Arch was built way earlier in Resistance timeline due to lack of World War II and materials being available. Certainly was built before the events of R2.

How.. conveniant. :p

(couldn't care less about historic accuracy though. It's there to be recognised, not to be an essential plothole or anything. I mean, this isn't the history channel..)

Have to admit the name Capelli really blew past me and didn't ring a bell whatsoever. Not that it really matters, but it's going to be pretty awkward for new players to see Resistance 2 flashbacks or story recap, if there is any.

Those fuckers (joke) better be bringing me Gabe Logan to my PS3. They are allowed to work on Syphon Filter PS3 and a Resistance title for the PSP2.
How big is Sony Bend actually?

According to their website, they're a team of 40 people.
Yeah, I imagine they're just working on a PSP2 title then.

If the thing is notably more powerful than the 3DS, 40 people would be about the right team size for a major project.

Their website says over 40. Wiki says over 60. They were hiring for a PS3 engine engineer at one point.
My guess would be that they only had about 20 people on their PSP games and the other 20 assisting other studios on PS3 projects.

Bend don't strike me as a PS3 helper studio. That usually comes down to the ICE team, Santa Monica and San Diego in the US. If I remember correctly, the job posting for the PS3 engineer was for their own proprietary PS3 engine. Mocap companies also listed Syphon Filter 5 on their websites. . .along with SOCOM 4 before it was announced.

as much as I love both Syphon Filter psp, then need to find a better artist or something. Gabe Logan psp is very generic looking, and even though Gabe has always been generic even since ps1 days, I hope they use this ps3 release as a reboot and completely redesign the characters and make it more realistic, distinct, and memorable.

Well, it's certainly possible that they're making a PS3 game, but forty people just makes it seem a bit unlikely.

However, one the places you listed could be helping them make it, which would fix the team size issue.

GI is putting out some really nice covers; for those that subscribe, how is the content on the inside?

For awhile, GI was simply what you got for free with your Edge card (a throw-in). I haven't read it in years, so while the covers have been very nice, I wonder if the content on the inside has also improved.

Really feeling the cover. Boss fights in this have great potential.
I thought some of the boss fights in Resistance 2 had great potential; they just failed to deliver. The Leviathan battle, for example, should have been epic and challenging. Instead, what we got was a battle that literally holds your hand the entire time. "Hey, here's a rocket launcher! Shoot it there!" I think the main issue was that we knew the boss fights were coming before they happened (ex: whenever you got a Pulse Cannon early in the game, you knew the Kraken was going to show up).

There was too much wasted potential there.

isn't Sucker Punch is about the same size? 40+ people? anyway, then can also have contracted jobs for a project and increase manpower that way.

I know it is kind of lame, but I really dislike having every GI cover story spoiled for me for me every month.

Could we start having Game Informer cover story threads without the games featured in the title?

actually I don't think the weapon is the problem here. it make sense to use big weapon to fight larger boss. I think the problem is more to the very limited attack pattern and no way to improvise your approach of how to beat the boss.

Kraken for example, you're confined to small square platform while waiting Kraken to show up and shoot it. not offering a very engaging boss battle. would be much better if there are multiple square platform that you can jump over to just in case the Kraken decide to attack directly below your platform and knock you over.

An added year+ development time for Resistance 3 plus the latest screenshots have me excited about Resistance 3. The cover looks awesome.

I am more excited about footage of Last Guardian than anything else. New screenshots isn't going to do much for me at this stage. It's been so long since we saw something really new from it, and I doubt they'll reveal new environments (though maybe they will?). Don't get me wrong, Last Guardian is day 0 material no matter what but we know nothing about R3 so I want to know what direction they are heading in!

Played the demo for R1, didn't like it, so skipped it. Was in the beta for R2, enjoyed co-op, but not competitive multiplayer and unfortunately for Resistance, I was in the Killzone 2 beta at the same time. That said, the live action teaser makes me think that a Resistance movie would be fucking awesome.

This. Please. Syphon Filter PS3 first, then worry about Resistance Retribution 2.

I'm so excited for this game. I can't wait to see some gameplay in motion. :D

Now, that is pretty interesting. :)

Nice cover, looking very good.

A batch of stunning Resistance 3 screenshots recently hit the web, but those pretty pictures of Insomniac's upcoming PS3 shooter are a mere glimpse into the harrowing world that's awaiting new protagonist Joe Capelli. Our exclusive cover story is stuffed with never-before-told info on the new hero, the brutal Chimera-ruled world, changes to gameplay, and even a glimpse at new weaponry and threats.

Oh so the Chimera took over than, should be really interesting to see a chimera ruled world.I woudl like to see a Freedom Fighters type thing going on.

