Wait ps2 shipped 50m until 2002?

Actually he was right. It is now the next decade. Amir0x is a prophet!
Yeah, I think SonyGAF is more like very small portion of GAF, just like XboxGAF, you know those hardheaded fanboys who struggle to hide their obvious bias. It's just that PS4 is preferred console this gen, so obviously that "SonyGAF" is bigger and thus louder. There is always portion of people who need to validate their purchase by means of consolewarz, like we saw in that horrible thread with doom and gloom for PS4.
Yet it doesn't hinder people to go "lol sonygaf" when we'd basically given up on them as a community. Sure, most of us weren't so drastic but to claim that the board is Sony biased is a bit over the top. We tend to like the most popular platform every generation.
Ahh. Nice try. I'm not falling for it though. You must be living in New Zealand right?

I didn't know that was him as well, but yeah sounds more emotional than anything. Sometimes GAF gets the best of ya if you come here too much.lol ok i take some of that back
i think his post and the "square just shot themselves in the foot" meltdown have to be 1 and 2 for most notorious posts on these boards, considering how they're brought up every once in a while.
Wait ps2 shipped 50m until 2002?
And 100 million shipped by the end of 2005
"In 2005, the PlayStation 2 became the fastest game console to reach 100 million units shipped, accomplishing the feat within 5 years and 9 months from its launch."
PS2 was a Beast!
Wait wait wait...PS4 sold more in 2015 than Xbox One LTD? What the fuck? Jesus I didn't know it was that bad. I mean I knew it was bad but...damn.
Like...when put into context like that...my mind is blown a bit.

Let's see if Ps4 can keep up with that beast!
Media Molecule's making a full set of levels for Dreams (and effectively a large library of high quality pre-made assets to remix), just as they did for LittleBigPlanet and community test levels may be available when the game launches too.
And bad online.
My point flew right over your hear, did it?Great nothing more interesting than talking about which fanboy group is louder.
That whole period, leading up to the PS4 was probably the most fun time I can remember gaming wise. So many good gifs, jokes amd just a lot of good spirit and fun. Was the best gaf has been too in my mind.
Great news for Sony. Its completely healthy for the industry to have this type of domination struggle generation to generation. Forces the other manufacturers to up their game and push themselves or to GTFO.
I'm still amazed how MS dropped the ball on start of this gen. How on earth they were able to make so much weaker console and were almost taken by surprise how ready Sony was with PS4. Relative success of Kinect and aim to be more than just gaming console really blinded them. I would have loved to be fly on the wall when they planned vision for Xbox One. There must have been lots of "fighting" over how important actual gaming is for this new console. Must be bittersweet victory for those who wanted powerful gaming console first and media player second.Yep and I hope Xbox has learned something from these numbers and we get a better version next gen. Same goes for Nintendo NX. Competition prevents 599.99/Giant enemy crab/get a 2nd job kind of arrogance.
Because you're prescribing to the childish and laughably naive notion that every single one of those 20 million (when it's in fact 17-18 but let's run with it) are going to translate into game sales.
To put it in words, here's what you're saying:
Heimbeck: Kingdom Hearts 2.8HD shouldn't have skipped Xbone because there are 20 milion owners and every single one of them would've bought it! 20 million is a huge number! I can't believe Square-Enix would throw away 20 million units of sale!
When the reality is, the audience for those type of games aren't substantial. It doesn't matter if the Xbone sells 30 million units, the number of people who'd buy those games won't even reach 500k.
But I'm done with this silly argument. You go ahead and believe what you will.

"Ahh, Tub, or some say Bathtub..."
"No one can catch us! No one can stop us now!"
"The gddr5 of course!"
Lol sorry i had to

Fully justified sales for PS4, cheers.
I feel the same way. It was PR gaf after PR gaf. Its a shame because I was fully prepared to jump ship if they released a superior product. I was one of the idiots who ran out and bought a 599.99 PS3 and was disappointed with it for the first 4 years of its life-I was pretty burned by Sony last gen and didn't want to make the same mistake twice.
Color me surprised Sony was the one to get it right. Its amazing how both consoles have flip flopped positions. The third console curse is real.

Then Cerny happened!

I wonder if it'll reach 100 million until 2018.
They were at 30 million in November.Wait, when did that happen? Last time I checked it was 20 million.
Those new numbers are huge!

That Amirox post isn't that wrong. The age of that Sony is done, and won't come back. Amirox was.just overly hyperbolic and and dramatic about it. Sony dominated so strongly and were such a force in the industry that PS2 got all the games, it had all the focus and a lot of the games were exclusive by default. Sony had everything.still revelant these days

Sure they are dominating now, but not like they did then. The age of Sony is done. You could call it.a new Sony age or more accurately the Age of the Multiplatform. The PC marketplace has evolved and become not only a force that cannot be ignored.innthe demographic of Sony's key genres, but also leads the way in other ways to play and genres that just don't owrk as well on consoles. Mobile has taken the eye of a large majority of the casual audience who would have bought random games and publishers and developers have their resources diverted to that market segment, resources that would have typically went to PS2 wnd maybe other consoles. Even with the console space things aren't the same. Bar certain exclusives that are there by default (Japanese games due to audience mismatch and indue games due to clauses), all game are multiplatform by and large. You don't need a PS4 the same way you needed a PS2.
Sony well and truly dominate at the moment, but nothing like they used to. The age of the PS1-2 Sony is done and gone forever.
Nice narrative, sadly doesn't work because at the time of the PS1 and PS2 were there also handhelds like the GameBoy, GameBoy Advance and NDS.
Very little chance of 3:1. It would take a massive chain reaction of de facto exclusives or an early exit for that to happen.
Handhelds also exist now, and I'd argue that despite selling less nowadays, no handheld back then dominated a key market like Japan the way DS, PSP and then 3DS have done recently. Sure they get a lot of games and were incredibly succesful, but consoles still garnered a lot of the attention in a way that they just don't do anymore in Japan.Nice narrative, sadly doesn't work because at the time of the PS1 and PS2 were there also handhelds like the GameBoy, GameBoy Advance and NDS (and in many places a very strong PC scene like in Europe). But I guess that doesn't count unlike mobile and Steam.
I'm not saying that PC isn't technology leading anymore. I'm saying it's less tech orientated, as in there's a lower barrier of entry now for people who don't understand technology as well because Steam and other things have simplified the entire process. Less capable people people can now play on PC's where they may have found it a bit too complicated earlier.36million sold units today aren't less relevant than 36million units in the 90's or 00's.
The premise of that line of thinking is just crazy. And you can even argue that PC gaming is still far away of being that technolgy leading paltform like it was in the 90's with games pushing the limits.
I wonder why no one likes doing graphs anymore. I don't keep a record myself so I made a small amendment to Zhuge's shipments graph, so do note it's not a good comparison since it's only sell-in.
New data point for PS4 is sell through at 36.9 million
New data point for XB1 is minimum shipment of 17.7 million.
By that criteria you should not include Splatoon on the list either.
