10-15 bucks for a key you got for free, sure, that's reasonable. But why should anyone get it from you and not give the money to the developer if your're just gonna charge the same.

Well they have 3 options:

1. Give everyone a key that ordered before it was taken offline
2. Revoke all the keys that were given out since it went live.
3. Status quo; those that were quick on the draw make out, the rest get their orders cancelled (like me).

Only option 1 makes everyone happy, but business-wise makes no sense.

They're in a difficult position.

I am sure they have hundreds of thousands of orders they have to cancel. (some may have been legit with a video card) it will take some time.

I don't see how they could revoke the keys unless Valve cooperated with them. Since Valve is such a pro consumer company, I could see them telling best buy to suck it up. Who knows.

They can't really take the keys the back after they're used :\ thats like forcing a customer to return their items they fully paid for and used. . . . Right?

Amazon were able to get SimCity keys removed from Origin accounts after they were refunded. I wouldn't be surprised if Best Buy could do the same through steam for this.

There was an issue once with Dirt 3 where a bunch of AMD's promo keys for it were stolen, and I'm pretty sure a bunch of those were revoked; there were warnings on places like SteamGifts about accepting Dirt 3 keys for a while.