Is that issue out already? Does it say anything about Move support in R3?
Not yet TTP
If that's not enough, you can look forward to a month full of exclusive online Resistance 3 content on this very website. Stay tuned for the Resistance 3 hub launch this Friday. The November issue will be hitting subscribers this Monday, October 11, and will be in stores October 15.

A resistance game without cartwright is a broken one.

Also iam hoping that the video and pics based around the train isnt some reference to the game becoming a on-the-rails shooter, that would be painfully disappointing.

Sony Bend is obviously making Uncharted Portable, a launch window title for the PSP2.

I wish

One thing is clear, they've moved out of PSP development because all of their psp games were released 18 months apart between releases and Resistance Retribution was released in March '09

Never bought R2 owing to the fact it was a bunch of shit, but I still have a soft spot for the franchise after spending many hours with the first game. I'll keep an eye on R3.

Glad to see the game being officially revealed. Artwork and screenshots / renders look great. I'm very curious if it will look as good ingame. Looks very promising.

Interesting.

So either the game takes place prior to Resistance 2 or that just happens to be a nice coincidence.

Might be nothing, but someone at Sony Bend filed a patent a while back about managing multiple, potentially heterogeneous GPUs in a handheld system for optimal power draw. I don't think PSP has multiple different GPUs...

(Now this could well have just been just pie-in-the-sky research...or maybe it was motivated by something a little more solid. Bend definitely seems like the kind of studio that's suited to handheld work. If they were doing something on PS3 I've a feeling we'd have known about it by now.)

I would be surprised if it didn't given the current slate of SCE shooters with Move support. Socom 4, and KZ3 already have it. I'm pretty sure R3 will probably follow the lead.

Never care for the overrated generic Resistance series, but so far I am liking the art direction for Resistance 3. At least it removes the generic-ness of the first 2 games and finally have some interesting artistic direction.

I feel the same. I'll give it another try despite consistently getting burnt on Insomniac's games.

I've no doubt that they are working on the PSP2. Sony even goes as far as to call them their 'handheld specialists'. Even so, it is frankly outright annoying that Syphon Filter hasn't made its way to PS3. Given how Metal Gear is multiplat it would be a great time to bring forward an exclusive stealth/action game.

I hope Insomniac have learned from their mistakes regarding boss battles. Practically all of them in R2 left me feeling surprised at how poor they were. If they are going for a more 'survival horror FPS' feel this time around. . .that already bodes well for some great boss battles.

after 4 years of PS3 life now ,I personally just don't think Bend Studio will make anything for PS3, at this point most it's more likely that SCEA want them to make something for PSP2.

Same for Cambridge Studio beyond that Move game :(

This is why I think if Sony wants the PSP2 line up to be consistent and entice more 3rd party support. . .they'll have to stump up the cash and buy up a few studios to work exclusively on handheld titles. Studios like Cambridge and Bend are too good to be largely doing only PSP/Home things.

Cambridge have exceptional talent in their ranks but we barely get to see the fruits of their labour. Sure, they helped out a lot with Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2 and LBP. . .but its definitely time they brought out something for PS3 that said 'Suck it down. . .we are awesome'.

I wonder whether Insomniac will continue to make some PS3 exclusive games after R&C:A4O and Resistance 3. I was surprised both projects got announced on the same day and are launching in the same window. I think the NC studio would be a good candidate for a PSP2 game.

Suzzopher said:
I honestly believe R3 and the next Ratchet are it for Insomniac in regards PS exclusives.

Makes me wonder how their current set up will work.

The main Burbank studio seems like it has a 'in full production' team and a 'pre/half production' team. The NC team's make up is unknown at this time, but its probably a one game at a time studio. They have also moved on to a 3-year development cycle.

After R3 the Burbank guys will move on to the new MP IP that their pre-production team is probably working on now. After Fall 2011 that means that its likely that the Burbank pre-production team and the NC team will have unannounced projects going on.

I can't imagine Insomniac walking away from Ratchet and Clank. Resistance, yes, but they seem absolutely in love with Ratchet.

If Insomniac do walk away from PS3 exclusive development entirely. . .Sony would need a Platformer developer, a WRPG developer and a JRPG developer to fill out their line up.

I wonder if David Kaye will have another VA role in R3 if Hale doesn't make it in.

I think it'd be a mistake to move away from their second party status completely, as a second party their underwhelming sales are to some degree compensated by Sony, when their games don't do great as a third party, no one will be there to pay them for it.

It might be more lucrative outside the safety of being a second party, but it's also a lot more biting. Their new IP could do great of course, they could make a ton from it, but it could easily be as middling as the rest of their titles and bomb.
