Marvel's The Defenders *SPOILER THREAD* |OT| Super Friends - August 18th on Netflix

I seriously thought Luke Cage would wreck those SWAT / cops when they entered the building.

"I'm sorry but I can't let you do that"

... only for it to end without a fight or an off-screen one. It was right there, black man, cops, police brutality. But nope.

Actually, wasn't a thing towards the end of Luke Cage that Diamondback was selling those Chitauri-based bullets that could wound Luke Cage? How did The Hand not get any? Did that stuff just fall off the wayside?

Yep, Judas bullets.

All gone. You would think one of the world's biggest evil organizations would have a stockpile of it, but nah.

Man I gotta be honest. This show fucking sucked. Iron fist being the focal point truly truly ruined something that was supposed to be special. Horrible acting, horrible action, horrible story, and just ugh god awful....

Shoulda bought some shit from the Vulture. he had tons of that stuff. Ultron parts too.

This show was set before Homecoming I'm pretty sure

Tbf, it's not like they expected Luke Cage to interfere with them

I just remembered that the bullets were used in AOS.

Finished the season earlier today. My main complaints would be how they treated the Hand, the dragon bones, and Kun Lun. I thought the characters were fine mostly, except like someone mentioned, Colleen's actress is evidently worse here somehow.

I guess one explanation for why removing the bones wouls crumble New York is that the bones might be mystical in nature and the reason why New York us the central of so many things. The collapse would be due to mystical reasons and not because of physical reasons.

Killing Karen would be very dumb and a complete retread of DD S2/Defenders.

But it would be accurate to the comics. I believe they were married at that time though. Bullseye is the one who kills her, but he also killed Elektra in the comics. I just hope Bullseye shows up in DD season 3 and is psychotic like he is in the comics.

I have only watched up to episode 4. Do the ninja clad members of the Hand show up like they did in DD Season 2? Or is more like the version of the Hand we got in IF? As silly at times as it was seeing fully clad ninja's in DD at least it was accurate to the comic portrayal of the Hand.

Elektra and Bakuto were literally brought back to life to rehash past conflicts.
Alexandra had no purpose other than bringing back Elektra.
Gao remains unclear on motivations and goals, her mystique has worn thin.
Jessica Jones and Luke Cage had extremely weak plot to justify their existence in the story, and both experienced no character development.
Danny...

Was there lesson Luke needed to learn? If there was one for Matt, he definitely didn't learn it. Danny just needs to lost the chip on his shoulder. I thought Jessica handled the moving forward thing the best by the end there, or at least that was what was implied.

Did anyone else find it really jarring in the final episode when Missy asked Bukoto to surrender at gunpoint, only for the show cut to them around half an hour later to reveal that Missy was still in the process of asking Bukoto to put his hands up?

I did a bit.

It was happening at the same exact time as the other events. Would you prefer split screens and mutiple dialog for those scenes to show events happening at the same time?

Just finished it. I liked it for the most part but felt it could've been done alot better. Marvel should have dropped subtle hints of the Hand in Jessica Jones and Luke Cage shows to connect them better to the Defenders story line. I can't complain too much because I got to see more Jessica Jones and Electra. I hope they put more thought into Defenders season two if there's one.

I liked it. Elektra was better in this than in dd s2 (she spoke less in this). Jessica Henwick forever carrying Finn Jones. Rosario Dawson and Misty Knight trying to carry Luke Cage but ending up pretty meh. Jessica Jones owning as always. Daredevil carrying Foggy and boring face Page. Segourney Weaver didn't fight that Japan man as upset of the season. Bad death indeed. African dude should've had a bigger fight than not at all, especially when he was owning Luke Cage in the teamfight. Madame Gao was pretty cool. Japan dude was pretty cool because he only spoke Japanese. Can't wait for Rosario Dawson's character to die so Jessica Jones can get hers. Also daredevil is dope af. That ending was pretty cool.
I liked the random arm chop outta nowhere and then Jessica Henwick finally gets her sweet sweet closure with that badass headchop. Now she'll go back to being good at acting and being a good character right? Hopefully she can move on as a character. Will definitely be interesting to see where she and Danny go on from here. Luke Cage is in a weird spot right now. Not sure what more story he's got. My dude was wrecking shit with Danny pretty hard though. Would love to see them teaming up more. Can't wait for Luke to throw Danny into a dude or some other team combos. Nice to see Jessica Jones get over being a huge murderer finally. It was interesting to see exactly how much people in that world know about what happened with her. Also, am I the only one who would subscribe to a Trish talks podcast? That radio show looked pretty cool every time it was on. I'd definitely be a huge fan if I was in that world. Also what does Malcolm do? Why is he there? Can't you just say he was on a buisiness trip like they did with Ward? Also what happened to whatsherface Ward's sister? Did she die in irn fist I don't remember?

lol, I was trying to think "What line is he talking about where she mentions Spider-Man?"

