Buchanan's a reprehensible human being, but as a commentator I appreciate that he's pretty direct and unromantic about campaigning and the slicing of demographics. Not that I'd expect anything less (more?) from the guy who proposed to divide the nation in two and take the bigger half.

Bill's a bigger scumbag than Hillary is. He's the one who put her campaign on the racist path it is on now.

Bill was just trying to prevent his hard created African-American coalition from leaving him, and it backfired on him horribly

And techinically Mark Penn started it, not Bill

Keiths comment was awesome. Too bad MSNBC shows dont get good ratings though. :(

MSNBC really deserves to be in first place. Not in 3rd.

He was nearly in tears at the end. Very good commentary, but he left too much room for Hillary to make things right and redeem herself in the context of his comments.

NEVER FORGIVE NEVER FORGET

NEVER FORGIVE NEVER FORGET

That is so not Kennedy like. The current quote is "Forgive your enemies, but never forget their name"

There's no way to defend the Jackson comment. I wanted to see if anyone was going to bring up the various misquotes and distortions, such as the "fairy tale" comment

What would be the point of doing that?

Seriously. Shameless.

Speaking of, shouldn't Triumph be back and PD be gone anyway, since Obama won Texas overall? Or was the bet just about the primary?

The Q&A portion won't be in the mainstream press until tomorrow. Policy speeches generally don't get covered.

I could probably find this by looking back in the thread, but is there a transcript to be found of the Q&A?

And policy speeches can get coverage. Only they get covered as they relate to campaign strategy. If two candidates tangled on Iran for a month, you'd learn a ton about what Mark Penn, David Axelrod, etc. thought the best tack was, but the public wouldn't know a single new fact about Iran.

No, we're talking about the 2005 energy bill, crafted by Dick Cheney, that every environmentalist activist and even the vast majority of editorial boards realized was a big, dirty giveaway to corporate energy interests.

The one that Hillary voted against and Obama voted for.

If that's the one you are talking about then Hilary voted for it in it's original form, but then said she hoped it wouldn't pass.

Obama only voted for that energy bill because there were aspects of it that he liked.

He lost my respect by giving props to American Gangster, then regained it ten fold while discussing hip hop in general without resorting to the typical politician nonsense/feigned concern for the kids bullshit. I'm impressed

american gangster was so-so, but he mos def gained cool points for the interview all together. Now if he were to say that he is a fan of Lupe Fiasco.....well then, that would just make him too cool.

Keith's piece was pretty good. Glad someone is speaking up about the type of tactics that Senator Clinton is using in her campaign. And I didn't realize all those Admirals and Generals actually endorsed Obama today. Great news.

Amen. The Cool is great; my fav hip hop album of 2007, although The Big Doe Rehab gets props too.

American Gangster is meh imo. Jay-Z should just retire if he can't put any energy into the mic anymore

Lets just say I'm glad it came from a white guy :lol

Next thing you know everyone would be saying "Oh it's cause he's black he's against Hilary!"

Jokes aside it really needed to be said and it needed to be said as definitively as it was said. I thought I was overreacting when I thought Hilary didn't properly handle that ferraro situation, but it seems I'm not the only person outraged by how she has handled it.

The ratings system is not truly accurate. It's pretty weak in reality. 9000 households that are willing to write down what they are watching at all times are hardly a true representation of what people watch.

Well there is (at least used to be, I know Nielsen was supposed to revamp the system) a diary entry option as well as an electronic recording option. I do think the nielsen ratings are not as accurate as they could be, however, since the subjects know they are being monitored.

Hopefully soon enough we can start getting more accurate ratings by using digital cable boxes...

If I'm not mistaken:
The Nielsen company tracks what a select group of people, about 9000 households, watch. They are determined by their address, then their demographics, then a representative from Nielsen meets with the household. 7 times a year they hold what are called sweeps. Sweeps weeks require people to track by hand what they watch. These weeks determine how advertisers pay for time until the next sweeps. This week is a sweeps week.

Friend of mine had this to say re: Keith Olbermann's rant:

this is total bullsht that this guy did this
it's so fucked up that he's scolding her
it's her campaign to fuck up if she wishes

Same woman that basically rails me everyday with "People don't want to see a woman president" and "Obama is getting a pass because he's black."

Yep.

Keith SLAYED Hillary...my Goodness I wish that there was a way to show this video to every American..she would be forced to end her campaign if this video reached the eyes of enough people.

