Not a bad move... the people at Sony realized they don't really have any system-movers this holiday season, so why not lock up the "better" Destiny?
I'm unlikely to get Destiny either, but this is just the last straw. My main issue with Destiny is, both as a Halo fan and as an FPS fan in general, I just don't think it looks particularly interesting. While there have been many positive impressions coming from the alpha, I often disagree with others' opinions (it's also worth noting that, with the alpha being exclusive to PS4, many of those impressions are coming from people who have never spent any significant amount of time playing Halo), and there's no way for me to check first hand unless I preorder (as someone with serious doubts, why would I?) or I get lucky with a beta code.
And then there's the Master Chief collection, which I know I'll be spending a lot of time with later this year. One would think that they'd be throwing all they've got into combating that, but no.
As a long time fan, I used to worry about Bungie getting themselves into a potentially dangerous position with Destiny - first with it being such a huge project, and such a long-lasting commitment to Activision, of all publishers; and then with it being so closely tied to a single platform holder - but the further this exclusive charade gets, the less I care. If Destiny fails to meet Bungie's and Activision's expectations, they have nobody but themselves to blame.
That said, I'd love to be proven wrong and swayed into supporting - and enjoying - Destiny.
The article says "even if Microsoft want us to shift platform", which is worded in a way to suggest that they didn't. I think you are reading it wrong.

See this is why I like Sony. They actually form partnerships to get DLC instead of money hatting like Microsoft does.
Maybe so, difference is, Microsoft would get the entire game exclusivity and make it so noone else could play it. This is far better IMO.
Meme worthy.
Also, have you not noticed that many PS4 users that played the Destiny alpha did at one point have or still do own a 360 and played plenty of Halo

If only the platform holders had enough capable first party developers to create actual exclusives than to need to entice third parties with bags of money to produce what-seems-to-be trivial exclusive content to differentate from their competitors.A hell only escapable by Nintendo returning to the top of the food chain. ( and 3rd-party games losing their relevance of current multi-million selling power that makes platform holders beg on their knees for exclusive content )

Sony is out there to promote the indies and Bungie is independent. I wonder if this DLC is handled via Sony's Pub Fund.Yeah, this is completely the opposite of what Ms does with CoD. Obviously Ms are evil because it does so only to leave content out of competing platforms, Sony is just helping promoting a game Bungie or Activision wouldn't be able to hype otherwise.

I'm in for the PS4 version, but Indications seem to be that there's plenty of game even without this stuff. I wouldn't dwell on it too much tbh, it's going to be a great game no matter where you play it.
My general feeling about exclusive DLC, timed or otherwise, is that if it's enough to actually make any real difference as far as the whole of the game is concerned, somebody dun fuckt up.

NoNoNoNoNo. GAF demands the fruits of competition. Just not, you know, these fruits. We're very particular. Not sure what all the bitching is about. This is just the lastest verse in a long-running song. Until we reach the One Console Future, these things will happen.
Does a true Bungie fan really begin and end with Halo? The Myth games were pretty awesome too.John||V|| said:I don't agree with some of the people saying true Bungie fans would buy a PS4 for this game.
Business decision.
Makes the platform holder's current fan base even more satisfied knowing that the games coming out for their system are better than the ones coming out on the other system (cosmetically, extra features, etc.) Even if its the same title.
Those same people that the platform holder is pleasing with these deals will further run tell that to their friends and associates and it will further enhance the notion that the best place to play is on that system. Timed exclusive whether it be timed for a game or times for DLC are one and the same in that it allows a platform holder to prop their system up as a better system for this reason or that reason. People eat it up and if you're already in the ecosystem you have further details to share with your friends who would in turn by the system and tell their friends.
They're not thinking about creating a fair playground for everyone to get along in. They're trying to sell systems. They're making it more and more attractive and they're helping the people they already have playing their system tell more people about it.
They're also targeting the gamers who aren't on forums discussing the merits and morality of timed DLC, but instead see a cool commercial on TV and notice that its associated with their brand.
Is this what you expected gaming to become 15 years ago? Probably not.
But the signs were there all of last gen. 3 systems fighting for the dollars, 2 of which share a similar platter of Gamez. The one that can seperate itself from the other with what seems like a "better" deal or "more to offer" will look more appetizing and that's what helps the sales.
It happens. It works. And it will CONTINUE to work.
Don't like it? Don't buy the game associated with it.

