Looks really good. As long as it's faster then we have a winner. I like how they are at least trying and changing things instead of just sitting on the same design.
We already have video previews for a lot of games already - it's usually the launch trailer or similar. These all sound good but the bolded, surely, isn't practical? You do mean like the thumbnails you can set for videos on the XMB, right?
Not going to happen on PS3 ever. What about the things it actually needed?

Load up the store, and the left side of the screen shows you What's New, divided neatly into Games, Movies, and TV. That movies and TV are getting such high billing is itself pretty interesting, I guess, but what's far more pertinent is what happens when you click on a section.
Click on Games - don't worry, no mouse pointer, you're just moving the highlight around - and you get an above-the-line and below-the-line set-up. The above-the-line stuff is all featured content: New, PS Plus, Top Sellers, and that kind of thing. Below the line you get the standard categories: PS3 Games, Demos, Add-Ons, Classics.
Drop into a category like PS3 Games, and you can finally sort and filter properly. Filtering allows you to pick between categories like Game Type, Price, Play Type - i.e. online multiplayer - and Release Dates, and even which accessories it uses. Sorting, meanwhile, allows you to order your results based on the alphabet, what's newest, and that manner of jazz. Within seconds of using the new system, you can find the newest multiplayer-only games released on PS3. You don't have to browse any horrible A-Z category tiles.
Vita and PSP content is included in search but always clearly marked, incidentally, and there are currently no announcements about rolling out the new design to the Vita itself. It's interesting that a redesign comes at this point in the life of the PS3, really. Is it a hint of what we can expect for its replacement? "It's more of a reflection of where we are now and where we want to develop the PS3," says Gordon Thornton, vice president of SNEE (Sony Network Entertainment Europe) Network Operations. "I'd characterise it another way," suggests Elliott Dumville, the game store development manager. "It's an evolutionary process as much as technology is concerned, but part of that evolution is us wanting to understand our fans and our consumers better. What we're trying to deliver on here is an experience that reflects that. That ultimately will be what drives the features you'll see over the coming months as much as anything else."
The PS Store has certainly come a long way:
At this point in the gen.. meh..
That's one ugly redesign. But the screens don't show how a list of games inside a category are displayed now (I'm expecting the worst here).
On the other hand improvements on the download list are very welcome, please add that to the Vita store as well. And the stupid bugs in the EU store should be gone now, so that's a plus, too.
Each of these would be greatly appreciated. I've especially wanted the ability to gift games and a web browser store. What about the things it actually needed?

better to stand still than to move forward right?
You got that sort of grand idea from my one comment? Let me spell it out for you:
JUST SAVE IT FOR THE PS4

This is what interests me the most. If they are updating the PS Store for the PS3, then are we most likely going to get a revised version of this for the PS4? Maybe this is a half-step to test out the waters.

That makes no sense. They can improve it even more when the PS4 hits. You got that sort of grand idea from my one comment? Let me spell it out for you:

One thing that was made clear during the presentation was that this is just the first step in a larger programme of changes. Here Sony wanted to get the core basics to the new design in place, with a whole host of further functionality yet to come over the coming months. Things like adding filters and sorting to the often painfully huge Download List which long term owners still have are on the list of things, much to many peoples delight, Im sure.

Some XBox live games have little video clips along with the screen shots. PSN do the same except actually make it mandatory for the publisher to submit a 30sec - 2minute sample game play video.
In a world where almost every web site can serve up massive amounts videos, you would think an online VIDEO game store would show VIDEOS.
That makes no sense. They can improve it even more when the PS4 hits.
There's a bunch of navigation issues and other stuff that they're fixing with this--and along with the enhanced search, I can't really see this as a wrong move.

Jeez this & the other statements about next generation stuff are became so irrational & stupid, lately. Seems the industry needs stop until the next generation will arrive. We are talking of next generation when the console are here, now we can only play with the current.
Much much better! Hopefully PSVita store changes as well.
Why? Just roll it out now and transfer it over to the PS4 when that comes out. I'd much rather Sony do it now and iron out any bugs before the next console arrives.

Already posted above, sorry - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=43080224&postcount=225
So square is automatically metro now? Sony has rectangles and Microsoft own squares? I can't wait to see the future wars over shape patents. The Shape Wars.
5 years later, you get some new windows and you can search a bit better with the controller. Enjoy.
Might as well stop releasing games on PS3. Save it for PS4.
