similar with what we had now. I think siblings could made an interesting main character, make it so you can pick which character you play like Resident Evil so you get the same story told from different perspectives

Yea, I thought about siblings as well. But that got me thinking it might have been too similar to other games, where two protagonists have that kind of 'brotherly' relationship (Army of two, Kane and Lynch etc.).Unless of course we went all the way with two female siblings. I think that'd be cool for once.

I thought the older man/dog would add some interesting dynamics. The older man has less stamina/strength, and could make for some interesting plot points. And the dog can help with scavenging in a unique way.
 
the shivs can only be used once on hard! If you use it to unlock the door, it will disappear and if you stab a fully morphed clicker with it, you can only recover it (from its corpse) once it is dead.

Regarding shivs...

Playing on normal, I lost a shiv to a door unlocking (it looked like it was on the ground after but I couldn't pick it up). I had two going into the fight at the end, and when everything went haywire, two shivs killed the clicker (he grabbed me twice and twice I used the triangle
to shiv or you die option).

So...first shiv as a counter to the clicker didn't kill him, but a second did.

Yep. And I think TLoU has a dedicated team which is separate from the Uncharted franchise.

Based on what I've heard, The Last of Us will be worth the hype and makes me excited to not only play it, but see what ND has in store for PS4.

When I looked at the offer through the demo, there was one choice that gave you the OST and some other stuff like themes or whatever.

But they didn't have the option that offered skins and other gameplay related stuff.

However... I recall a gaffer posting images of two preorder options (one of them having the gameplay related stuff) but I think he was from Europe? So what they offer might be regional. I would have preordered right there if they had offered me the gameplay stuff. So now I'm considering a retail version... idk... tough call.

Absolutely NOT!

Although the game (Uncharted GA) was technical sound, the casting/acting/directing (primarily talking about Marisa Chase) was sub par to what I now expect from ND.
 
In EU it does if you preorder. But they have put up two preorders, one for each preorder bonus pack, so it seems you can only get one of them by going digital.

I'm hoping that this week we get an information overload about the multiplayer. I am so damn curious about what it will be. Really hoping it just isn't a versus mode like Left4Dead with infected versus a group of survivors. Or having a "Horde" mode, please no.

Not that I noticed. I figured it was kind of automatic. If you move right to the end of a wall or behind cover the camera seems to pan over a little on its own.

There was a pretty big info dumb on it today... it's cryptic in some ways and you have to speculate a bit, but it's also really specific about many, many of the individual elements, so you have quite a lot of room to work and piece it all together.

I've been thinking about it, and I'm pretty confident I know what they're doing. It'll be fun in the near future to see if I was right or how far off I was.

For anyone who wants some more moderately cryptic info on the multiplayer, fadi002 from the Naughty Dog forums pulled a bunch of strings from the demo files and it reveals some really interesting stuff, I'm pretty sure this multiplayer will be a bit different from anything we've ever seen.

I would love to make a multiplayer discussion thread since I want to talk about what is in this pastebin here but I dont have thread making privileges (No SP spoilers as far as I know, read about 75% of it) for those on media blackout I will keep quiet.