It was in the climactic battle, when they play Protect Ya Neck:

I smoke on the mic like smoking Joe Frazier
The hell raiser, raising hell with the flavor
Terrorize the jam like troops in Pakistan
Swinging through your town like your neighborhood Spiderman

I'm glad they didn't, would've made the shows worse :p

I felt the way they got included was just fine.

"Jessica Jones reason, I don't want to deal with this shit but I'm less of a asshole then most so let's get this shit over with. What a bother."

"Luke Cage reason, these crazy cats are talking about dragons and mythical shit. Damnit, let me stick around to make sure they don't do anything too crazy and get themselves hurt. AND FOR HARLEM!"

Honestly, this version of Luke Cage makes me think of a mother hen, a really reliable good guy, you know the person most females would put in the friend zone if he wasn't built and looked like he does.

The reason Marvel gave for those two was "workable" at best. They probably just thought the audience would stop caring once they started hitting shit.

No, I'm just a big fan of logical and coherent editing. In editing...it doesn't make sense to make a cut from a particular fast-paced exchange to an unrelated event, only to cut back to the original exchange twenty minutes later with barely a second having passed within the scene you originally cut away from. It would have been far less jarring for them to have cut back to the scene much earlier, or simply have not have made the cut in the first place.

Obviously, it's a relatively minor and nitpicky quibble in the grand-scheme of things, just something that bothered me.

Don't mind my reply too much. I just had to explain what you replied with and what I originally posted to my wife. I kind of feel 20% dumber.

Just finished Ep.6

What the fuck is with that plot twist? That's like if Theon on GoT killed Ramsey and said "you work for me now" to his minions. It doesn't make any logical sense.

Finished it.
Eh. Not terrible, but far from DD1 / JJ levels of enjoyment / personal quality.

Just kind of flat.
Never really a fan of the hero dead but totally not plot point.

I feel like some of the people complaining about Iron Fist never read his comics. It's not that far from how he's portrayed in the show.

Please no

That finale was where the show went from a decent time pass to "Ok, I'm annoyed by how little this makes sense." Everything about the last half hour was weirdly edited together, and the NYPD covering up the blown up building is completely nonsensical. I could almost accept it if a few people from the Hand got arrested like Gao, but it's impossible for me to think they could just bury the whole thing.

I also found most of the dialogue between Daredevil and Elektra to be as cliched as possible.

They seemed to have done it to both inspire Iron Fist to become a vigilante (and hopefully wear his damn costume!), as well as set up DD S3, where I guess he's gonna meet his mother.

Guess I'll never read a IF comic then

I nearly had an aneurysm reading this. He is nothing like Finn Jones ironfist in the show except for namesake and slight obliviousness to social situations.

Please do not take his comment as gospel. Read the immortal iron fist for a good look at the character

Are you kidding? Being tricked into opening the seal is a very IF thing to do.

I mean, maybe he's gotten better in recent years...

There is way more about the overall structure of the character that is ridiculed than one moment like that...

Well sure, but I'm just giving an example. My biggest complaint with how they handle him is that they go so far overboard with his angst. Someone said it earlier that he's basically still a teenager.

I'd love to know how Matt apparently got out from underneath of about two miles worth of collapsed rubble or how those nuns even found him.

Just finished Episode 8. Liked it overall. Did not love it but really liked it.
So I am not 100% sure if this is based on any canon from the comics or not, so excuse if this is an obvious question.
So are we to believe Elektra used whatever that substance was to revive Matt from the dead? Or does no one know and that was purposefully left open with the way it ended?

I hope they don't go full edgy like Miller if
Born Again
is actually the plot of S3.

Some edge, sure (
Karen getting a drug addiction
), but the whole shebang? No, please.

PS: Don't know if this is a spoiler so I'm just making sure.

It's pretty obvious Karen is taking Ben Ulrich's place from the original Born Again storyline as the journalistic ally of Matt's who tries to clear Matt's name by doing some investigative digging. Plus, Season 2 already implied that The Kingpin has figured out Daredevil's secret identity...so there's certainly no reason to suddenly transform Karen into a pathetic, heroin addled porn-star like in the comics just so she can reveal Matt's secret. This version of Karen has clearly been put on a completely different path. To put her on such a radically different track this late in the game would most likely just feel wildly out of character and thus not serve any particular use to this new version of the story that they're trying to tell.
