Messi is the greatest of all time. Club football is played at a higher level than international football. Messi can do everything CR7 can do and more. He's as complete as you can get. Dribbling, creativity, being an outlet for possession in tight areas, and of course scoring. These days Ronaldo only provides the scoring, while his creativity has become muted (assists are only 1 factor in creativity). Maradona didn't have the scoring, but was a better creator by a little. Who gives a fuck about Pele really. Guy even counts his goals against the adult league 5v5s.

I gave you all the games in which Barcelona were against the ropes, in champions league, needing a comeback and Messi was no where to be found pretty much debunking your theory that Messi always comes up big in those types of matches.
Messis only critique probably is that in big time elimination games he disappears yes of course he's come up big in plenty of other matches but I also gave you a fairly large sample size of games in which he's done Jack shit and arguably on a much more competitive platform that is champions league compared to international play.

What are you talking about? In the last 3 champions leagues Barcelona won Messi played a key role all the way. He score in the playoffs against Arsenal, Madrid, Bayern, and finals against Manchester United. Our ability to win the CL depends on Messi.

Messi has taken a poor performing national side to back to back finals in tournaments they played. Argentina would not have made it out two group stages, or qualified for a world cup if it wasn't for Messi.
But people are gonna still say 'ah but he needs to win a WC' when Pele and Maradona won them when they were arguably easier.
Messi plays with a great club side, but a poor national side. However, Messi's qualities shine through in both. As they would in any side in the world. Doesn't mean he is always gonna win everything.

Zidane is considered by many to be one of the greatest players of all time. Not just for the prizes he won. He also literally carried an average French side to the finals in 2006. It's hard to call anyone the GOAT in a team sport since you're dependant on each other's performances, but there is a case to be made for the players who elevate an average team to great heights. Natural born leaders on the pitch. Players like Johan Cruijff never won an international prize, but he is a player who helped shape modern football with his unparalleled vision. Zidane and Messi are perhaps the perfect embodiment of that. The best playmakers the game has ever seen.

I fail to see your point. Regardless of their position in the field, those guys were considered by everyone as the best, they were the key players in their national teams, and both of them achieved more than Messi & CR7.
Hence, to call either Messi or CR7 the GOAT is just ridiculous.
I give you since they are still in their prime, they have time to become the GOAT, but so far, nope.

I'm always baffled how Gerd Mueller never gets mentioned (outside of Germany). The guy was a fucking machine, I'm not even sure there are that many players with a goal / appearences ratio over 1 in national teams (outside of players with like 3 goals / 2 matches), let alone ones with over 60 appearences.
I'm also wondering when Zidane will take over France, Beckenbauer is a bit alone in that list as WC champion coach.
On topic: I always find this debate funny, in how many of their respective fans can't accept that both are exceptional players. The discipline and sheer work CR7 puts in is crazy, and the genius of Messi shows every other match.
