New York Knick Chris Smith speaks

“It bothers me a lot because I think people don’t really look at my talent, they just look at J.R. is here and he’s been here,” Chris Smith said. “I think if we weren’t brothers, there would be no recognition of me being his brother.

“I feel like I earned my position on the team and I’m going to keep on earning my way here.”
Looks like the Knicks have landed themselves a genius who will be earning his roster spot for a long time to come.

looks like the plan is to let Singleton and Ves walk, see what Gortat can do for us and if he fails we'll have cash ready to dole out a max contract.

Hoping the Pistons get enough from Smoove to consider Monroe as unnecessary.

Trevor will probably be available by the deadline. I see him going to the Clippers on a hometown discount if we don't extend him, and I don't think we will. Lakers don't really have great pieces for a trade though...I'd move Ariza for Jordan Hill and Kaman as center depth for a potential playoff run, but the Lakers clearly don't want to tank.

Uhhh, i think the plan will be to extend Gortat now that you have his bird rights.

He's going to be a UFA.

Worst case scenario for the Wiz: 9th in the Eastern Conference. Miss the playoffs, lose the 13th pick to Phoenix, Gortat walks in unrestricted free agency. Go directly to jail, do not collect $200.

As the deadline for Class of 2010 contract extensions looms at midnight on Friday, the Utah Jazz and forward Gordon Hayward remain far apart in discussions, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Talks are expected to pick up this week, but there's nothing resembling even the baseline for an agreement in place, sources told Yahoo.

For Hayward to turn down a four-year deal worth $40 million-plus, he'd risk the possibility of an injury this season that could impact his earning power as a restricted free agent in July 2014.

:/

He's not getting an extension unless he plays well or we get him to sign at a low cost. Just no reason to. We can always go back to Okafor as a stop gap until a better free agency class.

nah, worse case would be extending him to a shit contract even though he's trash WHILE missing the playoffs.

It's really not that bad if he walks. You make a play for Monroe and failing that, sign a couple of one year holdovers and then make a play for Gasol/Asik/Chandler in 2015.

Best thing about that is Grunsfeld is almost certainly fired.

Wiz should get their shit together because D.C. is an attractive location for free agents.

Uhh, Okafor is going to be traded once he's healthy again. There's a decent chance he's re-sign there. Its not like he owes the wiz anything.

Worst case is the wiz try to get cute with Gortats contract and you watch him sign with someone else and can't even get okafor back. Which would be a huge downgrade anyway.

And then you're fighting for Kaman/Dalembert/Hawes

Lol

go back to the lottery after going all in on a playoffs spot the year earlier, and make a play for a guy who isn't leaving his current team, Asik, and Broken 33yo chandler.

Sounds like a NYK sort of back up plan.

Fuck yes! Finally traded Gortat for a first, my mantra all off season. Alright, all my off season requests have been met, now the tanking game begins. Most of the other worst teams fucked themselves over with a single decent veteran signing so we are in a great position for the Wiggins contest. We never have luck at getting the first pick but 1. That has to change eventually and we've never had the worst record that I can recall entering the lottery and 2. We have enough picks for ammo to move up if need be.

Is Wiggins still standing far enough apart to be worth trading multiple firsts for? Or is this draft so loaded with high level talent that we'd be better off just picking four players from the first round? I know when you're rebuilding you want tons of picks but supposedly Wiggins is the best prospect since Lebron, I'm curious to see if that's still the case come draft time.

No one who wins the #1 pick is going to trade it, but 1-6 are basically all potential franchise players.

Wiggins, Randle, Embiid, Exum, Parker, and Gordon all could be great, but I doubt more than 2-3 of them look like franchise players by the time of the draft. I doubt teams after pick 5 will be that much more excited in this year's draft than other years.

That's contrary to every other report I've heard about this years draft.

This is apparently another really deep draft, hence why it's been so hard to get picks at all.

Well it is deep in potential right now since it has all six of those guys whereas other classes (like 2009 or 2011) usually are projected to only have a couple before the start of the season (Rubio and Mullens for 2009, Barnes and Perry Jones III for 2011), but the odds of there being so many more potential franchise players (compared to other drafts) by the time of the draft seems unlikely to me with each guy having so many questions.

Oh, when i say deep i mean in quality players all the way down, starters, not necessarily franchise. Which is what this one should have.

I don't know if anyone can really judge that this far in advance though. The 2011 draft was decried was mostly shallow back before the season started because there were only two guys (Barnes and Perry Jones III) that scouts thought could be stars and that draft produced a good deal of quality players. The 2012 draft was called very deep before the season because it had so many guys considered as potential stars (Davis, Drummond, Barnes, Beal, MKG, McAdoo), but it has had a lot of players in the process of flaming out of the league already. The potential stars are mostly the guys that seem to be talked about this far in advance of a draft.

Man I can only imagine if we finally got our first #1 pick at long last to snag Wiggins and then still had 3 first round picks left afterwards....can we just skip to the draft already?

I'm just hoping that the Suns can somehow grab Wiggins and Selden. Maybe Joel as well, even though he's a huge douche. KU reppin the Suns, brah.

Why would the better passer and more well-rounded game remind you of the worse passer and less well-rounded game?

I don't know too many names yet, way too early to do my research and I don't watch college. I know Wiggins is the cream of the crop and that Parker is supposed to be a nice consolation prize. Julius Randle is expected to be a beast at the 4 and....those three are all that I know about haha I'll probably peek at mocks all year since the Suns will be sucking and I'll start learning about the touted players that way. Unless one of you kind gents wants to make a list of the players to watch out for and what position they play so I can keep an eye out for them.

