PS4 demo kiosks are starting to pop up at Gamestop & Best Buy

i've been begging for over 5 years.
What this can't be right. Is this because of the Taco Bell giveaway? :lol

L.A. got another BB and GS unit over night. I'm guessing they probably are shipping them from PS HQ in the bay area and we should see the country light up over the next week.

I'd have to drive to Tysons Corner to try one out. That's about 1.5 hours away. I drove that to see the 3DO before it launched, but gas was only $1 a gallon back then. I don't think I would want to risk traveling route 7 anymore, either. lol.

Ok Dallas folks. They're here!

The map currently shows two but a lot of Gamestops got them late this evening. I randomly walked into the large Gamestop in Plano on Preston/Park next to the Whole Foods and they had just set it up.

Same demos as the Sony store but there's a Vita attached to it with new demos.
Honestly, Tearaway was the best thing I played.

I need to check out Michigan, if my GS has one then I definitely know what I'm going to do.

EDIT: Darn, almost none in my area. Kinda not surprised.

Nothing shows up for me, but i had a family member that manages a wal mart tell me they set up their ps4 and xbox one kiosks today. Going check them out tomorrow.

No units in Portland, wtf. Not even Seattle!

Had to quit after one match of Halo 2 vista because it was not comfortable at all, hands starting hurting. Disappointing considering the controller felt good in my hands before I actually played a game with it. :S Hopefully I get used to it or it feels better at launch with actual PS4 games to play. Otherwise I'll be on the lookout for one of those converters that let you plug in a 360 or Xbone controller.
Damn, that sucks. I played 16+ hours of The Last of Us with it and had no issues.

Played it today and will give more detailed impressions after I get some sleep, but the available demo games are abysmal. I overheard several people complain about the games (Knack being the biggest offender) looking like glorified PS3 games. Sony has got to do what they can to get better looking stuff in those kiosks, NBA 2K14 perhaps?

Yeah, the GS at the Parks Mall in Arlington was setting up their kiosk on Wednesday around lunch. I'd assume that it's playable at this moment. I never got to try it though as I had to head back to class. :(

Nice, still shitty selection of demos that doesn't show off the system very well. I'd guess stores like GS and Best Buy will put their own games in there pretty soon though once it launches.

It doesn't help that the best demo material is M rated. Don't get me wrong, I am actually looking forward to Knack, but it is hardly the graphical powerhouse that Killzone Shadowfall is. KZ SF would blow people away if they could play a demo of that. Better demos will come though. Driveclub I bet would be great demo material, and of course in March MLB the Show will be featured on every PS4. Infamous SS would be an awesome demo as well since I think that is Teen rated.

Anyway I am just excited to play on the system at all at this point.

My local Sony Store had one in. The controller felt good, Knack looked alright. The biggest problem was the TV they had it hooked up to was horribly calibrated. It looked like every setting was on 100.

They had a 4K TV setup as well which looked absolutely draw dropping. I didn't think the difference would be that big coming from 1080p, but it really is like looking through a window.

Were they showing that UNESCO/Tokyo Broadcasting System footage of world heritage sites in your store? They were showing that on one of the 4K televisions in the New York store and it was astonishing.

Stopped by GS today and noticed they had a kiosk setup. The clerk said she set it up a couple days ago. I was in a rush, so I didn't play anything, but I just wanted to feel the controller. It felt fantastic, best PS controller yet. I was intrigued by impressions that the longer handles of the DS4 makes the thumbstick placement feel more like the 360's. Well, after trying it myself, I don't agree. I guess it's somewhere between the 360 and DS3, and for some gamers who prefer the 360 stick layout, the DS4 may be a good enough compromise, and for others not so much. The D-pad is also the best on a PS controller to date, too. I'm gonna hold out for the U.S. release of the red and blue DS4s as well as an inevitable white one before I buy my set of 4 DS4s.

Only 2 more weeks!

