Polygon: Xbox One policy "gross, despicable, greedy, pathetic, cowardly"

Anti-middle class? Since when are the middle class not consumers?

Awful writing.

Ven diagram much?
VennDiagram_900.gif

It's anti consumer because it essentially fixes/inflates price for all who buy games for the system and it is anti middle class because a large portion of the middle class do not have the purchasing power to buy as many games on the Xbone as they do/ did on the 360.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
i checked agent coop's post history since i recall him acting like a normal human being in the ot. it's hilarious to see how he went from a seemingly regular poster to turning on the fucking astroturf afterburners with the 'family sharing is a system seller' horseshit.

I believe there is a member with the name AgentCooper and that is who you are thinking of. his guy only posted in OT a handfull of times.

Edit: Yup, here is his profile: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/member.php?u=545
Don't confuse the shill for the real thing.

Yeah a lot of the older shills seem to not post in gaming side except about Microsoft or against Sony.

So they act like regular posters in OT but there gaming posting seems suspicious.

I won't lie, I have, more or less, perfect internet connection. The last time I was disconnected was for a few hours a few years ago, but I'm lucky. I also don't buy or sell games, I very rarely lend or borrow games and, genuinely, the DRM and restricted sales doesn't affect me.

The biggest problem is the emphasis on cloud. With Simcity EA said that the game had to be online because the cloud was doing calculations that were needed. Modders found out that almost nothing was being done server side for the game just leaderboards and the market stuff.

The issue is that this is just slick DRM where they make a small portion of the game that is ONLY calculated through the cloud(harder to pirate) but they tell you that the cloud is needed. THEN eventually when the servers are reassigned or shut down entirely your game can no longer be played.

The used game stuff is bad but the artificial dependency on cloud will be much worse in the long run as it is inevitable that most of these games will be terminated. This is good for them because then they can sell us the games again digitally on future consoles(these ones of course won't need cloud because well it was never needed anyway.)

Holy crap. If this means he was what we all think he was, and that further implies tethering your Xbone to a cellphone to get around a bad home internet connection is an OFFICIAL rebuttal being told to be used to get around home ISP problems, then MS is will and truly f#&ed.

People aren't going to do some tech dork shit to play call of duty. Nor should they have to.

Not that I agree with everything that guy wrote, but I always have my phones sharing access points for purposes like that, and I've run my Xbox through it several times with ease. Most recently when I bought a new house and had to wait two weeks for fiber. It's pretty damn easy (At least where I live, I've heard that there's some limitations on tethering in the US?)

Well I'm kinda digressing, so moving on..

I question the "officialness" of this argument, it seems more like the guy was grasping at straws trying to find a rebuttal. Still laughable though.

And to think, this guy was working on a Saturday trying to convince us dorks that the Xbone is the greatest thing since Super Metroid (or *insert your favorite game here*). That's dedication.

The page was just taken down from Polygon. I was reading it, accidently refreshed and it's no longer available. The power of Microsoft?

Edit: It was just moved. My bad.

Your average consumer is in no way shape or form going to tether their phones to their game console.

Still up, you internet probably just went out ;)

It's still there, and I've never viewed the article until you mentioned it. So I think it's on your end. :p

Telcos here don't exactly like tethering

especially hilarious given that (officially) tethering your phone/turning it into a wifi hotspot through many Cellular carriers is "only" something ridiculous like $20 a month, not to mention caps.

unofficially, there are ways to do it but you're looking at a fraction of a percent of actual users with the knowledge and ability to do it out there.

maybe he was a regular gaffer, then he got the gig with MS

In the US tethering requires an additional monthly charge and has to be unlocked by the carrier

What if they aren't paid by marketers?

Remember the insane and painfully manufactured applause during the Xbone reveal? Those were microsoft employees right? What if, internally, employees of entire departments or divisions of Microsoft have been encouraged to join web communities in order to represent the company and product? Maybe they get some kind of incentive - a bonus or something. Maybe they have a competition of sorts with prizes. Thoughts?

Microsoft is paying these people to come onto forums and other social networking sites and make these arguments - they carry official weight in my book since MS deems them worth enough to pay for them. So, every ridiculous argument coming out of these people's mouths is an official statement from MS, IMO.

So... how do we differentiate astroturfers from fanboys? A forum without hardcore fanboys would be pretty boring, and it would be a shame to ban those poor souls.

Like the Salem witch trials...

Honestly, I don't know

Well, moderators and Evilore can compare IP addresses, registered Email addresses etc, I suppose. I'm pretty sure GAF only permabans when the agenda is really obvious.

Looking back, I'm starting to feel thankful to EA for being the first to introduce the "cloud gaming" marketing term on a large scale with Sim City, and fucking it up colossally. Marketing must hate that.

Thank you EA, for making your marketing ploy so transparent and easily proven that even the least critical gamer will look twice before buying it again.

Indeed.

I'm also happy that MS wasn't extra-clever with their online checks. I half expected an Amazon WhisperNet type thing. Super low bandwidth/cheap 3G chip. People wouldn't really know it was there until it started to bite them in the ass.

Is there any basis for banning those "shells"? I get that their opinions are biased but does that really warrant a ban? Are they getting banned because they just disagree with bish/us?

I don't know if it's that coordinated, but I'm sure at least some of them are Microsoft employees. There was that MS guy that randomly got into an argument with Jim Sterling on Twitter, and a few of the shills here have slipped up and used "we" a couple of times when referring to MS. Usually they're parroting the standard talking points of "don't fight the future" and "it's just like Steam".

I think a lot of them are just really passionate about the project (which is fine) and have no idea how to handle themselves on the internet (which is not fine). See: Adam Orth.

The crazy thing about reading that banned dudes words, they sound like the same arguments other people have been using. Now I'm confused if I've been arguing with Viral plants or legit crazy people the past few weeks.

Also the more time I have to think about the fact Microsoft is selling me a system that will literally stop me from gaming no matter how it's handled is making me less able to understand how how people really want to support this machine.

But how do we really know they are shills? Biased != shill.

They're one and the same - without any particular tinfoil, a rabid fanboy is a viral marketer

I imagine they are getting banned because they get into threads and shit up legitimate discussions. It redirects people from talking about the topic at hand to a non stop argument about stuff no one wants to read.

Look the one who just got banned in this thread. For 4 pages no one was talking about the article at hand. He completely derailed the thread.

We go about our business as normal and let the mods do what they need to do.

They're getting banned because it's their job to do this. And they don't disclose it, of course.

But derailing topics is the norm at GAF. Check any big thread's first page and last page. They usually have almost nothing in common. This is how GAF goes. I don't think that is a legitimate reason to ban people.

They're getting banned because it's their job to do this. And they don't disclose it, of course.

That is the part I don't understand. How do we actually know that this is their job? Just because they are using a corp email that means nothing. I registered with my university email here and if started defending my university in some threads, that does not mean that I am doing it only because I study there. I am genuinely believing my points and defend them regardless of my affiliation with my university.

I get that it is still very suspcios to have an MS email and defend the Xbone in here. But is it really ban-worthy? Do we really need this forum to become a hive mind in which we all agree that the Xbone is horrible? Isn't GAF all about the discussion and the conflict of opinions we have here?
