not surprised. Deep down I think Nintendo knows this game is niche and not a heavy hitter. They aren't going to spend a ton marketing it.
Nintendo has no idea how to market and position new (non-casual) IPs in the market.
They're also extremely conservative and risk-averse so they don't want to spend money on new big IPs and promotion. This is exactly why almost everything they do is either a Mario spin-off or a sequel to a classic IP.
Btw, considering today's gaming landscape, TW101 (as interesting as it looks) shouldn't even be a full price retail release.
There's still a market for such games, just not at retail and certainly not at $60.

Unfortunately, you also need $50-$100 million to make that plan work, and Nintendo is certainly not EA, Activision, or Take Two.

I will say it again, Nintendo fans, please. If you are one of those action junkies who advocate gameplay over graphics and production values but still somehow skip this, I don't know what to say.
Lots of people watch Nintendo Direct, it's how Nintendo was able to not have an e3 conference. Vs expect the game the be covered in the media? Platinum games are hated by the media...This may help but mainly with the core that already knows about the game.
Why Nintendo hasn't created the Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 communities on Miiverse? There's one for Zelda and SSB! What are they doing? It's not like it's a lot of work to do.
Miiverse could be free marketing for niche games but they're not doing anything with it.
The fact that it's a new IP doesn't help either.
I mean we're talking Nintendo. They have the resources to market this game. They choose NOT to (on a COD scale). The only thing going foe W101 is the Wii game drought. Pikmin sales may cannibalize W101 bc they may be perceived by the masses as the same type of game.
Communities usually are made when the game releases.
They made exceptions for those big games coming out in a hundred years.
I wouldn't mind a Miiverse community for this game right now though.
Really? Oh, there were talks of a supposed sequel so I assumed it met some success.Even Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was also very far from being a sales success in the West. We can say that Japan "saved" this title.

I dunno why. It's not like they're busy marketing much else.

The problem with Nintendo direct is that most people who don't care about the Wii U right now, are never going to see it. It feels as if the directs are meant for Wii U owners.
That's intentional. Advertising in a drought is pissing away money. W101 is still nearly 2 months away in Japan, 2.5 in North America.
And they didn't even do the PS3 version, which they should have. That will always be a blemish on Platinum's record. The PS3 version was the best selling version too. They spent 1.5 times the manpower on this than Bayonetta 1?
I think I found the problem. They were never going to recoup on this as a Wii U exclusive.
while this is true, all the sites that then report the info from ND server pretty much the same purpose, no?
It's pissing away money if a bunch of people have the system, maybe.
And as much as Assassin's Creed sells each year, they still started advertising in like, January.

Utter nonsense.
It's a long flashy game that has topnotch gameplay.
This has got to stop...

Smaller scale productions and niche games need to be priced differently in order to survive.
The $60 retail release doesn't work in favor of TW101, the game would gain much more attention and prestige if it was marketed as high-profile downloadable release.
It's not like Nintendo is plastering the world with ads six to ten weeks prior to the release of a Mario game, either. What other companies do is to use the press as marketing instruments at this point in the cycle, and Nintendo doesn't really work with the press all that much. Not for Wonderful 101, and not for Mario.Next time, ask to make a Mario game and your game will see marketing activities.

I can guarantee that. Nintendo is probably going to advertise Lego City in Japan before W101, but when it gets next to it's release, it will get a couple of ads.I assume he is talking about Japan. And Japanese posters can correct me if I am wrong, but even for its big titles Nintendo rarely starts their advertising blitz right away- hell the Pikmin 3 ads just started last week.
I'm not saying Nintendo is going to push W101 hard, but given its presence in Nintendo Directs I do think they will advertise it- but they just don't start 2-3 months in advance like other companies.
After Iwata Asks: Kamiya Edition, I expect W101 to shoot up on Amazon sales rank.
Naomi Kyle from IGN said she is getting the game, maybe all the posters that slobber all over her will follow suit.
Marketing just needs that one match to ignite it all.

That's subjective as fuck. It looks like an excellent game, just because the budget didn't go torwards top notch graphics doesn't mean it's not worth the price. The opposite applies as well, just because a game is OMGPRETTY doesn't mean it's worth $60.Btw, considering today's gaming landscape, TW101 (as interesting as it looks) shouldn't even be a full price retail release.

An internet show can't possibly compare to actual ads. Like others said the people that watch Nintendo Directs already know the game, the problem is advertising to the people that don't so the game actually sells which Nintendo is most likely never going to bother doing.Has he not heard there is a Direct coming? Why is he so impatient...

If only there were a thread where the op detailed all the information about the game that we knew about and showed plenty of amazing gifs so that people can see the higlights of the trailer immediately...

You're welcome gaf.
W101 and B2 are the only games i wanna play. But Nintendo doesnt give a fuck so PS/Xbox gets a port sooner or later.
Who seriously said Nintendo are the best publisher for Platinum?Bu..but Nintendo is the best publisher for PG!!
I wish I knew someone with a Wii U to tell them to buy W101.