It's clear to me at this point that Billary is not going to be able to regain the support they've lost amongst AA's, and therefore, cannot win the presidency. I am so angry that she has just thrown us under the bus in an attempt to fuel her own power and legacy....everything about her campaign has, in some way, been about race. The "He's not qualified" shit has ALWAYS reaked of the same "I hate PC. I didn't own slaves. Why can't blacks do anything for themselves" attidude that I usually hear coming from right leaning politicians. The entire time, she has been trying to draw upon white anger towards percieved injustices that stem from Affirmative Action and quota systems. Ferracist has simply been the most blunt about it. Her, her campaign, and her supporters can spin it any way she fucking likes, when I hear things like "He's not even qualified" and "He's just here because he's black"...I get the same sick feeling in my stomach that I do when I hear whites questioning black college students or black employeees...she fucking disgust me....and this doesn't even get into the fact that she tried to throw the whole situation on him. I can only imagine what her and her advisors were talking about in a hotel room somewhere : "Hey, lets make Obama look like some angry, aggressive, politically correct black man, this is a hot botton issue for whites, and we can use it to gain support. Lets just say something racist and deny that we were being racist afterwords, this will definitely click with white voters, blacks and their perspective on race be damned"....I don't care how big of an assumption this is, I truly believe that this whole thing was manufactured for a specific reason.

I don't want anyone to censor themselves, and I'm not pretending that race and sex don't play a huge role in the election process, however, I find it absolutely reprehensible that she would "go there" with this campaign. I'm not one of the idealist, I understand that the left is just as capable of it's racist, sexist, and homophobic shit as anyone else, but this Ferracist shit has really caught me off guard. And the fact that this shit isn't recent at all by her makes it even worse! I mean, at first, I just thought this was a case of a supporter simply being a little nutty about the fact that his or her candidate was going to lose.....but having said the same exact shit about Jesse Jackson just 20 years ago shows what her mentality on race really is.

Dems better fucking be careful, careful as HELL in these upcoming months, do not think for a second that you are not dealing with the same people who just 40 years ago, had very successful pockets of our own political party in parts of the country.

Just to add to this, I'm really not that satisfied until some of these John Edwards, Howard Deans, Al Gores, Nancy Pelosi types come out and denounce her bullshit as well! I'm not holding my breath, but I'll be damned if it wouldn't be a justified response from them. These are bigwigs in the party....do they not see their most loyal block just being tossed under a greyhound by the Hillary campaign?

This whole thing reminds me of what I've read on the Sistah Soulja incident in the early nineties....

WOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FUCK!!!! (Sorry for cursing but) WOW!!! NEVER in my life would I think that a possible president could have such a insightful and understanding real conversation about hiphop.

I MEAN WOW!!

I can't be the only person who doesn't like Olberman's Special Comments, right? Ending each one with "Good night and Good luck" is a bit pretentious, too.

Tonight was no different.

I like it better when he just sticks to the cold and hard news.

You aren't the only one.

Righteous outrage in a prepared speech rubs me the wrong way.

I know I shouldn't quibble about the tone of generally liberal critiques when the subjects of those critiques are a lot worse (ie "Paul Krugman is shrill!"), but I think I've bitched about the Bush admin enough to be credible.

You didn't like the one he did about Habeous Corpous?

This game of "an adviser says something politically incorrect and then resigns" is really retarded. Can't we get back to the issues? I really couldn't care less what the 1984 vice presidential nominee said about Barack Obama. Nor do I care what some adviser to Obama said about Hillary in an interview to a Scottish newspaper. Nobody really cares about this stupid stuff either. The opposing campaigns (and their supporters) just make a big deal about it to "get" the other candidate. The media loves this stuff too because covering politics based on the issues is unfortunately rather boring. Name calling and soap-opera type drama is much more exciting.

Not at all. I was in a Neilsen family once. They had electronics that monitored what we watched.

We lied to them and created a fictious roommate we named Vic Waxx. He was a skull candle we found in the basement. His birth date was June 6, 1966. He tended to watch lots of softcore porn. :lol

I'm pretty indifferent to them. On one hand, the prepared speeches allow him to better articulate the issues and connect a few more dots than a spontaneous speech may, while on the other hand...yeah, it comes off a bit hokey after the first few times. Since what he says generally needs to be said and it's generally over some matters of substance, I can't complain.

I mean, at least he's not Dan Abrams. Ugh.

But see that's where you're wrong. What Gerry said about Obama is WAAAAAY worse than what Powers said about Hilary.

And it shows again how us black people (even after working just as hard if not harder in some situations) still can't get our due because we only got their because of the color of our skin.

It's stupid and incorrect. Obama (just look at his name) had to overcome so much just to get to this position. And to tear down all the hard work him, his campagin, and volunteers like Amir0x have put in to get Obama where he is now is just dumb.

And to put a racial spin to in makes the comment racist. So, yeah these comments that Gerry is making need to be talked about and put down in public. The American people need to realize it's not 1970 anymore. Times are changing and this type of attitude and talk is not allowed.

We are better than this.