Hey! Second post on NeoGAF after being a lurker for quite a few years... I can´t post new threads yet because my account is new, but this thread seems quite suitable for what I´m about to post: DigiExpo (Helsinki, Finland) PS4 impressions!

Disclaimer: I´m mostly a PC gamer these days. Image quality is important to me and I sold my last gen consoles around a year ago because I couldn´t play low fps 720p (or less) anymore. I´ve been a "core gamer" (had PS1-3, NES, N64, DreamCast, Xbox, Xbox360) all my life, but lately the only game I´ve been playing every now and then has been Starcraft 2. I´m getting one of the next gen consoles though, I just don´t know which one yet! So when I read about DigiExpo having both next gen consoles present I went to try them out to see which preorder I´ll end up keeping.

Hardware: The controller felt like an improved DualShock from PS3. Nothing special. I´m much more a fan of the Xbox 360 (and One) controller mostly due to the thumbstick placement, but it wasn´t bad either. The thumbsticks have been improved and the triggers are better too. The actual console itself was nowhere to be seen, I think all the games were running on devkits since if they had final hardware why not show it!

Games: I only played Shadowfall (yes, there was a 18+ booth section). I had pretty high expectations for this game as it looks great in videos so far, but I have to be honest: it was disappointing. The framerate seemed a bit unstable, the level was a (mostly) bland skyscraper one and the gameplay was just your standard console FPS with some extra touches like the flying drone. There were glitches in the graphics and it did not look all that sharp despite being 1080P. I would guess there is zero AA in use as there was some heavy aliasing, but I have no idea how old the build was. I had hoped to get to play the forest level but it wasn´t available. To be fair I´ve never liked the Killzone series at all, but this is the first one I´m somewhat interested in. Overall Ryse and Forza 5 both looked better graphics wise to me. I´ll be waiting for reviews.

Some short graphics impressions of games I watched others play:

- Resogun: best PS4 game at the show. Gameplay looks fun and the voxel effects are neat. Besides the huge explosions there´s nothing that couldn´t be done on current gen hardware though, it´s a standard 2Dish shooter. Good indie game, but not a system seller.

- AC4: looks like a higher resolution PS3 game with improved textures and effects. I don´t think there´s AA in use, seemed quite jaggy. Gamma seemed off too.

- Knack: very clean IQ, definitely running in native 1080P. Could use some AA though. Very good texture work and the gameplay looked pretty fun too. Framerate isn´t rock solid. Out of the big budget games, Knack was the best PS4 game on the show to me.

It´s clear this is first gen software on a new system. There´s no system seller material anywhere to be seen if you ask me. I haven´t made up my mind which preorder I´m keeping, but right now I´m feeling like going Xbox One despite it being delayed in my country. I know this isn´t what GAF wants to hear and I might be accused of being a shill, but I have to me honest: despite PS4 being 50% more powerful GPU wise it sure didn´t look that way at DigiExpo. If I didn´t know about specs and had to guess the difference I´d say they are equal. If I was told one is slightly faster, I would say the X1 was the more powerful one. My advice for next gen day 1 buyers: no matter if you go Sony or Microsoft, keep your expectations low.

Finally got a unit outside of Boston! Planning on heading there after work today, so I'll post impressions later, although I doubt I'll have anything to say that hasn't been said.

You think Forza looks better graphically than killzone Shadowfall? But the only game you actually played was KZSF? So what are you basing the comparisons off of?

Graphically what did you think looked better in Forza?

And we have clear quantitative evidence that the extra power in the PS4 is being used effectively, see BF4 (900p vs 720p) and COD (1080p vs 720p). Simply because you likely got an old build of SF doesn't say much at this point.

I haven´t made up my mind which preorder I´m keeping, but right now I´m feeling like going Xbox One despite it being delayed in my country.

But you literally complained about not being able to play 720p and 30 fps games?

Disclaimer: I´m mostly a PC gamer these days. Image quality is important to me and I sold my last gen consoles around a year ago because I couldn´t play low fps 720p (or less) anymore.

