Honestly I expected Snake and Liquid to be on Raw at some point.

How do you understand what is going on in normal games, let alone MGS?
I'm so confused as to how you could be a habitual cutscene skipper and still play games.
Because gameplay should be what the game is built around, not story. I hate watching cutscenes that remove control from me.
Why should I need to watch some D tier level story telling while playing a game?
Decoy octopus, hot coldman, pacifica ocean, liquid snake, revolver ocelot, the pain, metal gear, grey fox... This series has some awesome names for its antagonists.
People shit on me for saying this but i never knew what mutually assured destruction was until peace walker. I also got to see How i learned to stop worrying and love the bomb(an absolutely brilliant piece of satire) because of the strangelove reference. If the games and stories suck, fine... But no one can deny the treasure troves of knowledge those games drop.Peace walker especially. I read everything I could on Somoza, the Contra, and Sandinistas as well as the CIAs bungling of the whole thing.
Also good game storys help me remember the game better. I feel like i would have given up on max payne 3 if i didnt know why the hell he was in brazil and not new york shooting mobsters.Because the story makes the game better. And the game makes the story better. They're part of one experience.
I cant understate how much I absolutely adore the randomized recruit names in peace walker.
Metal gear is nothing but a bunch of comic book bull shit.
Statement stands! MGS3 ends pretty amazingly though. I never was really able to get into Big Boss. Solid Snake's story is just so much better.MGS3
This is some blasphemous heresy.I feel you on MGS2. That story was straight up garbage and the Big Shell was a pretty crappy location.
MGS2...horrible story...what?
Let's throw in Vamp, an immortal character with no explanation into the mix.
They're fun games to play, when the game allows itself to be played.
Watching the 500 hour marathon livestream and reading Wikis to catch up on the story, my reaction to the over-arching narrative is "I can't believe how many people take this garbage seriously." In nearly any other medium (book, television, film) the story and writing of Metal Gear would be considered nonsensical indulgent claptrap, but for some reason people insist on treating the game like it's some pinnacle of fiction. There's people talking about multiple times they've cried during cutscenes, or bleating on about how the games have something really meaningful to say about war or technology.
It's like listening to someone talk about their tearful and emotional experience of watching Dragon Ball Z. Or having someone wax poetic about the savory delectable aromas and flavor profile of a Pop Tart.
Yes, terrible. Let's throw in Vamp, an immortal character with no explanation into the mix. LA LI LU LE LO. fission mailed... Fortune not having any actual powers but believing that she did her whole life. Should I keep going?

Story scenes takes away from the actual game. If you can't tell a story during the gameplay, then you're doing it wrong.
Are we naming awesome things about MGS2? I like this game!
Campbell's freak out, Otacon trying to be like Mei Ling, the handshake, Ocelot in every single scene...I could go on.
What a game.
Bwahahah! My exact thoughts. The S3 plan, fatman's back story, the kastatka chopper, Russian buzz cuts, high frequency blade. Are we naming awesome things about MGS2? I like this game!

A whiny main character who contributes nothing. Liquid's hand wtf bullshit. Solidus Snake aka the Snake who everyone forgets even existed because he was so pathetically lame.
Big Shell was such a boring place to spend so much time. Shadow Moses was fucking nice.
"Shoot Gunner"

Don't forget about the Ninja being Olga. Oh man, so amazing. Forget Gray Fox, that was some serious backstory she had as to why she chose to become a cyborg ninja.

This series has so many memories with gamers, and I've tried to get into this series numerous times. Beat MGS on PS1, and while it was OK, the story just lost me, and wasn't all that interesting. Picked up MGS2 after a few months of solid reviews, good word of mouth from my local game shop, and yeah.....terrible story, gameplay was ok, just never really grabbed me. Started 3, played it about halfway through, and stopped.
I've seen the praises of 4, and 5 looks to be high rankings again. I just don't see the love of the series that other people do. I feel like I'm missing out, any other gaffers feel this way?

This is such an intensely narrow view of what should constitute a video game.
Creators should have a the freedom to tell a story how they want to tell it without artificial strictures like the one you're suggesting.
Your lack of understanding is showing with your sarcasm. :^)
