There are much worse fates than making excellent traditional 2D platformers. They aren't exactly raining from the skies here.

Oh yeah, totally agree, and that's why I'm excited for Tropical Freeze. Do you understand why I still want something more, though, even though platformers are my favorite genre?

I really wish more developers would make 60fps mandatory. I really admire Nintendo for their dedication to solid game mechanics and feel.

You have nostalgia memory. I just played it. Go and see how dated it looks for yourself.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

Why on earth is the DKCR screenshot blown up to heck and back and the DKCRTF screenshot smaller than native resolution?

Regardless, besides resolution and fur shading, the two games do look about the exact same in fidelity.

I know you aren't asking me, but I understand. I wonder what a lot of developers could do with more freedom. What could else could Kojima make with the same budget and development period as Metal Gear? What could Aonuma do if he weren't stuck with Zelda? Hopefully after Tropical Freeze Retro will go in another direction yet again. But honestly after reading your preview, I don't think it would be appropriate, and certainly not professional for you to review the game.

It's more accurate to use an upressed DKCR screen.

Why is it more accurate to use an emulated resolution not possible on the intended hardware? Also, did anyone play the game around E3 at Best Buy? These 30FPS trailers don't do it justice. It looks great in motion.

Because it looks very similar to the Wii game, just upressed with better fur. This is not what you'd hope for out of a generational leap.

I don't know what you wanted then. When the art style carries over its going to look similar no matter what. The size of the stages, the number of enemies on screen, the amount of detail in foliage and the resolution have all gotten a serious bump.

It's really a testament of what Rare was able to hide on the Wii that we're able to have this discussion.

There's a pretty obvious increase in the environmental geometry, and many levels seem to have a LOT more going on at once, both visually and mechanically. I don't think I would hold Tropical Freeze up as a Graphical Tour de Force, but it's more than an "uprezzing"

The game looked great on Wii, but it's disappointing that they didn't change the art style at all to account for the increase in power. I think that's a valid complain about the game. I would not be surprised at all if this was originally intended for Wii.

So it's like past gen, where 360/PS3 games looked just like uprezzed Xbox games? Case in point:

That's not a generational leap.

Yes, let's generalize an entire generation leap by two games.

it has better textures, better resolution, great framerate, more complex polygons for background, camera movement, and THE FUR. at 60fps will play glorious

To cut a small break from the grafx bs, I think the game actually looked pretty fun.

I generally don't like 2d platformers and when Donkey Kong was revealed it really was "fucking donkey kong" to me (because Retro was working on that instead of some other thing). The trailer looked pretty meh anyway, it seemed just another 2d platformer (I hate judging like that, but it really did seem like that to me).

But this trailer did certainly pique my interest. I still most likely won't buy the game though, it's certainly not that interesting to me, but maybe I'll give it a chance some day some year in the future.

I'm curious as to what people are expected. You can't really do crazy shadowing and lighting effects otherwise you'll impact the gameplay. Do you want particle effects all over the screen or normal maps/specular on every texture which you can't really make out in a youtube video or screenshot very well)?

lol the same people looking at a Wii to Wii U screen shot comparison and saying that there's not all that much difference are the same type of people who look at Killzone 3 and Killzone Shadowfall and say that there is a leap. Pathetic.

I think there is a leap in both games. I'll take DK from a gameplay perspective all day long. FPS games have been beaten to death for me.

Two completely different games, developers, and art styles, and neither screenshot shows the game in their native resolutions.

My roommate has a 720p TV, and I can say that console games look better on his TV than my 1080p set. I don't know how 1080p content looks on his set, though, outside of Blu-rays.

Dat native res. Upgrading from my 1360x768 TV to 1080p was pointless last console generation. Thank god I got a PC, really helped justify my 1080p set lol.

Definitely should be 1080p considering how it looks, but glad to hear it. Hopefully with the fact there's no mine cart world and the David Wise soundtrack and no shake to roll, I make actually enjoy this one :D

In that case you should compare next gen games with pc versions of current gen games running in 1080p.

I don't follow. Anyways, there's not many points of comparisons with next gen / current gen PC games. Most games that you can compare are cross-gen which defeats the point.

I wish I could more clearly listen to the music in this game in these videos. :/

Looking at the 1080p video on Nintendo's youtube channel I can tell it's most being upscaled from 720p. You can notice dem jaggiez on the characters easily during the Kong-Pow thing.

The game doesn't look like exactly what I hoped for from an HD DKC, but the Wii comparisons are ridiculous. You could probably do the same thing with Rayman Origins Wii to PS3

Also where did this 1080p info come from?

Not even Mario 3D World looked obviously better than the last version (Galaxy), or at least not at reveal and I feel DKCRTF falls into the same pit. In fact, the only Nintendo game that manged to pull off the "Finally, Nintendo Games in HD!" feel at E3 was Mario Kart 8. Pikmin 3 had limited to success in that area and NSMBU completely whiffed.

Did you play DKCR on the 3DS? No shake to roll was glorious.

Every time I watch a DKCTF trailer The theme gets stuck in my head. Sooo goood.
