Did they expand Medicaid in Florida? I thought they opted not to.

We didn't take the expansion. It means there's approx. 800K Floridians who were left to fend for themselves. The estimates are that more than 4mil Floridians will lose coverage under this monstrosity.

I kindly encourage all Republicans to self-copulate, laterally, utilizing an oxidized farm implement.

So the state waivers may not pass the Byrd rule? Amazing.

Guess it's getting killed then, brilliant move McMaster.
The Iran nuclear deal framework also involved the United Kingdom, Russia, France, China, Germany, and the European Union. The United States didn't create it unilaterally, and can't kill it unilaterally.

NBC reported yesterday Trump is leaning towards decertifying Iran's compliance with the deal but will leave the decision to pull out to Congress. Which would totally be a Trump move.

so they do know nationwide health insurance would mean 49 states would lose all their health insurance jobs as they consolidate into the state with the best deal for them right

From Axios:

The Watergate resonance of the Bob Mueller probe rose this week with a CNN report that the special counsel has details of wiretaps of "former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election."

Now we can tell you about another potential honey pot for Mueller. Former colleagues of Sean Spicer tell Axios that he filled "notebook after notebook" during meetings at the Republican National Committee, later at the Trump campaign, and then at the White House.

When Spicer worked at the RNC, he was said to have filled black books emblazoned with the party's seal. Spicer was so well-known for his copious notes that underlings joked about him writing a tell-all.

One source familiar with the matter said that the records were just to help him do his job.

"Sean documented everything," the source said.

That surprised some officials of previous White Houses, who said that because of past investigations, they intentionally took as few notes as possible when they worked in the West Wing.

When we texted Spicer for comment on his note-taking practices, he replied: "Mike, please stop texting/emailing me unsolicited anymore."

When I replied with a "?" (I have known Spicer and his wife for more than a dozen years), he answered: "Not sure what that means. From a legal standpoint I want to be clear: Do not email or text me again. Should you do again I will report to the appropriate authorities."

The WashPost reported Sept. 8 that Mueller "has alerted the White House that his team will probably seek to interview" Spicer and five other top current and former Trump advisers.

One White House official told me: "People are going to wish they'd been nicer to Sean. ... He was in a lot of meetings."

About an hour after Spicer's texts, he replied to a polite email I had sent earlier, seeking comment:

Per my text:

Please refrain from sending me unsolicited texts and emails

Should you not do so I will contact the appropriate legal authorities to address your harassment

Thanks

Sean M Spicer

Yes, but they can still put damaging sanctions on them unilaterally - though Boeing might be none too happy about that, so let's hope industry lobbyists can do something good for once.

This would be amazing to see. The man won't take responsibility for anything.

This is not someone to let back into your good graces, media/Hollywood/Harvard.

Apparently it's spicer news week. wtf. The only news I want to hear about involving spicer is him being outcasted from society or him giving up major info about obstruction of justice.

So it seems that Trump's approval goes up when he doesn't do anything, which is sort of fascinating. The more he stays out of the news, the better he does.

I wonder what happens when 2018 starts in earnest.

I was saying this during the election! Any time he got coverage (even his own RNC), his numbers went down. Any time attention was elsewhere they went up.

People apparently like the idea of Trump--a rich, white business guy in politics--in the abstract. What they don't like is the reality of Trump. It's shocking, ok it's not shocking, but it seems that even now people aren't realizing exactly who he is. Dude gets more chances to fix his shit than anyone I've ever seen, people are constantly lowering the bar for him just so he can have some success.

random crazy thought.

what if SPicer is doing the emmys and popular shows to show his health and mindset.

maybe hes worried about russia and trump trying to have him disappear

I also think people lower the bar for Trump because This Isn't Normal and people are seeking to find normalcy in a situation that is objectively bizarre.

That and he's a rich white guy. The richer and whiter you are, the more chances you get. It's just how America works.

I doubt it. He probably just wants some time in the sun. Unless he's flipped and turned Mueller's evidence he's got nothing to fear.

Obama is the only president that wasn't a rich white guy, but those other presidents were given the same chances Trump is given.

The richer you are the more chances you get and Trump is pretty damn rich. We subconsciously conflate wealth with intelligence in the US, so people assume he can't really be this stupid and it must be part of a plan.

Trump not being a politician has given him maximum leeway to get away with nearly anything. W Bush was rich too, but if he was caught on tape talking about grabbing pussies in October 2000 he would have lost. Same with every other rich presidential candidate/politician who has run. For whatever reason, people respond to Trump's fuck ups by basically saying "well he's not a politician, so what do you expect." It's an incredibly low and apparently impervious bar.

He has a base that simply doesn't give a shit. I thought Obama had a pretty solid/semi impervious base of support. I remember an official saying "as long as he doesn't cheat on Michelle, he can get away with nearly anything." Well Trump cheats, sexually assaults, curses, doesn't prepare, etc etc etc....and gets away with it all. It's amazing, and stunning.

I don't think his wealth or (insofar as this can ever been untangled from anything sociological in the US) his race has anything to do with it, more that 40-45% of the country would approve of generic R in the abstract, so when an R president does nothing, that's whereabouts their approval will gravitate. Do good things and you get above 45, do bad things and you go below 40, but do nothing and you'll end up there.

Saw a news story on my local news' Facebook page about two SC Senators proposing a monument for a black union soldier.

The responses were about what you would expect.

Nah the best thing about ideology is you don't have to think through anything

I sometimes wonder why his base still supports him. I guess it has to do with them thinking there's some grand plan and hoping he does something for them.

Evangelicals support pretty much anyone that would help advance their agenda. I guess it is the same for Trump's base.

Because if Trump is wrong or Trump is bad, then that means his base made a mistake in thinking he was their guy and made a mistake in voting for him. Since they couldn't have made a mistake, Trump must be right and great and anyone who says otherwise is the one making a mistake.

I don't think his supporters think he is bad. I think they actually believe they made the right decision, regardless if he is unpopular. Of course some have that fallacy you explained. I try to think it has something to do with the fact that for the past 8 years people that think similar Trump have been 'shunned' and their opinions publicly has been put down know they have someone that can potentially enact their beliefs.

Even if he is a fuck up more than half the time they will continue to support him because he is the face of a movement that they want, even if he is still failing that too. We see after DACA.

Prepare to see right wing media to run with China's announcement that all of its banks should stop working with North Korea for weeks and weeks as a major win.

I think it might be? I dunno. Wonder what he had to give away to make it happen.

Question about the Byrd rule. It's a hard and fast law that the GOP must adhere to correct?

Because the Byrd rule didn't seem to stop them from bringing the vote to the floor when McCain shut it down.

CNN's Kfile dug out an old quote from Roy Moore saying homosexuality should be illegal, and now Moore is refusing to comment on it. What a twist!

No it's a parimentrian rule that is self-made by the Senate. They have ways around it.

But ironically that also requires a vote. So it's really all the settings problem. Do they have the votes.

The Byrd rule still stripped things from the bill last time. You can still vote on it, but at the discretion of the Parliamentarian.

They could just change the rules but they seem unwilling to do so at the moment.

i thought they could just overrule the parliamentarian, or at least, replace her? i guess that would add to the time it takes?

As of now, they do not have 50 votes to do this iirc. That could change but it didn't happen last time.
