Nintendo Downloads - November 2011

It's the one that adds in support for DLC, game demos, and eShop improvements, one of which is being able to download your purchases while in sleep mode.

Another eShop change we know about is going to be support for QR codes that instantly take you to the page for a particular game. So people can put up eShop links, effectively, for their titles online.

It will also add ability to share written, vocal messages and 3D pictures (cool!), as well as a 3D video recording capability.
And don't forget it will include a StreetPass Mii Plaza update, that will add a second quest in Find Mii and several new puzzles in Puzzle Swap.

This update sounds amazing. I really hope it has everything that I've heard so far in this thread, and that it actually comes out on Wednesday...

Wait, what? As far as I know, those features will be part of the free Swapnote app that will be downloadable in December, not part of the system update at the end of November. Unless I missed something...

No, you're correct. The messaging stuff is with Swapnote, a free download in December.

Hey guys, with the upcoming update and the 3D recording feature, do you think it would be possible to watch videos converted to the same format as the recorded ones? That would be pretty cool.

I hope so, I'd love to watch some 3D avatar, no matter the screen size.

Ok, someone spoil me. How the hell do I solve the last puzzle in Escape Trick: Convenient Store. The one with the pins.

I can't spoil you, but we can talk it out!
The monitors say

S W

N E

North faces to the left on the pin compass. The arrows go down, right, up.

How about:
S -> N -> E -> W?

I think the mapping of the zodiac in the magazine is straightforward.
Haven't tried this out yet, though.

Mockingbird helped me out with two places I was stuck. Towards the end of the game, it randomly wants you to examine items in your inventory in front of where you need to use them instead of, you know, "use item."

For the mirror,
look at the gum
.

For the ketchup bottle,
tap the ketchup at the bottom of the bottle, maybe in the place where you need it
.

I got the final puzzle in Convenience Store. It was a decent puzzle, unlike most of the ones I got stuck on.
The arrow in the magazine has nothing to do with the arrow on the pegboard.

The ending is hilariously stupid. I think they were aiming for something like Feel the Magic XX/XY and ended up with a Seinfeld episode.

It wasn't a good game, exactly, but with Cing gone it's not as if there's much competition.

November 38th.

Well, if there were a Nov. 38th, that sure would be something. If you're referring to the date listed at the top of the page -- Nov. 28 -- that's the date the press blurb was posted. Feel free to read the actual press statement.

Goddammit Nintendo, even when you have vague release windows, you still end up delaying it.

Oh well, I can wait that long. At least we now have an actual date.

Actually it was a joke about the update coming by the end of November.

I wonder when we're getting 10 free gba games? I should buy metroid 2 return of samus, but not sure. I played a lot of metroid games except pinball and metroid on nes. But I don't think it matters if I play the metroid on nes because I play zero mission which is the same thing but add a new feature in the game.

We have no idea what video format Nintendo is gonna use. If it's a standard (like 3GP), it should be possible.

However, there's the odd chance they might be using some strange licensed format. I think it's unlikely, since there aren't that many video formats out there which can be encoded in realtime by a ~266MHz ARM CPU.

Oh sorry. I was paying attention yesterday and hadn't seen it.

I meant "bad" cuz I thought we were all expecting it by the end of the month.

Sorry for being slow and old GAF peeps, I should know better.

Will QA for food.
Metroid II on the eShop had me break out the SP and give it a whirl.

The 'Super Game Boy' palettes they added to a number of Game Boy games really bring new life into the titles. It's a shame it's not a feature on eShop games. :/

It seems odd they go out of thier way to emulate bad things like ghosting (or a toned down version anyway) yet these good parts are not a prioity.

I'd use the word assigned though since all it [the BIOS] is doing is: game ID #blah use palette #blah (and if on Super Game Boy border #blah). But the palettes might have been designed around those games to start with...

I'm not sure if the GBC BIOS has more games than the Super Game Boy did (or more palettes or how similar they are). Otherwise, you can access the palettes by holding the D-pad+buttons on the Nintendo logo boot.

Oh my god. I mean Oh My God.

So I loved Donkey Kong '94 when I was a kid, and I downloaded it recently to relive my nostalgia. Then I suddenly realised, it's still a bloody damn fine game today and more than holds its own against modern gaming.

Seriously. The controls are perfect. The level designs are ingenious. Every few levels a fresh new idea comes along and shifts everything around. The graphics are crisp and clear and cute, especially the little animations Mario and Donkey Kong have. The music is hip and jazzy. But the best thing is, the game really suits handheld pick-up-and-play gameplay habits. The levels are just small enough to play at any time, but they prove to be just enough of a headscratcher that you get a smug sense of accomplishment when you clear a stage. And to top it off, the game is absolutely packed with stages.

I'm sorry for gushing, I'm just really glad that I've had something to really drag me away from pretty little wallpapers that pass for games on the iPhone (I'm looking at you, Tiny Tower!) If you haven't got the game yet, I seriously suggest picking it up. It's well worth the piddly couple of quid it costs. Definitely one of the Game Boy's finest games ever. The only downside is that you can't play it with the Super Game Boy borders and colours, but that is just a superficial thing obviously - the game suffers nil from its absence.

Agree. I had a really fun time with DK. It was my first time with the game -- never owned an original Gameboy. It holds up surprisingly well.

Such an amazing game. One of the very best I've played this year.
