I didn't know email addresses that end with "@googlemail.com" were a thing
KojiPro has made 0 good games, CryTek has made a phenomal first person shooter. In my mind it's pretty clear who's winning
Even as a joke, to say they've made 0 good games is a little bit too much.
Wasn't the impressive part of the FOX engine render that it was rendered automatically through a photograph and not manually done?
Valve says hello.

Without the comparable images from FOX its tough to tell, although I definitely think FOX might be better with the dynamic lighting.
You have pathetic standards if you think HL2 is a good FPS
Is Ryse son of Rome using the Cryengine 3 in anyway?
Is that fucking chromatic aberration?
Is that fucking chromatic aberration?
I don't like Metal Gear.
So I guess then that you are the arbiter of everything that is good?
I don't think that's correct.
The practical implementation of this method of rendering involves a huge amount of work. Kojima Productions is taking the 'photo' aspect of photo-realism very seriously. Wherever possible the development team is using 3D photo capture, laser capture and motion capture to create assets that are as detailed and realistic as possible. In-game objects are photographed in real life from a wide range of angles, and then those photographs are compiled into a 3D model using a program called Photoscan.
Textures, meanwhile, are photographed with high exposure in order to preserve their linear light information, which gives a more accurate representation of how the human eye sees objects as opposed to how a camera lens sees objects, which if we take the term literally is actually beyond photo-realism. These textures are then cleaned up by the studio's artists and imported into programs such as Marvelous Designer a complex clothing design tool used to build character attire in layers, including accurate and malleable rendering of creases, folds, stitching and so forth.
real dumb talklol @ crysis
game was good until
all those dumb fucking aliens and flying octopus robots ripped off of The Matrix
which unfortunately encompasses almost half the game
Crysis is 10/10 as a tech demo
and 5/10 as a game
real talk
Were you comparing the "dynamic lighting" between static images?
I thought we were past having to add "in my opinion" at the end of every post, guess not.
Did Koji Pro make the finest FPS ever made?
No that was CryTek. They later lost their way but you can't take Crysis from them.
This isn't by CryTek by the way.
Because that would have helped your argument...
We know that the FOX Engine has dynamic lighting, I was just referring to the lighting vs, the prebaked lighting in the other photos.
Calm yourself.
lol dat salt
Wait... You're serious here? I guess you people do exist.
I develop using UE.
But LOL DAT SALT
How does a shitposter like you even get an account on this forum
Lots of people know that Crysis is a great game. It's not even a niche thing, the metacritic score is 91.

And yeah I see this thread is more about the people who makes the engines than about the dude's work

I never brought up anything about it being a bad game. I just think calling it the finest FPS ever is a bit funny. But hey, Metacritic did give it a 91 after all!
I thought Fox engine was underwhelming personally tbh, it looks good yes but it just don't compare to some of the stuff we've seen so far from other engines.

Pretty assets looks... pretty off!
Seems like they're missing the point. Rendering the office in FOX Engine wasn't just about; "oh, look how close we make this remote environment look to the real one." It was more about: "This office serves as our reference for simulating how light behaves in an environment and how it affects materials". In fact, Konami pretty much stated that much, in similar words.
Konami demonstrated this thoroughly as they placed assets in different environments, or dynamically changed the lighting/time of day. No matter what they did, everything kept a consistently natural look. Was CryEngine 3 really built - from scratch - around that concept? It's one thing to create pretty images - which CryEngine 3 does very well - it's another thing to 'automatically' do what the FOX Engine was specifically designed to do.
This is the biggest image I could find. If I remember correctly A are the real photos, and B are in the Fox engine.
The Crytek 3 recreation is pretty good if you ask me, though that lighting could use a little tweaking. Not bad for a modder though.
Looks pretty close to the Fox Engine pics when sized down.
I'm sorry the question you should be asking is, Can the Fox Engine run Crysis?
I jokingly replied to a guy that said Crytek couldn't make games, if you look closely at my post you'll even see that I've added an "" at the end. I wasn't trying to make an argument.
