Dragon Quest X |OT| Import Solution Found

And even i am moderately surprised
I've been watching these streams trying to think about what the Wii U version can improve on the looks of this game

I need to go watch some HD MMOs to compare

I've seen a few shots where the game looks super clean but in reality the game looks pretty janky to be honest, however i have a feeling that the game would look pretty sweet (especially with the shading/art style)

I'd have to loosen my pants if the game looked anywhere near the cut scenes.

DONT go in expecting this to be a looker - it's got some nicely designed stuff in offline, at the moment i'm stuck in dullsville horror colourscheme of the Ogre home town, and i've got my expectations set early doors in terms of graphics. I wouldn't go comparing it to HD MMOs at this point - it'll make you cry or, at the very least, pretty sad <fuggieface.gif>

A Wii U version could easily make this look a ton better with much higher res, better image quality, higher res textures, filters, etc.

also has Japan had a popular MMO in the past? I thought MMO was a Korea/China thing?

Nobunaga's Ambition Online! Among other Koei MMOs.

I've bought into the hype, and think I'm going to pick it up this week.

Amazon's got it for 5,500 yen, which I think is the cheapest I'll find it.

Have people been using the cheapest USB sticks they've found with no problem? I saw one guy complain on Amazon.

Did you guys have any trouble inputting the Japanese characters from the registration codes into your system? What disc loader should I be using? Trying to get everything ready in advance. Thanks.

Watching a stream and was curious to know how the game has been received by players in Japan.

Has it reached normal DQ levels of hype and sales or has it stumbled out of the gate? And does the impending WiiU version impact this one?

Neither, sales expectations were much lower because it's an MMO but the servers are all packed to capacity:

So while I can't play it....I need to hear about the music. How's it been? Is there as much old music as there is in the trailers or is there still a good full soundtrack's worth of new music?

I'm too poor to import so I must say I'll be quite bummed if it never gets localized. Come on Nintendo, bring over the Wii U version.

All I want is DQ8 graphics in a MMO. I think DQX (from the screens) fits that description perfectly.

Not that much to ask for no?

Seconded. My friend in Japan is using the inexpensive stick (<1000 yen, that's cheap on Japanese Amazon, lol) I bought her with the game without any problems.

Game looks fantastic to me and is one of the reasons I'm holding onto my Wii still along with The Last Story.

I'm glad those early rumors of Human not being a playable race didn't come to fruition. Human Martial artist looks awesome! :D

I hope this comes stateside for the holiday season. Would make a great xmas gift for me. ;)

Human isn't a "playable race" in the same way that the others are. You start the game as a human, but after the prologue, you're changed into one of the other races. Apparently, you'll be able to change back after a lot of story stuff, but that's one of the main goals of the story in the first place.

Sorry for double posting, but I've run into another problem.

It turns out that my Wii's IP isn't matching my VPN's for some reason. My laptop and smartphone both show Tokyo, Japan, but my Wii is something completely different. I don't even know where to begin trying to fix it. That's why Mario Kart Wii last night knew I was playing from America and not Japan.

The IP listed for the Wii on the right shows a local IP. You should try loading up the internet channel on the Wii, and going to one of those what's my IP sites or something instead.

I watched a little bit of the streams. The combat and a few other aspects remind me of old school FFXI (75 level cap). Can anyone who's played, or knows more about this confirm that it's indeed somewhat close to the FFXI experience?

do a lot of guys play as girl characters in MMOs?

Absolutely. You should expect any female character to be a man until proven otherwise. Guy In Real Life and all that.

That said, that mostly applies to English speaking MMOs, I don't know if that's also a thing in Japan too but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was.

Its better than FFXI like Ive said multiple times in this thread being with the game not feeling like a job lol. Though theres nothing fancy like chaining skills. If you played dragons quest before esp 9 thats what this game is the closest to being.

Aye. Unless it's an RP server or something along those lines, though. Then there is a high probability that the female character is in fact a female player.

It timed out while trying to connect to the service. Bottom right option is "try again"

By any chance, did you forget to delete your previous shop channel account before changing your shop channel's region? Apparently this is required. It means you lose access to all of your old purchases forever, though.

Ah, thanks. Yeah, I didn't bother deleting any of my old channels. Wii Shop seems to have converted to Japanese language, which is good. My VC games names have all changed to Japanese, too, but I haven't tried them out yet.

