Captain PSN?

you can't put a price on sparks
Sly Cooper works for a TV show

Ratchet and Clank would probably be better as a movie, but could see it as a TV show.

Jak and Daxter = movie

SMT

this show is not Breaking Bad why is it not Breaking Bad? it should be Breaking Bad dammit Breaking Bad
Pixar's got some competition.

If they let Pixar make them, I'm all for it.

After horrible crappy movies like Brave and Cars 2? No.please no, Pixar is complete shit right now.

Sony have Sony Animation Pictures (Monster House, Arthur Christmas,Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), that will be cheaper for them -Sony has no money-and they are decent too(yeah Smurf sucked balls I know).

Your opinion aside, I'm not certain it's even realistic to hope Pixar would adapt one of Sony's games. Has there been a Pixar film that was adapted from some other medium? Not that I know of.

This is the type of movies that SPA should be making, not some of the crap that they have been signing up to make (Rollecoaster, Mungle Trogg, etc)

But knowing Sony, Pixar, Dreamworks, Fox Animation, Universal Animation will be the ones making it.

No, Sony. Take that budget, and make them into games. Goddammit.

Different companies. I assume Sony Pictures (or whatever other movie company) would pay SCE some money for the rights to make the movie/cartoon/tv series and then that movie company would rake in the profits from said movie/cartoon/tv series.

EDIT: Hmmm actually I'm not sure how it works, since SE lost a lot of money from the FF movie, so I guess SCE would have to fork the development bill and SPE would distribute. But since SPA is in house it would be cheaper I guess?

Not a good idea. I just don't think these games would translate well on the screen. I can't imagine Uncharted being able to separate itself from being called a Raiders of the Arc wannabe on the silver screen.

R&C film has potential, would be cool if pixar could do it though.

An animated Sly Cooper movie could be pretty cool.

Ratchet & Clank already looks good enough to be a Pixar film so that'd be great as long as Insomniac had a hand in it.

Pixar R&C film

Just think.

If they let Pixar make them, I'm all for it.

Guys, Sony has their own animation studio. If they decide to do a fully animated feature, it's highly unlikely they go with Pixar. They're more likely to ramp up their own studio to handle more projects.

Captain PSN?

I completely forgot about that...one of the defining shows of my childhood, and I completely forgot. I need this on DVD or Bluray or just injected straight into my veins, right now!

Forget my previous post. I'm in. Let's do this.

Yeah because that's how games are made. You get money, put it in a machine and boom, videogame.

You realise Sony already spends money on making animated movies, right?

My only question is: WHY?

Why not?

It's about fucking time they did this. R&C, J&D and Sly are quality franchises that could use some more exposure and Sony Pictures Animation don't have a single recognisable franchise, so it seems like an obvious match. But this is Sony, so even with this news, it'll probably never happen.

Doesn't mean a damn thing with Sony. If GOW movie ever comes out it'll be from Universal, not Columbia, Tri Star, Screen Gems, etc

Actually, if it's a CG feature, it really does matter. Completely different landscape, and Sony would be interested to be quite involved there due to their presence both in VFX and animation already.

You would think that would be true with GOW as well, but it's not.
That's a live action project though, not a full CG feature. Different mindset given the production needs. And even if they don't end up getting one of their own movie studios on GOW, they'd still be able to try and get their VFX studio on that project.

I do wonder how many people actually read the OP =/ or simply read the title and post.

All the titles currently have Brad Foxhoven listed as producer, who is CEO & Founder of Blockade Entertainment, who specialise in making films & TV shows based on and using videogames and their assets, and are (highly probably) wrapping up post-production on the Heavenly Sword film from Sony.

No reason to think at this stage that Pixar, Sony Pictures, Dreamworks, Disney, Universal, Fox or anyone else has anything to do with this. But sure, you can dream.
It is a nice dream.

Anyway..

Yes a Modnation film is laughable, given how poorly the game was received.

I would be over the moon if we got a R&C film, it is clearly the most sensible franchise to adapt, just keep Insomniac creatively involved and keep TJ Fixman writing, drafting or co-writing the screenplay.

Also the industry and whoever is involved need to get their act together and finally make the GoW film and make it damn good. It has been in limbo for far too long. Hell make it animated and get the studio that did GOW2's cinematic's to do it. The first game is already set out as a film, it ain't that hard to adapt.

It seems they finally get it. I hope they give it enough budget.

A LBP/sly cooper/R&C cartoon could be huge in terms of building the brand.

I don't have much interest in the Jak universe (loves the games anyway) but Ratchet games have super entertaining cutscenes, Captain Quark is just flat out fucking funny, and Sly has an awesome premise and style. Might be cool.

Yep, but Columbia is hard at work to get the lincense back.

Source?

You would think a (good) GOW movie would use a lot of special effects so you would think they would be interested based on that alone. But hell, even this HS movie is not being made by Sony. I have no faith in them doing it.

Well...that kind of sucks

Would be a total waste; just focus on games with these characters.
I dunno how it would be a total waste. A good R&C film would go down a storm, with the right budget, say $2 million (HS films estimated budget) I think they would make a good profit charging $5 for it.

I think a theatrical Ratchet & Clank film budgeted at $60-$90 million could do well at getting people who've never heard about the series in seats. The characters are striking, and their universe is pretty entertaining.

Sony just needs to give Insomniac cash to produce a Ratchet and Clank film. Their cutscenes this generation have been AT LEAST TV Show quality, and easily capable of movies. They should have done it earlier, and tied a few short films in with the games (separate from the stories) just to get audiences sucked in.
