Forza Motorsport 5 at gamescom - Spa confirmed

Laser scanned tracks is great news. Spa is a must have track right now in just about every sim, be it PC or console, and I'm happy to see it included in FM5.

Have Turn10 released any info on grid sizes or is that on the TBA list? 20+ cars racing at Spa would be fantastic.

I think BADNED mentioned that grid size still hasn't been locked down yet..

Yea, in terms of gameplay shots. The Aston Martin in the first batch looks pretty damn amazing. Especially the livery.
Has a very H3rTz DoNuT vibe to it. But yeah, the other shots look nice (thank god there's no overblown colours with what I assume are default settings), something funny with that Merc, though.

Love that they are hiding the graphics behind massive amounts of motion blur.

If they say "......thanks to the power of the Xbox One" one more time my eyes are going to roll so hard they fall out of my face.
 
The headlights aren't lit, I wonder if it's possible to turn them on and off or will they be used in an alternative time of day?

That's if Laguna has a different time of day.

Issue with the merc appears to be the seemingly matte paint job, uncharacteristic, which is then exacerbated by the flat reflective bumper

It's a bit of a bummer, isn't it, considering the cars at E3 had working lights and DRLs. The R18 loses something like half of its menace without those retina-searing LEDs being lit.

Still, I can hardly wait for some video footage of that mofo tearing around Laguna. Here's to hoping they nailed the sound of that flywheel KERS system.

anyways, I am 100% sure that the jump alone to a clear resolution is substantial on its own.
new physics and laser scanned tracks are the cherries on top.

cant wait for the racing guys (vvv etc) and blim's coverage
 
Obviously the photomode pics will look close, since FM4 uses much more detailed assets for that mode. But the graphical gap will be in the gameplay.

Although, saying that, I'm a bit underwhelmed with the lighting in FM5's photos.

I think lighting looks closer to Horizon than FM4, which is a good thing. You can also sees hat looks like AO on the car which removes some of the flat look (especially visible on 300SL fenders). For me, the best and biggest upgrade will be the full 1080p at 60 fps though. I can't wait to see some Forzavista car porn on my TV
 
Photomode and autoivista have much more detailed cars than in-game. It is not like GT5 where they just add tons of AA in photomode.

I was going to point out that I can see the polygon edges around the headlight rim on the Merc in the F5 shot but not the F4 one, but it felt too much like twisting the knife.

The 300 SL is probably the same model, slightly reworked. From the beginning, I've noticed that the cars are less "smooth" than the highest LOD of FM4, we seem to be able to see more polygon edges, kinda like GT5 Premium which didn't have any sort of tesselation (they're fixing it in GT6 thankfully). Wonder why that's the case.

Audi is all new since it's not even the same car which wasn't in any previous Forza.

Yes, I barely played with the F40 in FM3, FM4 and Horizon, GT5 just spoiled me in F40 goodness... :-/
I hope we have a nice Ferrari media blowout like they did in FM3, that way they can announce they finally added the 1962 250 GTO in !! Right Helios ?!

Nah, only reason why we see poly edges is FM5 pic is much higher res and especially the rendering issue with the specular.
It looks like those speculars you'd see back in dreamcast days, what happened to smooth specular ??? that stuff around the headlights looks bad.

This doesn't even look like the same game as the old pics' to be honest...