Though, in ModMii before I erased it because it couldn't download all the files I needed, it recommended to downgrade to 4.1 before changing the region. I didn't bother, since my Wii's already on 4.3 (now 4.3J, without a problem in sight yet).

This is what I'm seeing now on the Wii Shop:

Any idea if a Wii Shop JP account needs to be set up to play DQX?

Aeana

That's a username/password prompt for Club Nintendo. I believe that if you go back into AnyRegionChanger and set the language to English, then you can still access the JP shop with English menus. But just press the left option if you don't want to bother logging into a club Nintendo account.

Well, it's still up in the air. It may be required. I can't say for sure until I get the game.

Played quite a bit this evening. Partied up with some fairies, learned about smithing and other crafting things, traveled around on the train. All in all a fun time, combat gets more exciting with a full party and skills add a lot to the battle atmosphere. Looking forward to seeing some of you guys on there soon!

Three offline, three online. Though I should say that these are essentially linked, as your human appearance contributes to the online games story.

Once you have played through the prologue with one character you are free to create online characters without having to go through the prologue again.

I've never played a DQ game before, but unlike you, I quite enjoyed everything about FFXI (aside from NM camping). I rarely had to wait for parties and I dislike the ability to have NPC characters with you.

I like a challenging MMO, how challenging is this? I don't play FFXI anymore because it's not challenging compared to how it used to be. I'm worried FFXIV is going that direction as well.

Is it difficult to find a party or do most people just use NPC to party?

Its pretty easy to find a party, since there are always folks out there looking to lv up or do quests / story quests.

This game is a lot easier than FFXI. FFXI was a pain in the ass just to be a pain in the ass which is why I didnt like the design. I fault the creators for that since they were fans of EQ which is why a lot of the early mechanics were based off of that broken ass MMO. Such as the conning system not working, exp loss / level down etc.

This game was made for DQ fans basically and to be able to be played by a broad range of people. Which is why things like difficulty are not that high.

Though its not saying you wont die. Since some of the boss fights can be tough.

To explain it in a short way, it feels like a game and not a job once again. Which is nice, since its easy to just pop in and play.

Use NPCs if you dont want to bother with other people. They last for 48 hours real time from the moment you hire them. You can also drop them in and out of your party so you can gain more exp. The less members you have the more exp gained overall. Also as with DQ you are able to issue them simple AI pattern commands. Fight all out, Standard, Try different things, Healing priority, Dont use MP. Can change these in battle or out of battle. Also its fun experimenting with different party combinations. Currently am running 2 bandits and 1 cleric, just so I can get a higher chance of stealing from the enemy.

Big important thing is no real way to grief other players, besides message spams, no kill stealing, no monsters linking, no trains. Though when you are in a fight outside help cant be done, besides cheering which gives you a small damage boost. But running away from a fight is easy so not like it matters all that much. Unless you piss off something you were not supposed to.

Overall I can see this being a much better game than XI. Esp when things like the casino and colosseum open for business. If anything Im finding it much more enjoyable.

I need this game so bad it hurts. I have a question for long time DQ fans who are playing this: does it feel like a DQ game or is it more like a standard mmo with a DQ skin? Does it give you that feeling of "aw yeah, I'm playing a brand new DQ main line game after years of waiting"?

Its a DQ game. Closest thing to explain it to you in a way that makes sense its a MMO version of IX.

There is a story, but as like with FFXI to progress it you need to do story quests, which require you to level up or get spanked by the bosses like what happened with me, when I had tried to rush through the next quest. D:

But overall most def this is a DQ game.

Cute guy = girl or herbivore

Buff old guy = girl tired of being hit on

If they ever release a US version I hope it'll be for WiiU. This game would look great in HD, I'd be all in.

I doubt that will happen since running servers and doing updates, maintenance, new content creation isnt free. I really dont get the reasoning always behind people wanting to play MMOs yet not pay for a subscription fee.

Seriously game comes with 20 free days and around 10 bucks a month isnt that bad considering how many hours you will get out of playing the game.

It's probably because the vast majority of western MMOs are on the F2P model and even WoW, grandaddy of them all, seems to be headed in that direction.

They all make money somehow, so I'm sure they'd be able to adapt. Question is, will the western Wii U userbase be large enough to justify it? Who knows. I certainly hope so.
