If you're looking for accuracy, IW and FDO are definitely where it's at for assault rifles. I look at both of them as complementary weapons rather than primary weapons though... they can't hang with the SMGs in close-quarters like the ATAC and FAMAS can.

I'm sticking with the IAR now for Spec Ops, well rounded stats and the top-tier version looks great. I was working with the SCAR Heavy due to loving 7.62 weapons and the high damange but seeing the Mod 5 version was basically a Marksman rifle turned me off. For the Insurgents, I'm doing the M4 as with the IAR it seems well rounded.

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting the high rate of fire SMGs, the ATAC and FAMAS, the IW and FDO and the high damage sniper rifles fully modded. I don't care for the other weapons. If I'm going to be getting close and personal I'll go with an SMG and the ATAC or FAMAS, but when I feel like staying back I'll go for the more accurate weapons, or whatever combination feels best.

Smoke grenades are awesome, by the way.

So, when can we get access to the "Pro" thing, thinking SCRUM especially. Snipers are ruining this game with every shot and the constant strafe-until-one-of-you-die shit is getting on my royal tits, was thinking SCRUM would solve all my headaches but says I don't have access to the contents ...

Yep, but it has the silencer so it's great in standard where no one communicates. eg. Sacrifice usually has that upper ledge are in the enemy base where you can camp and pick off people from their own side.

It's up in NA where they actually handed out codes for it. I can select it and I don't get an error code, but it looks like all the Custom (i.e. SOCOM Pro) playlist are dead because it shows me by myself on the waiting for more players screen.

Check your Services List and see if the service is activated on your account (log in on your PS3 -> Account Management -> Transaction Management -> Services List -> SOCOM 4). If you don't see SOCOM 4 listed, it could be that the plan for Euro copies was for people to download some free item off the store to activate the service on their accounts. If that's the case, you'll have to wait till the Store comes back on Tuesday/Wednesday.

I don't recall the difficult parts or the names of the levels, but make sure you're spamming the clip toss to distract the enemies. Keep throwing them until you find the distance that distracts them farthest away from where you're at.

I almost always try to run up there, but once there I can make do with a silenced SMG and an accurate AR. Once I've killed a few I jump back down through the holes in the roof and take a few unsuspecting guys out down there, then run up again. There's almost always that one guy who will make it his goal to kill you if you stay in one place.

SOCOM 4 is an online game people from all over the world can enjoy. And people from all over the world happen to speak different languages (go figure!).

If you enter a public match in which a few people coordinate in languages other than English don't deride them and/or bitch about it.

Either accept it, mute those responsible for the "offending" chatter or get the fuck off.

Also, learn the difference between Italian, French and Spanish. You keep mixing them up!

Hehe, I remember the KZ2 game we played before its official launch where you and your italian friends started talking in Italian and just kept at it throughout. I went silent cuz I had no idea what was being said, except that I knew when the pitches of your voice rose that some crazy shit must be going down with you guys. :lol

Damn it, I have after work drinks planned, now I need to leave early to take advantage of the extra xp.

Does the bonus xp also apply to the guns level or just the player level?

They said it should go towards weapon progression too but they're figuring out the math right now. It appears to double everything according to them.

So the update is that they're disabling it for the moment as it's not working with 1.02 correctly. 1.03 will allow us to run these events, and the networking guys figured it would work with 1.02, but that wasn't the case.

I need a drink.

Okay, first time SOCOM player here. I got in a few rounds of classic.. This basically feels like the console (and third person) version of NeoTokyo. I like how the low health and no respawn makes everybody act properly tactical. Even getting just one kill per round feels satisfying.

Not impossible for me to get into this if I had the time.

Really liking this game online, all the maps are great.. Isn't even one I don't like which is unusual. Hoping for some news from zipper soon on updates, etc

I had to shelf the game until I get access to SCRUM. It's way too easy to snipe in this game and everyone and their dog is doing it, game is ruined for anyone who enjoys using rifles or SMGs to be honest.

Definitely not liking the sound of Zipper falling apart like that, guessing the focus on patching up Socom 4 to its predecessors' glory will be a long, tough road.

Ok, now that we can play online again. That damn score the top middle of the screen has to go. I was following someone through my scope as he went up a cliff, I was so proud of myself for getting the upperhand. And then where i predict the opponent is going to appear, is blocked by the (spec ops 145 insurgents 99) image that blocks out a hefty chunk off the screen.

It needs to be see through, made smaller and out of the way, removed completely or made optional.

yeah, i also find when going round corners in certain ways a good portion of the screen is blocked by your character because you cant switch shoulders

That's all I use, rifle and smg. Having a great time. Just gotta use cover wisely. I like sneaking up around back on all the snipers and giving them what the deserve.
 
Haven't noticed any sniper problems on any of the maps really, the guns seem all pretty balanced and I mainly use AR's and machine guns.

Pffft, that's nothing. Sometimes when playing with friends I'll speak in Spanish, and once I was told by a kid over xbox live that I was an arab terrorist. True story.

Really? I think I've been killed by sniper rifles the least. The weapons are pretty balanced so far, and snipers don't have nearly as much control as they've had in previous games in the series. The (slower) speed of the bullets + how fast movement/run speed is makes it more difficult to post up and completely control a section of the map.

Same. Getting killed by snipers has been few and far between so far. One thing I need to stop doing is respawning on the front lines while some asshats are nade spamming us and I just want to pick one off!! My K/D ratio has taken a huge hit because of this :p

Classic or respawn? I haven't really noticed it in respawn. Locking down segments of the map usually requires something with a faster rate of fire and small casualties get maee up quickly after that.
 
Just played the game for the first time with 3 friends and did some Co-op missions on hard.
Very awesome, thats just what i expected from the game, never having played a SOCOM title before.

I've been using the FDO, really like the long range accuracy with it. Can't wait to get it fully modded :D
 
It's so lame; I found my self saying "boy I wish you got stuff at each level for some insentive like in...Call of Duty" : ( Still, It's a LONG hard grind to the top. I wish they could spice it up.

Wow I just realized the power of light machine guns. These guys are monsters for locking down territory and killing bombtechs so as long as ur prone and have ur flanks covered. This realization might seem like a captain obvious derp moment, but usually games are horrible at balancing LMGs to fit this role.

Wait, double XP? I've still been getting 5 or 15 a kill like always.
Also, I know the levels don't matter, that's why I wish they did :3

Anyone using the AK102 for Insurgents? I'm really liking the range and accuracy, plus the slow rate of fire kinda keep my heavy trigger finger in check during close combat firefight :)

The community is rough on newbies.. If not, stay in respawn mode and by next patch, yes, it'll be worth it.

A SOCOM newbie trying classic mode for the first time in S4 will probably hate this game.

Been playing online for the first time, Supression MP all day and hot damn is the game a lot of fun.

Still getting used to playing with the Move, but getting gradually decent with it. What's the best settings btw?
I do wish you could change shoulder view though, view getting obscured by your character sucks.

is there anywhere you can see how many people are online in different game types?

it seems like everything other than respawn supression is a ghost town, i can't even get into respawn bomb.