Dragon and Bled have us pretty set in the back court right now so big men are the most interesting. Oh, and welcome to Suns-GAF, brah. What position does Selden and Joel play?

Selden is a sg and Joel embiid is a beastly 7 footer. I'm probably going to several Ku games this year so I'll report back on how they are. From everything I've heard, Selden is apparently a freaking stud so far in practice.

For Curry, the Warriors big fear was that Charlotte would swoop in with huge money. For Bogut, Dallas made them nervous

Brandy saved from paying Bogut max money

Dragic is unlikely to be a sun by the time we draft next year.

And i'm not hanging my hopes on any one player now, too many big names in college have turned out to be terrible during the college season. Think Shabazz

I saw one page that had the top 10 or so prospects and saw Selden on there. If he puts up numbers it will be impressive with Wiggins on that roster. I only see us going 2 if we get rid of Dragic or Bled and McD loves him some Bledsoe so I fear my beloved Dragon may get an exit if Bled shows promise at the point considering he'll warrant a big contract to keep.

We have the money to keep both but yeah, as I said above I can see Dragic shipped if Bledsoe is all he's hyped to be. Maybe if they work extremely well as a tandem they won't be so eager to ship Dragic. It'll only happen if they really like a 2 in the draft like Selden and think they can get him with our second pick or if we get a solid 2 in whatever trade we'd make for Dragic.

As for hanging hopes on one player, I typically agree considering how many busts we've seen over the years and Shabazz is a great example of someone hyped to hell before his first college season but to be fair, they were just praising his scoring ability and not much else and even then, no one put him as being the best draft prospect since Lebron. Wiggins is more highly touted and with a more complete game than Shabazz, there doesn't seem to be doubts by anyone concerning him. Fortunately, we have a whole season in college to sample before making a draft decision regardless.

Rumors have it, Dragic isn't dependent upon a SG or anything, just best package. Though, as Dragic is young, and happy to rebuild, i think the Suns are more likely to want a v.good package in return for Dragic.

Or, maybe the better phrase is, attractive package.

Personally, i'd rather see him hang around, because if you remove too much talent, it's very hard for young players to develop. It's too hard for them to do anything at all.

And if Len has no one that can get him the ball then the season has been wasted. And i'm doubting Bledsoe's ability to run point.

Colts fans and organization had it soooo right. HOF superstar goes down. Tank so har for a year. Walk right into Andrew Luck.

We should have followed that blueprint.

I will never forgive the fucking Dolphins for not joining the Suck4Luck AFTER starting 0-7.

We could have luck throwing to Marshall ;_;

It's nice to picture Wiggins doing battle with Leborn while they're both in their primes, but in today's NBA it seems more likely that they'll end up on a superteam together.

Tannehill isn't that bad for you guys...he's no Luck but he is also no Chad (pick one) and at least you have a QB.

My QB is out for the year with an ACL tear. :/

Rumors from where? I can't see what reason we'd want to get rid of him unless they end up liking Bledsoe better at point and think Dragic doesn't work at the 2 but I doubt Bledsoe would be better at point than Dragic like you. I don't think Dragic's deal is unreasonable and we have the money to pay Bledsoe. I can't imagine us going after a star at this juncture and needing to get Dragic off the books for that... Maybe they are really just that high on Bledsoe and think he's the only starting building block we need and want to liquify Dragic, our most valuable trading piece, into as many picks as possible for a rebuild. I don't know man, I just want to keep the guy and hope that Bledsoe looks good beside him. If they pan out as a tandem and Len develops, that's a good start for the rebuild along with all the draft picks we have. If we are lucky enough to get a potential superstar in Wiggins, what a start.

If the suns can't get wiggins we need to go for Randle I think he is easily the next best at the moment.
I think we're all on the same page there. I have to believe we at least get second pick if the lottery fucks us out of the first and what I've read of Randle makes me feel a lot better about our prospects. We'll see how their college season plays out.

You're thinking about it in terms of keeping a favored player. McD is just thinking about it in terms of what is the best and quickest way to rebuild.

They've pretty much come out and said that Bledsoe is the one they want to rebuild with out of the two players. I don't know why. I don't rate him as a play making PG. I think Dragic is much more skilled. But eh.

And it's not a question of money, the Suns need to stay above the salary floor, so if they trade Dragic, they'd have to do it for just about equal salary. It's purely a question of what they can get back. I don't really see any huge net gain in the trade. No overwhelming demand for PG's out there. There's probably a surplus if anything.

But if they could get back Lance Stephenson and another first round pick or two out of Indiana i think they'd seriously look at it. That'd be one boneheaded back court though. Lance and Bledsoe.

No, I'm just excited to se ee New York Knick Chris Smith ride the pine at his first regular season NBA game.
Someone wasn't here Friday. I told everyone Chris Smith will be the last guy cut, and the coaches will be like "Sorry man I fought for you I believe in you man" while snickering to themselves.

Now that JR is locked up there's no way they pick Chris over Toure Murray.

I agree with pretty much all of this. If Bledsoe resigns before the season starts I could see Dragic getting traded around the time of the trade deadline or next off season. Especially if we don't get the number one pick and it looks like our best option is a sg like parker. McD prefers Bledsoe to dragic (I prefer Dragic as well but I think Bledsoe has the higher upside).

But Dragic isn't going anytime soon since there isn't really anything good we can get back from him. Maybe shumpert or something from new york but thats unlikely.

edit - and Paul Coro is reporting that Len might night play on opening night because of a sore ankle. I hope that's not a recurring problem.