What do you think is going to happen to MS multiplats in a couple of years if they can't even hit 1080p now?

You know, I thought about going to a kiosk to check out PS4 but I changed my mind. Its 2 weeks until launch so I figured it'll be more fun to experience all that stuff (controller, seeing graphics first hand, interface, etc) when I finally get my own PS4 on the 15th.

I'd rather have all of that kind of fun all at once rather than parsing it out as launch day approaches.

Can't wait to try this sucker out again. Previously played at a nearby Sony store.

Slightly off topic, totally just noticed the blog post author's name...I went to high school with her. I knew she worked for Sony but it's the first time recognizing her name on the blog. Just a tad jealous...

I'm pretty sure I told everyone gamestop would have them by the end of the month. Regardless, it's time to mozey on down to the gaming hole and check it out.

I'm at that point too. Granted, if I'm walking through a shop and I happen to see one, I doubt I'd be able to resist but I'm done searching for these kiosks. 13 more days isn't long to wait.

Insane For Sony
vrln, wonder if TVs at Sony's booth were badly calibrated or had something like massive image sharpening enabled. KZ:SF is definitely using AA. In screens and videos it looked like a pretty solid looking kind of AA too. As for framerate being unstable, it looked like it was always 40FPS+ in Blim's latest video, so it would be unstable in a good way at least (not 30-and-below unstable). On the other hand, in screens F5 looked like it has no actual AA, but slight motion blur takes care of much of aliasing.

What did you mean by Knack having great IQ, but could use AA? What's so great about it compared to KZ, for which you also said that it lacks AA.

That is some amazing self-pwnage right there.

By the way, Google will auto translate Finnish to English.

No, he said in another thread XB1 kiosks were at the Pelaja magazine booth, not at Microsoft's booth. I have no problem believing him, if he's being super discerning over the image quality. Still, kind of strange to call KZ:SF a jaggy mess. I just don't see how a game that's 1080p, even if it has no AA (and KZ has it...) be so bad. I've seen 1080p games with no AA on my TV and they actually look pretty fine. KZ:SF image quality seemed pretty damn good in every direct feed footage I've seen. Certainly no worse than F5, which also has very weak or no AA.

Perhaps you´re jumping to conclusions too fast: http://www.pelaajalehti.com/uutiset...oft-tuovat-xbox-onen-testattavaksi-digiexpoon

Assuming Google translate works with Finnish, there´s your proof. Xbox One is at the Pelaaja booth (Gamer magazine). I have a lot of pictures on my phone to prove it too. Glad to see you guys trust new members!

SwiftDeath: Why are you double posting the same comments on both threads? I´ve replied to you here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=706845&page=10

You are misinterpreting my post pretty heavily. I never claimed that Xbox One will have better looking games in the long run. The only thing I said is that the games displayed at DigiExpo looked technically more impressive on the Microsoft side of the fence. I fully agree with you that the PS4 is more powerful and that multiplatform games will end up superior on Sony.

Lord Error: Forza 5 to me looked like it had some sort of AA in addition to being 1080P. I could be wrong though. I suspect the Killzone build I played was a pretty old one. It did not look anywhere near as good as the videos I´ve seen of it lately. I´m pretty sure it didn´t have any sort of AA enabled, at least that´s how jaggy it looked. Knack had very high resolution textures everywhere while Killzone had some pretty blurry ones mixed in. Knack somehow looked sharper, as if running in a higher resolution than Killzone. It had aliasing, but it wasn´t as distracting as in Killzone, very different art direction so it´s hard to tell though. I wouldn´t be suprised if some TV´s were indeed not calibrated correctly. Something seemed off.

Sorry if I am wrong, just seemed strange a guy state he is an impartial PC guy who likes 1080p60 ....then knocks killzone graphics, ps4 controller and every game except Knack is OK, and then glow on every MS exclusive and saying how 720p games look great....

Read the 2 reports, it does not read like a normal review

Anyway, I will believe my own eyes and direct feed videos, sorry vrln but I don't agree with you
