Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It's a little early I know, two days early in fact; but I just got back from an employee Turkey Day dinner at work and am bloated beyond capacity with nearly every manner of holiday dish you can think of, and I really went all out because this was pretty much the only Thanksgiving meal I'll get this year. So full... so sleepy... zzz...

Also, playing with the format a little bit. Let me hear your thoughts.

SEP100496 SAVAGE DRAGON #166 $3.50

sfdY4.jpg

It's an event so unexpected -- so shocking -- that nothing will ever be the same. And we can't tell you a thing about it!

Prepare to have your senses shattered this Wednesday with the release of SAVAGE DRAGON #166 from Image Comics -- it's unlike anything you have ever read or imagined! Savage Dragon has reverted to his original identity, the evil Emperor Kurr, and... but that would be telling.

"There was a time when readers didn't know what to expect from the next issue of their favorite comic book," says Savage Dragon creator Erik Larsen, "There were no sneak peeks, no previews or online news sources spelling out, in excruciating detail, what was going to happen in the comic books that were going to be released -- and I think that's taken away a lot of the excitement of going to the comic book store. I want to bring that excitement back!"

Make no mistake: SAVAGE DRAGON #166 and #167 contain huge, cataclysmic Earth-altering events. Your mind will be blown! Your senses will be shattered! But just this once, we'd prefer not to spell out the how, when and why -- we'd prefer you find out about it in the pages of the comics themselves.

"Since stepping down from his roll as Publisher a couple years back, Erik has quietly been producing one of the most uncompromising comics on the market," adds Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. "Where a lot of comics offer the illusion of change, SAVAGE DRAGON has continued to push boundaries and the events of these two issues take Erik's forward-looking approach to its ultimate conclusion. If you've ever been interested in this title, you definitely do not want to miss these two issues."

Pretty good week considering the big holiday, usually it's the opposite. For me it'll Batwoman #0 of course, along with Action Comics, Batman & Robin (Cornell!), the series finale of Madame Xanadu, Ultimate Spidey's 150th, Fantastic Four, Thor the Mighty, Uncanny X-Force, Conan's final issue under the "Cimmerian" moniker, maybe Vampi and a trade or two. Good week for trades, what with the big shopping holiday and all.

Happy reading! :D

EDIT: Thinking of making an official Batwoman thread for GAF, does that interest anyone?

Can someone tell me if Deadpool's graphic novel is good? I recently got interested in the character with "Merc with a mouth", very funny and great art. Then I read some Deadpool Corps and found it very "meh". Any opinions would be appreciated.

So I just read Batman Year 100 by Paul Pope - WHY IS THIS NOT ALWAYS RECOMMENDED?!?!?!?

Seriously, it's better than half the Frank Miller Bats stuff. It's so visually dynamic, the storytelling is incredible, his panel composition is up there with anyone's, it's like he just throws out iconic image after iconic image. The dialogue & plot are spot on, so much tension.

The Bat canon should totally be: Killing Joke, Year One, Dark Knight Returns, Long Halloween, RIP & Year 100.

************

I was gonna drop Batman & Robin now that Morrison's moved on because he's impossible to follow, but then I read the preview & Cornell is somehow managing to keep the same insane tone. I'll check it out.

That uncanny x-men makes me laugh. I just imagine Wolverine's caption being "Oh NOES!!!"

and a part of me would like to read Savage Dragon but i stopped reading around issue #20 :lol I have no idea where to start now

Dan

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
These will all be mine:
* Chew Vol. 3
* Ex Machina Vol. 10 (though I only just read Vol. 2)
* The Walking Dead Vol. 13

Luna Park has been on my list too. I might have to bite on the paperback.

Yay Batwoman! Look forward to reading the new ongoing in, oh, 14 months when it's collected.

I assume you're talking about Wade Wilson's war... It was a cool standalone story. It's not cannon so if you go further down the Deadpool hole then it's not going to affect anything you're reading there. I'd wait for the Paperback imo, not worth an 'immediate' read. Or better yet find a shop that has all the floppies (probably cheap now because they didn't sell well and they're a few months old).

I'm tempted to get Thunderstrike for sh*tty 90's nostalgia. :D

Sgt. Frog and Savage Dragon fo' sho.

Dat Davis cover on FF. Namor, big pimpin' as always. B*tches love that fish stick.

I forgot about Vampirella! I'll see if the art isn't crap and go off that.

I'd give it a pass. I love Jason Pearson, but the story was pretty crap. That guy's writing (Swierczynski or some crap) is really awfully mediocre and the book reminded me of some other meta stuff I read fairly close to that.

Pearson's art on it is fantastic; but the combination of lame character and bad writing can't save it from it's sad fate.

He did a bat-book and I honestly liked it better than Heavy Liquid (though I want to read HL again, as a deconstruction of genre. I think it probably needs to be read more than once).

You can't do it justice with just a couple of panels, but the whole thing is just bonkers:

meh thunderstrike isnt thor anymore so to speak its definitely its own book, no thor at all in the first issue at least :p . Ultimate Thor i will pretend doesnt exist just like the rest of the Ultimate universe. For Asgard and FIrst Thunder are mini series they should be nearing their close. Loki and Warriors Three ...meh i dunno dont think they are on goings either, avengers Prime should be nearly done. Astonishing and Thor are the only ongoings..., oh and you forgot the Thor / Ironman miniseries lol.

You should be reading Ultimate! I don't care about the Ultimate universe either, but Hickman is Hickman and it's more compelling than the main series. Thunderstrike is definitely a spinoff being brought back due to the recent surge in Thor's popularity. Most of the other series are minis, but it still remains that every week there are two or three Thor things on the shelves. It's kind of a lot.

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"
huh. a new issue of firebreather comes out in time for the series. shocked there. i wonder if its going to remain more constant, or if its going to suffer from delays like normal

Last week's issue of Batman was the return of Tony Daniel right? I stopped reading it back after RIP and I wanted to get back into it for Inc. I know Fabian Nicieza was writing some filler arcs that I'm not too interested in.

I have a question about the True Blood books.
TVnDm.jpg

Is anyone reading this? Does it tie in with the HBO series? Does it give any insight or behind the scenes type info. that relates to the series or is it just more of a stand alone type thing?

I've been skimming them in the store. They are a stand alone series. The events in the comic aren't portrayed in the books or show. Not really sure how it is supposed to fit story-wise into the greater brand if at at all.

Picked up Chew tpb 3. Ultimate Spidey, Final Batman Beyond issue (haven't read it yet but after reading this + Zatanna, Beechen is on my will not buy list so will skip the ongoing), and Batwoman #0.

I'll probably hold off buying any more Batwoman and just get the collected versions just to keep my monthlies down.

I'll definitely get it then. I picked up a few ago 100% after enjoying a lot his Doc Strange story in Wednesday Comics and loved it. I've been looking into reading a bit more of indie stuff so recommandation like that are always appreciated!

Small week for me, I'm only getting B&R and Gen Lost.

That's Scott McDaniel, he drew Nightwing for years. I think he's only doing the Cornell fill-in arc; when Tomasi comes aboard Patrick Gleason of GLC comes with him.

And Batwoman #0 was GODLIKE. Easily the best Bat-book this month in my opinion, and that says a lot considering the Bat-books we've gotten.

Oh excellent. It's not that it's bad per se, I just don't like his faces. I do enjoy Gleason though, so I'm looking forward to that.

Yeah Batwoman #0 was excellent, and I enjoyed the wrap up of the Beyond mini. Although all things considered I'm disappointed it wasn't
Damian mentoring Terry instead of Bruce