So we finally have a "Bungie has shot themselves in the foot" meme to replace the old, overused "Square has shot themselves in the foot" one. Nice.
What is this... I don't even...
Really don't even know how to respond to this nonsense. Making that big a deal over a few armor sets and a strike? In a game that has hundreds of each?
PS4 owners have never spent time with Halo? What? I have played and beat every Halo game, multiple times, read the books, rewatched the trailers, and have a cat helmet and noble team statue in my place. But because I have a PS4 my opinion is void?

My main issue with the whole exclusivity deal is the exclusive alpha (I don't know what the deal is with beta on PS4, but from what I know, it will be closed on Xbox One). I thought that much was clear from my post, but if it wasn't, I apologize. The game just doesn't look very appealing to me at the moment, and going by the impressions in the alpha thread, many people there also entered with low or lowered expectations, so I don't know why that point of view seems to be controversial to some of you.
question has to be asked as to how the developer of Microsoft's biggest first party series is now making a multi platform game with long term exclusive content on the PS4? Something really went wrong in this relationship.....were Microsoft really pushing them to just keep on making Halo games?

And that's why I said "many" - not "all" or even "most". I believe that much is true, and that's just one of the reasons why spending some hands-on time with the game before committing to it is a must for me.

i am a hardcore halo fan. i can't tell you how often i played through all it's games. i read every book and spend so much money on it. i love it.
and after playing the destiny alpha..halo looks boring for me. i won't buy an xbox one anymore, because i would have bought it only for halo.
this is of course my personal opinion, like you have yours

What you know is wrong, the beta will be on the Xbox one as well. Come on, don't be angry if you don't at least do some research.
Q: How do I get a Destiny Beta code?
You may reserve your spot in the Beta by pre-ordering a copy of Destiny from participating retailers.
Q: My retailer isn’t participating in the Destiny Beta program. How can I get a Destiny Beta code?
You must pre-order from a participating retailer to gain access to the Destiny Beta.
You are seeing what you want to see. The impressions were overwhelmingly positive if you took any time to read at all.
That doesn't sound like an open beta to me.
Oh, the irony... Please go back and read my posts with understanding. Yes, I know the reactions to the beta are overwhelmingly positive. but that doesn't mean much to me since people often have overwhelmingly positive opinions of games that I don't find nearly as interesting. I need to try it myself before I become a convert. Or not.
*squints* Sony got some extras, that doesn't necessarily make it a worse product on other platforms. You're absolutely right. I see no reason to champion the kind of competition that involves paying to make the product worse on other platforms.
I got my information from the Destiny website.

So it's basically PS4 exclusive. Who cares about some maps and some sp content one year after launch?
I'd rather see some exclusive games for every party instead of this "timed" exclusive bullshit, console debut etc..
I'm not sure you are using irony correctly here but ok.
Totally get that you would want to try it out yourself. You should get an opportunity with the beta. Hope you enjoy it as much as many other people did!
You were complaining about me not having read the alpha thread impressions, when it was in fact you who hasn't fully read my posts, or at least read them with understanding; you just saw what you wanted to see. Not that it matters much, but that's a school example of irony.
Thanks, that's my hope as well, even though I'm not seeing it at the moment, and I am bitter that Bungie has made it so hard for a lot of their fans to get their hands on the game early. I'm not ready to preorder, and I really don't like the practice of preordering, then canceling. My only hope right now is grabbing a beta code on Twitter or somewhere, since I'm sure that someone will be handing them out.

I can see it now:
Jack Tretton sends an anonymous letter to Bobby Kotick made up of cuttings of magazine and newspaper letters. "Meet me in the car park at midnight, come alone". During the meeting Jack doesn't show his face but offers three briefcases full of money to Bobby for exclusivity of some content to his platform, Jack doesn't specify which platform just yet so Bobby stays interested, it is assumed that the next Xbox will beat the next PlayStation so revealing that he is buying exclusive content for PS4 wouldn't help just yet. Bobby, interested in the cash asks "for which game?". "Destiny.", Jack replies.
Bobby, still interested in the cash proceeds with a little caution, he is wary that the anonymous buyer could be from PlayStation and that the developers have a special relationship with Xbox fans, but interested in the cash they shake on a deal. Bobby, to his great horror, discovers that he has just signed away 12 months of exclusivity on certain content to Sony, the makers of the PS4. He can't take it back though, the cash has been accepted and they have shaken on it. Bobby is a man of his word, but he does curse the anonymous stranger and prays for the forgiveness of Xbox fans around the world.
