Which parent in their wildest dreams would believe their sullen but possibly well behaved child, who grew up happily before puberty, would do such a thing? Most just hope for the best. Perhaps they did seek help - we don't know.
(edit) Seems the family were aware something was wrong. If he was getting into guns they should have told someone.
That's why I think it's dangerous to just disregard people like this as being "mentally ill." That puts a black and white image to a grey world. I'm sure there are a LOT of people like this who are one step away from doing something terrible, yet also that close to returning to normality if someone would reach out to them.

Sad his life turned out the way it did, but it probably won't encourage any reforms as per usual. 6 students dead, 7 including him - let's see if that can get enough people to care.

This is insane, it's like some shallow 4chan meme character in real life, but gone off the rails. All the fedora/nice guy/women as objects/racist/doyouevenlift/tiny dick stuff, he was like a twisted physical manifestation of all kinds of different psychotic elements. He comes across as a textbook troll in those bodybuilding threads but it's all real. I honestly won't be able to look at these kind of internet characters the same way anymore.
He was probably severely introverted and didn't have a lot of friends. It's easy to blame the world when you don't have a strong support network. Seems as if there was noone to tell him differently when he was down on himself. Of course I'm sure his posting online didn't help (especially on the BB forums who are filled with alpha-males).

It's kind of amazing that the BB forum had him solved to a T with the Bateman comparisons, yet his parents weren't getting him the help he sorely needed. Tragic.
Don't understand what you're saying with the bolded. If someone is one step away from killing other human beings with firearms for any reason, that's mental illness. It is not normal to feel that way constantly, it is not normal for people to despise random human beings so much they feel the need to kill them.
Mental illness is underdiagnosed, people don't want to admit they're having difficulty with handling life because of the stigma regarding mental illness. No one is being disregarded, its about accepting the fact that people are born with different brain and personality features.

If they keep the videos on youtube I know people will say things like: "that's what he wanted!" and other stuff. But you can't deny that it allows other people to look inside the mind of a sick individual and they might even recognize some people in it (without falsely accusing people of course).

That's a huge grey area tbh. But I must admit, watching the videos is fascinating.
He complains about not being invited to parties. One of his videos is him filming a party, even seems to be among friends going by the reaction of one of the guys. That was 3 years ago though, wonder what triggered his descent into madness.
Edit: Thinking about it, I guess he got rejected/friendzoned and didn't take it too well.

Guy def needed help. I am 25 years old and still a virgin, and I am not going around claiming that all women are evil, or threatening people because of my own problems. This guys seems to think that he doesn't have to put any effort in trying to find somebody and expects for the other person to do all the work because he has nice things to give them. I guess his high school friends moved on, perhaps with girls, perhaps to other universities, and his social group reduced to zero.
